I'm giving this a 5 star simply because of the environment and how raw it is. I wouldn't say the professionalism is top tier but hey, growing up in a black house hold... I felt like my uncle was in the kitchen and my cousin (multitasking) made the best smoothies. It's is expensive, but as all healthy (vegan) and good tasting food, of course your going to spend more. The fries were great! Could use less salt/sodium in their batter and seasonings, but otherwise good food! On a more serious note, I support this black own business and glad I found it. If I want to have a good meal and not feel sluggish for the rest of the evening then this is it! I will continue to support them and know that it'll only get better. I have been waiting to come here (I live in the Bay Area)ever since I heard of the opening. I was impressed with the entire inside look of the place. I ordered the loco roll and fries, OMG so delish. I thought it would be spicier, however, it was still a great sandwich hands down. Beautiful space, lovely art that captures Compton of the past and right now. Great vegan option in the city, and there's plenty of variety on the menu. I had the Taquitos and Mac n cheese. Next time I'd get the queso for the Taquitos in the side so it won't get soggy but this was my favorite between the two. The cheese sauce on the Mac was creamy and the seasoning added some spice element. I'd def come back to have the fried oyster mushrooms, I saw another table have it and it looked delicious. When I first walked in I was immediately awestruck. The art all over the walls was beautiful and vibrant just stunning all together. Then when I went up to actually order I was again blown away by the menu options. However, we did finally decide to get the Hood Nachos and the Loco Lobster Roll. We weren't prepared at all for how massive the serving size was. They brought out the food and we both gasped! Being plant based, sometimes you expect normal or smaller dishes, but these were huge. The Hood Nachos had a absolutely delicious spread of refried beans, vegan cheese, tomatoes and jalapeños. All over a bed of colorful tortilla chips. Seasoned to perfection we couldn't stop ourselves from eating this. The Loco Lobster Roll was a beast in itself! At first I tried to lift it all up to my mouth, that was a fail. So we ended up cutting it in half and that worked! The sauce, the sautéed kale and the sun dried tomatoes really brought out an extra boost of flavor to the fried oyster mushrooms. One of the best and biggest bites I've had in a while! We then ordered some peach cobbler for dessert and first bite took me back to Thanksgiving. Been here a few times before the grand opening. My first experience was kind of fun surprisingly! A young man from New Jersey who was working at the time I came in, asked me if I wanted a tour of the spot. The walls are painted with these great murals of current and past black culture from Compton, LA, hip-hop and sports. They have a sneaker store, bakery, herbal & health food store. This place is vegan and they also serve juice options which I love! Definitely something we need in the city of Compton. There is plenty of parking its a nice size parking lot. Went to planet health Compton because I saw it on TikTok. I went in and fell in love with the murals! The artist did a really good job! Ordered my food, got the hood nachos. Went to the other room ( the lounge), but not sure if we were able to sit there so I went back and sat in the front. The cook actually brought the food out to us which was a nice touch! I'd definitely come back again to try the other options on the menu. I would say it's be nice to know if your able to sit anywhere or is the lounge for special events? First off ambiance is 5 STARS!!!! Now on to why 3 stars! The food I had was super salty now I know I'm not big on salt so sometimes things that are salty to me are not salty to other folks but this was just too much. Idk if it was salt or the in house seasonings. I ordered the oyster mushroom poboy and just couldn't get thru it. Owner was very nice and offered several recommendations before I settled on the poboy. I may stop in another time and try something different if I'm in the area again but wouldn't drive over there just for it. Super door shop where you can have a bite to eat like the vegan lobster roll made with oyster mushrooms and a special sauce.. they also have the most delicious juices! I loved the true blue lemonade! Yum!! When the people I was going with said it would be vegan, I was kind of doubtful, but this place was delicious. The tacos we had were freshly made to order, and really great. The "fish" (oyster mushroom) taco was my fave, the batter was super crispy, and it had a great balance of lemon with all the other fresh flavors of the taco. Also AMAZED at the art in this place. The vibe is incredible, and I spent a ton of time just looking around and soaking in the artwork that covers the walls & floors. Such a gem of a spot. Although I live in Houston, I love my hometown, and am always happy to support local businesses. Friday 1/20/2023 5:30pm After just watching Tastemade's recent video highlighting PHC, i knew i had to come support a business that also gives back to my community. Knowing the hype this restaurant would receive i figured it would be easier to order online using Yelp's system.. twenty minutes after confirming my order i enter with only one person in front of me. After they finished ordering i ask for my yelp order that wasnt ready even after ordering, driving twenty minutes, then waiting an extra ten for my actual meal. I ordered their specialty lobster roll with a side of mac and slaw. To drink i ordered a trap juice, all on the Yelp app. After receiving just my meal i ask for my drink. The employee working with glasses and braids tells me "no i didnt see a trap juice on there" and CLAIMS i didnt order it. Excuse me? I remember exactly what i ordered and i ask her kindly to check her ipad again. And she told me again there was no drink.. okay let me pull up my phone for MY OWN RECEIPTS. And then she immediately whips her ipad to my direction and tells me to find the order myself... i point to the trap juice and she immediately apologized. The next thing i see is her asking her coworker to make it and i get an eye roll. Listen, if the trap juice was too difficult to make at this time of day, i would have understood and i would have offered to get a fountain drink or something.. but what happened was i got employees who just didn't want to bother making it. Period. I gave two stars literally just for my meal and drink because this food genuinely slaps. Deducted three for making me wait a total time of one hour all together for my food and a juice, my interaction with the employees and the straight up gas lighting i got on my FIRST TIME visiting a new, local spot. read more
