Very bad customer service. Today I visited this location to get assistance with my membership. Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience. The employee at the counter, named Rafael, did not greet me or offer any help when I approached -- he was just standing there and seemed unsure of what to do when I asked for assistance. Thankfully, another staff member stepped in and was able to help me with my membership. However, this was my first visit, and it left me with a very poor first impression. Wish I could give this 0 stars. Tamia was rude, not helpful and scoffing at her coworker Andrew for not checking me in on the right computers. My phone was dead and they wouldn't let me check in with my black card so they signed me in as a plus one under my husband's card. I said NO I want to be checked in to use the tanning. They wouldn't check me in and they wouldn't let me use the tanning which I pay for. Skylar white the corporate club manager was able to pull up my account and was saying it inactive when my account actually IS active. I don't understand the issue. What happens if people lose or break their phone? Then they can't use their paid for black card membership? Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. Will never be coming back here. The Peekskill location of Planet Fitness is a convenient gym to get a good workout in. For the price that you pay, you are able to get a good amount of machines and equipment to work out with, especially if you want to workout on the treadmills and ellipticals. There are an abundance of machines to get your cardio in. When it comes to weights, the dumbbells only go as high as about 65 pounds. That is perfectly fine for the workouts that I do, but advanced weightlifters will want to skip this gym if they require heavier weights for their workouts. The staff here are very nice and are helpful in answering questions. One thing that has surprised me is that the staff greet each person as they walk in and leave the gym. I was surprised by this because it adds a personal touch, when most gyms seem to not care who enters or leaves the premises. This small action helps to build a sense of community within the gym. One downside to this gym is that it does get pretty crowded during peak workout times. I do wish there was more space at the dumbbell area, because I like to have some elbow room when I am lifting weights. What I do love about this gym is the amount of diversity that I see within the gym. Every person is respected regardless of their walk of life or gym level. This goes a long way to feeling like a welcomed member of the gym. Overall, this is a good gym to go to if you are looking for a cheap and convenient location to workout in. read more

It's ok for the price. No free barbells, the Smith racks are always busy. The dumbbell section is tiny and everybody is there. Really hard to get a good workout. Not sure what the whole non judgement thing is about though. They have a giant sign over the dumbbells that says they will set off an alarm for anyone that is grunting or dropping the weights? From out of town trying to get a quick work out in. They can't figure out how to ring me up for a day pass for an excessive amount of time. When I'm done working out, I see that they actually charged me twice. I bring it to their attention, they say they looked up the receipt and it only showed once, so I would have to dispute it with my bank. Cool. read more

Definitely no Equinox, Planet Fitness is purely a place to work out using cardio equipment or weights as they don't offer classes (although I did see information regarding some sort of personal training). You also have to bring your own towels, as they are not provided. There are plenty of cardio machines though (treadmills, bikes, ellipticals), so even during peak hours, there shouldn't be a wait. I didn't see any cross-trainers or rowing machines, which I prefer for a total body workout. The stretching area is small in comparison to the rest of the gym, and there are no mirrors. The locker rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean and there are even private stalls for changing (good if you're coming straight from work to use the gym). Overall, the membership price is a steal (I think it's around $10 a month), so I use Planet Fitness to supplement my other gym membership because Planet Fitness is usually open 24 hours. I wouldn't advise going to the gym at 3am, unless working out with the Latin Kings doesn't phase you. read more

I like this gym a lot because it gets the job done. It is perfect for those who are busy and want to be in and out. They have an ample amount of treadmills and ellipticals so there is never a wait. The best part about this Planet Fitness is that it is open 24 hours Monday through Friday- perfect if you want to work out late or very early before work. So if you are looking for an affordable gym ($10 a month plus startup fee of about $40) and good hours, this is the gym for you. I am giving them four stars because they are only open til 7PM on the weekends- I wish it was 24 hours then too, or at least til 11PM or so. They are open until 7pm on weekends which read more

Always packed especially during the hours of 5pm to 9pm, a total reunion with people that you do not want to see, nonetheless work our with or show them your fancy sweat clothes. The guys are all in competition to see who has the biggest arms and can bench the most, locker rooms feel like a crack house out of Harlem, and I'm sick of going in there and feeling like I'm on display just upon walking in the damn door. It's crowded machine and equpiment wise, people wise, not as sanitary and clean as many assume, and its not worth 10$. You can't polish a turd. Remodeled, and still dirty and mismanaged. The Peekskil, NY location's new equipment is similar to the stuff that was replaced from other locations 2-years ago! No soap in the showers. Missing hooks and empty sanitizer dispensers abound. Add shitty music and a manager whi refuses to even listen to suggestions and complaints, much less do a damn thing about them. A recipe for you to join NYSC, Retro, UFC, club fit, or even Golds...all places where you have lower risks of infectious disease and bed bugs. YUCK! read more

