If you're a person with a disability, I would advise you to avoid planet fitness in Commack Mayfair section !
My daughter Has Tourette's Syndrome with motor and vocal tics and was there today working out with her friend. The assistant manager Andrew , approached her and told her to 'keep it down', because he could hear her from the other side of the gym and he couldn't focus on his job. My daughter's friend asked him is it because of our talking or because of her ? If it's because of her, her friend told him she can't help if she has Tourette's and he say yeah I know, but I could hear it from the other side of the gym. My daughter is very timid and she's not confrontational like I am, So she apologized and told him she was sorry for
Being too loud . My daughter is now understandably very upset and shaken up about this and doesn't want to go back.
Let me explain something;
people with Tourette's syndrome can't control their tics, even if they wanted to!
I called planet fitness immediately after she told me and asked to speak to a manager. when I began to explain why I wanted to speak to a manager the person on the phone said he was the assistant manager and his name is Andrew. He cut me off mid sentence and said that he was the one who approached her. I explained to him that what he did was Inappropriate and had no right to approach her telling someone with a disability to quiet down. He said that he couldn't focus on the telephone call that he was on because she was too loud . He continued to say, yes he was fully aware she had Tourette's beforehand but he was unable to concentrate on his call. He said other members were also complaining about My daughter's grunting. I explained to him that she's unable to control her tics and that after he was made aware she had Tourette's he should have apologized. Most importantly, if he knew that my daughter had Tourette's beforehand he was at the wrong to demand her to be quiet in the first place !
I also told him that he should've told the other members that clearly she has a disability and he couldn't tell her anything about it! Who the hell is this guy?
This guy also refused to apologize and lied saying that he did after she told him
which my daughter denies! When I called him out on this and explained that he has no Right to approached a disabled person like this , he became disrespectful and said, well were you there?!
What a Rude and disrespectful employee who needs a lesson in the ADA ACT!
This is completely unacceptable behavior and I told him that because of his disrespect, I was going to contact corporate and make a complaint about what he did . He said , go ahead and hung up.
This is such a shame! My daughter has finally ventured outside her comfort zone seeking to improve her physical and mental health and to be shamed like this in front of other gym members is absolutely disgusting!
Planet fitness is definitely not a no judge gym! Avoid this place! read more
