Normally when you think of a Planet Fitness, you automatically picture their trademark colors purple yellow and black, and you kind of imagine the McDonald's of gym's, where it's first in first out hurry up and get your work done show up pretty much whenever avert your eyes and ever talk to anyone. This location though, this one is different. This one sets the standard for what it should be. I really hope that corporate somehow sees this review. When you walk into this gym, they always greet you with a smile, oftentimes ask you how your day is, what your plans are in the gym today, and if you need any help or suggestions. When I first started coming here it was not like that. It was a couple of teenage girls standing at the counter who couldn't give a hoot if you were alive or not. I'm not sure exactly when the change happened because I was in the hospital for a while, but at some point the staff changed up and now we have some real go-getters, people who encourage you, people that actually care. I'd like to shout out three of them that stand above the rest, no shade to the others, but these three have never missed a chance to say good morning or good evening, and ask me what my plans are in the gym today, one of them even takes polls to get people more involved. Nothing serious just little tack marks on a piece of paper, and yet it makes it feel more like a community. Jeff, Peyton, and Dan are not just employees, they're amazing human beings. Always encouraging, always supportive, they don't just work there they're forming community which is what a gym should be. It's hard enough to motivate oneself to get to the gym and keep a routine, but when you know you have friends there who actually care about your progress, people there you're encouraging and make you feel good about what you're doing, that makes it so much easier to stick to that routine. Dan is also a trainer, but he doesn't charge for kindness and encouragement. Jeff though, he's a whole other type of animal, if you need help he's on it, if you look like you're having a rough day he's there for you, he never lets customers do without, he's always professional and kind. And Peyton, hopefully I didn't get the name wrong, is just like Jeff only younger. There is a gym closer to me, but I choose to go to this one because of that personal touch. I've noticed that the negative reviews on here are either outdated or things that people cannot change about the gym. It's unfortunate that it brings the rating down so heavily. If you're in the area and want a decent gym to get a great work out at, massage tables, tanning booths, or just want to get a couple extra steps in while listening to music in an air conditioned environment, this is the place for you! read more

I'm a member of Planet Fitness and normally go to the Kooser San Jose location which is a very good gym. However, the one in Redding CA was the Best one I've ever been to. Very large space with all kinds of different exercise gear and spaces. I highly recommend this PF location. read more

Very nice facility that had plenty of space and no one doing the 30 minute workout when I arrived on a Friday morning. Locker room was clean and after some curls and bends and lifts, I had a comfortable shower. Plenty of space in the changing area and good hot water. Thanks, PF. My Black Card membership is paying off! [Review 20968 overall - 495 in California - 1953 of 2023.] read more

This specific location is seriously over selling their memberships/capacity, good luck finding space to do anything. I've tried 4-5am, 6-7am, 8-9am, 9-10am and even as late as 7-11pm with the same results...there just is not enough space in this gym for the amount of people. Strange hours even after they were updated. I try to use this location when I'm traveling but it's honestly a nightmare even trying to get anything done in this place. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience at this Planet Fitness location. Cleanliness has consistently been an issue, and the overall environment has not met basic expectations. Additionally, I have encountered rude behavior from staff members, particularly when waiting to use the massage beds. On more than one occasion, my place in line was given away without explanation. I previously submitted an online complaint and was told that a manager would contact me, but no one ever followed up. Communication has been extremely inconsistent. When I called to ask how to cancel my membership, I was told I had to come in person. Later, another staff member informed me that cancellation could be done online, which caused unnecessary confusion. After canceling my membership, I was still charged the annual fee. When I called to address this, I was told that I "should have canceled sooner," despite the misleading and conflicting information I had received from staff. Overall, the lack of cleanliness, poor customer service, and inconsistent communication made this a very frustrating experience. I expected better professionalism and accountability. read more

You cannot go to this gym without earbuds for the love of god turn that horrid music off.

When you enter the gym, Michelle always greets you with a big smile that lights up her whole face. When you leave, she does it again. It puts you in a positive mood which is important for a sucessful workout. read more

Clean gym with all the essentials. And they keep it well maintained. Unfortunately, it's unreliable for early morning goers. About 20 per of us sitting in cars or standing at the door waiting for staff to arrive. it's 25 minutes after opening time. this has happened before. no staff redundancies in place. Looks poor on the otherwise positive Planet brand. read more

Extremely dirty, way too loud, hours are horrible compared to any other planet fitness, employees come and go, have never updated their spa, homeless people in and out, oh and they stole $20 from me and blamed it on my bank! read more

The front desk employe was extremely rude and incompetent and made my 12 year old unwanted and they were just unaware of the demeaning tone of voice. read more

The new hours are just as bad as the layout and lack of equipment. Honestly feel like i was ripped off by the new hours but no lower cost.

At $10 a month Planet Fitness attracts a lot of casual goers. A lot of kids playing on their phones, old people who fall asleep on machines. People who seems to just wander around. In Redding's case the gym attracts a lot of cigarette and weed smokers. Why on God's green earth would you smoke then go to a gym is beyond me. You want to get healthy? Put the Marlboro's down first. The gym suffers from overcrowding, but again at $10 a month it's to be expected. The staff is very friendly, and they maintain a clean interior. If you need a starter gym this is a good choice. Whats up with the broken showers and no hot water for over 2 weeks. This place went from 5 to 3 star review, Imma circle back with an update, hopefully this issue gets resolved. read more

Be aware that the $49 fee is an annual fee in addition to the $10/month. I assumed that the $49 was for an initial sign-up fee. It isn't. It's a reoccurring annual fee. Why don't the just call it a $14 monthly fee? read more