Walked into this gym on a Wednesday evening and all was well at first. Changing rooms, lockers, and restrooms are very clean. Front staff is very friendly. Did my warm up on an elliptical which worked fine. Didn't realize I picked a spot right under the blinding lights they have. More like a spotlight. Turned on my Cristina Caprone app for an upper body work out. Headed towards the free weights area and was very disappointed at the space allotted for free weights. There were four benches and two sections of weights. One pair for each weight so if you don't see the one you need, adjust or wait. Hmph not what I was expecting. This place is pretty long and to spot so little for free weight, cant imagine how packed it gets. I kept struggling on not being able to use the weight I needed so I went over and used the other set of dumbbells by the stretching area. Welp the one I was looking for was missing. I could go on but the reason I didn't like this gym is the lack of space for free weight exercises. Won't be coming back read more

This gym was OK, very dark. I was annoyed bc they are suppose to take out money ONLY on the 17th but they took out money 17th and 25th which is against my agreement. I opted to cancel. Called before and girl said to come before 7. It was raining and got there 640. SN. I worked at PF it takes less than 3 mins to cancel. Well the guy tells me i have to come back bc they close at 7....... so it takes 20 mins to cancel????? I needed to cancel before the 10th and i was going out of town so NO i am cancelling today. Well i waited 25 mins to cancel ... apparently he "wasnt use to cancelling" sigh glad i got out of there! read more

set your expectations and this is a great club: $10-15 per month, clean, well-run, the machines are in good shape and they have a wonderful philosophy about dress and behavior. First off, the other reviewers complaining about the clientele would probably be happier at a more expensive gym where everyone looks the same (i.e., white). If you go to a gym to work out -- especially one that emphasizes a "judgement free zone" -- who cares what other people look like? (I do wish they would correct it to "judgment," but I digress.) Apart from physical therapy, this is the first gym I've joined. My experience here so far has been pretty good as I rehab my knee. I tend to go in the middle of the day, so I avoid the crowds and get on the machines I need without waiting. My main criticism is that the stretching area is not large enough. Maybe 3-4 people max can be there at once, and it can feel crowded. Also, not everyone wipes down the equipment when finished, even when they see someone standing there to use the machine. But that's individual rudeness; 95% of people wipe down. Otherwise I have no complaints about the cleanliness of the gym. (I don't use the showers or dressing rooms there, so I can't comment on those.) Something that would improve the experience is if the trainers circulated and offered advice when they see someone who could use the equipment more optimally. Maybe some people would find it meddling, but I'd welcome it. That being said, I find it to be a supportive environment where I don't feel self-conscious (which is huge for me -- I've always had a lot of body shame), where I can stay focused on my goals, and where I see a great cross section of society. read more

I always enjoy coming here. I use the treadmills, ellipticals and exercise bikes. Even when it is busy, there are always enough machines. I also like the circuit of ten weight training machines, where you spend one minute on each machine. A Black Card membership is only $21.99 per month, much less than other gyms. What I like best are the massage chairs and the hydromassage beds. After a workout, they are beautifully relaxing. read more

When I first joined it was ok..Not to crowded, mixed crowd and machines all were in working condition. As time went on, it became packed, still crowded at 9pm at night. When machines broke, they wouldnt be repaired sometimes for months. The mixed crowd became predominately South American and people don't speak english and many people don't wipe down equipment as they are supposed to and changing rooms smell. Staff allows kids who come with parents to play and work out on equipment even though they are very very young. Even for $5 or $10 dollars a month, it isn't worth it. read more

The facilities are overcrowded, even in mid-afternoon and always dirty, especially the showers, locker room and circuit. A lot of machines are broken for extended periods of time. I paid them $56 for the privilege of cancelling my membership in June and they've charged my card $29 every month since. Now I have to close my account and reopen a new one to stop the charges. If you want to join make sure it's a lifetime commitment cause they'll never stop charging you. read more

For $10/month it gets the job done. If you dont need classes, a trainer and do well on your own they supply the equipment and showers.