I'd give you minus stars. My family has 2 bc and will be cancelling our memberships with you permanently. your showers are always cold, no one seems to care about anything. your location isnt open 24 hours like other locations are. Im very disgusted with your service skills. and was triple charged for services all month long. Never again. read more

I had gotten a gym membership 8 months ago and had a good experience here. i canceled my membership at the Redding Gym. I have since moved to S. Carolina and 3 months later they are still billing me and told me that I never canceled. No refund, they told me I have to come into the club to cancel. read more

I would give them less than zero if I was able to. The inexpensive membership is not worth it. Especially when you go through the right channels to cancel your membership and they keep talking your money. Although we followed up monthly they refused to compensate any of the $300 they wrongly withdrew. read more

I've been going here for 4 years. The previous management was so good at maintaining this place. The night staff is absolutely terrible. They are always just standing around, everything is always completely filthy, I've never ever seen the night staff clean anything. Management might want to get it together! Hello!? Also, transients just come in and use showers and leave. Doesn't make a local feel very safe when transients are just floating through this place. They aren't here to workout so WHY are we letting people just float through for shower use? The monthly commitments must be getting really low.... This use to be the best gym in town, it's becoming the most disgusting one. And I cannot even begin to talk about the level of creeper harassment that I personally deal with on a daily basis. Probably going to cancel very soon if things don't change. read more

Would be a great place to workout if the people who worked there did their jobs. Recent visit saw the group standing around while patrons blatantly ignored the COVID rules. It was disgusting. New - Be warned. They are limiting capacity and you will probably have to stand in line. Time to find a better gym. read more

The employees are awesome at this Planet Fitness. Thanks Hayden for taking the time to help me get my earbud out of the stairclimber. Highly recommend this place :) read more

I transferred here from the Pittsburg location. This one is bigger. More everything. I think Pittsburg is nice and clean as well as Redding, policy? I wish they were 24/7! This is the one thing I miss about Pittsburg location. I'd feel more comfortable using this one at night. However, I have a full membership so I can visit Pittsburg or any location while travelling. It's a win. Well now that I've been going here a few months, I understand the others reviews. The staff can be pretty busy talking to each other and making you feel like your bothering them. If your like good costumer service and have questions, find a different gym. Pittsburg staff planet Fitness set me up by showing me all the equipment. They even asked if they could be of any help or if I had questions. These children working here are a bit self involved. read more

Super affordable gym with really chill and cool people. I feel so comfortable working out here. I love the hours they operated at. I would highly recommend a membership here. Especially the black card. It's only 12 dollars more but you get WAY more perks. If you use the hydro massage just twice in one month it basically pays for itself. read more

It's a good gym Good staff but lock up your lockers! I've been a member for 2 years never locked my locker and just recently had my wallet stolen out of a backpack that was in an unlocked locker. Wow lots of new new equipment. I feel bad for all the other gyms in town. 10 bucks a month no contract. Nuff said ? This is by far the nicest gym I ever used. Only down side is it not 24 7 days. Oh one more thing, I love all the no judgement advertisements all over the gym yet if u drop a weight, make a loud noise, wear a revealing tank or drink out of a container that's too big they have a name for you........still gets all the stars though. read more

Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Well maintained machines. Always busy but never crowded. I'm grateful and happy this place exists and that it's affordable. I can't even begin to tell you how great it feels to get a good workout in, tan, use the red light therapy bed, go lay down for a hydro massage, then get a chair massage and a nice, warm clean shower. Feels illegal that I can do that every day, all month for the price a a large pizza delivery. Thank you PF for everything!!! read more

Not one single patron other than myself were cleaning the equipment after using it. None of the staff were paying attention or seeming to care. I have just returned from 2 weeks at the Paso Robles gym where everyone was being considerate and cleaning their equipment used right away. Super frustrating, the gym is still closed because of smoke. I understand, we have all been living in this for weeks, but the customer should decide if they want to go or not. There is also no updates on their website, on yelp or they could at least leave a message on their machine so you don't have to drive over to find out. read more

I've been a planet fitness member for months, I work late night shifts so I've been going several times a week at 3 am for several months. Last night, I got off work, drank my pre-workout and drove to the gym only to find out that they changed their hours from 24hrs to 7am-7pm. It's fine if you want to change your hours, but maybe send out a news letter or email to your members so we know. It's not good to drink a pre-workout and not be able to work out, so yeah I was pissed. read more

The gym is closed again without notice, after I got all my things ready and drove across town. Nothing is more frustrating than taking a preworkout then finding out your time was wasted. It happens so often here I feel I need to call before deciding to work out. Total inconvenience, not to mention they continue to charge my account that I signed up for a 24 hour gym. Really frustrating to be a "member" here read more

The gym was closed for most of covid times and I wasn't able to transfer my account to my new location. Standing at my new location today for 45 minutes, the woman on the phone pushed the buck to customer service or the "other" gym I had been transferred to. She offered for me to talk to her manager and then never put them on the phone. Her suggestions were for me to figure out who my home gym was through the app (which I've only since downloaded during Covid) or track down through customer service and my bank to figure out which location charged my membership fee a couple months ago. I'm disappointed in the customer service, communication or lack there of I have experienced the last several months. read more

I've never been to such a large fitness facility with so little equipment. Dozens of cardio machines, but almost no free weights. Only 3 free weight benches for everyone in the gym to share. Whole sections of the gym are dedicated to variations of ab machines (there might be 12 machines to work abs). The place looks great and the restrooms & showers are top notch. Overall, not bad...but not great either. I guess, for $10/mo, it's a still a good deal. read more