I was a member for 3 years but stopped coming because when it got busy it seemed really hot and humid. Trying to bang-out a 45 min cardio session after work sucks when it feels like it's 85'F with 90% humidity. The cancellation process is a bit of a pain as you have to physically go in and cancel in person but the staff doesn't pressure you into continuing your membership (which is nice). The cardio section is huge and they have various TVs on different channels that you can zone out to. They offer free Wi-Fi which you log into using your membership number and is good for streaming Pandora and the like. When I started there it was a good mix of people (various fitness levels and both young and old) but this past year the clientele seemed to lean younger and male during high peak times. Trying to walk into the women's changing area felt like a gauntlet of stares as the area that the guys hang-out at is right next to the women's restroom. I'm sure this doesn't bother a lot of women but for me personally it was a little intimidating. If they moved the smith machines to a different area away from the woman's room it probably would get rid of that problem. The stretch-out area is tiny and there were a couple of times where I had to stretch out after my cardio in the women's room (which is big!). It's definitely affordable ($10/month plus a yearly fee) but it's time for me to find a better gym. read more

I joined at this location on a whim because it was close to work, but I prefer the one in Wappingers where I originally was a member for a few years. This one is smaller and super crowded and always felt humid to me. I only went a few times and then used my black card membership in Wappingers instead on weekends. Eventually I stopped going so when my year was up I canceled. It's not a bad deal but this particular location wasn't for me. read more

After speaking with mike I realized that this gym had a much more personal and friendly atmosphere that NYSC (i had previously been a member of NYSC in the past) So I decided to sign up right over the phone and he made the process so easy! Has everything I need for a complete cardio and weight workout. It is bright and clean with all new equipment. Plenty of locker space. Average size showers kept mostly clean. Bathroom area spotless. Gym could use Spinning Bikes, rowing machine and perhaps a punching bag. Definitely needs more benches during busy times, however floor space may limit that. Circuit and cable machines are perfect. Extra perks for Black Card Members are great. Heated Hydro massage beds are very relaxing, as well as the massage chairs. Plus the power to check into any Planet Fitness in the US is awesome when traveling, or even to mix up the atmosphere every now and again. Glad I joined. read more

This place is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. The reason it is so cheap is because they offer no services and support to people who actually want to get into shape. They say that they offer unlimited fitness classes, but the three times that I tried to go to one, I got nothing. They require you to sign up for the classes in advance, which I did every time. Yet, when I would get to the gym, I'd usually be the only one signed up for the class so they would just act surprised that I was there even though I didn't get any notification that the class was cancelled. It's really frustrating to get up at 6 am to go to a class at the gym (when you really just want to stay in bed) only to find out that they really don't intend on ever providing fitness classes. I also signed up for a fitness consultation with the trainer there and it was supposed to be one hour and it lasted about 10 minutes and I felt really uncomfortable the whole time as the trainer made me feel like I was a bother and didn't really have anything prepared for me. I'm a beginner when it comes to working out and one time I was unsure about how to use one of the weight machines so I asked one of the guys at the desk about it. He said something really vague and when I asked for clarification because I didn't know what I was doing, he rolled his eyes at me and walked away. Planet Fitness is such a joke. They just want your money but don't actually care about people getting fit and healthy. They hope you just pay for a membership but never come. That is their ideal customer. They have a giant bowl of candy at the entrance. I want a supportive environment, free of bad food temptations, that is filled with knowledgeable people. the gym is great, cheap, i have been a member for 2 years however the staff is unattentive and the general manager has an rude attitude and if he wasn't there the gym would jump to a 5 star for the price im paying. he randomly blew up on me today when i entered and told me i'm not welcomed to work out today and kicked me out. that was the rudest behavior i have ever experienced from staff and that is unacceptable. also every time i walk in he gives me a bad look maybe he's racist. read more

This use to be a wonderful gym. It has gotten so bad there that after numerous warnings I had to report them to the health department. It has gotten so they don't even bothering cleaning the machines and you can literally write your name in the dust. They have also stopped using the air conditioning all the time, they keep running out of supplies, the floor is coming up in places and people are tripping on it. The heat and humidy in that place has become unbearable and very unhealthy. I never heard men complaining before but boy are they complaining now!!!! read more

I joined three months ago and when I signed up they failed to mention that they did not currently offer classes, nobody offered to show me around the gym, and nobody mentioned that they even have trainers. Good gym. Staff is nice and pretty open to answering my dumb question about the tanning room and beauty angel machine. That last one is actually pretty good and really relaxing after a workout. The lockers and massage black card exclusive chairs are clean and well maintain. They have long hours sonthey give you little excuse for "I just can't make the time to workout BS". They are pretty aggresive with their charging so you better make the best outta that $20 a month. Good for the casual gym goer.
