Half of machines are always broken for months on end. Never fixes them despite complaints

Men's bathroom area is horrid. Showers gross with mold and hair. Sauna full of trash. Only 1 paper towel dispenser and it's always broken. Rest of gym seems "ok" but men's locker area is frightening. I'm only posting this review after multiple complaints to staff over several months and still nothing done. The only thing more amazing than how dirty it is, is the fact that they don't do anything about it despite the numerous reviews repeating the same thing, and how easy this is to correct. Staff is friendly and the location is very convenient to where I live. That's about the best parts of this place. It's dirty. SO dirty. The men's locker room/bathroom is horrendous. And nobody and I mean NOBODY bothers to put the weights back where they belong. If you're big enough to use 100lb dumbbells put them back where they belong not where the 30's go. On top of all of this many of the machines/cables are constantly broken, for months on end. I wish there was a better option as close to my house but sadly there isn't. read more

I have been a nationwide access member for 10 years, and this location is the smallest one that I have been to in the tri-State area. I felt cramped here (no pun intended). There is hardly any space to work out. On a positive note, there is ample parking, and the inside is fairly clean. I will not be back. read more

They blocked me from their IG page instead of addressing concerns of constant broken equipment, out of date bench's missing wheels, constraint trainer turnover. Other locations are far cleaner and up to date. Commack is strictly just convenient but it's getting so unprofessional when I pay 50 a month and Planet Fitness looks more professional for way less. read more

Staying in town for vacation from Las Vegas, had a huge help from Brianna at front desk in getting set up for a guest pass, she showed me the building and was very articulate and friendly. read more

Update from 2 to 3 stars: Recently I started seeing cleaning crew walk around so the men's locker/bathroom area is SLIGHTLY better with him around, and it does not smell as bad as it used to. I still don't want to use the showers or sauna, though, they still look like they need a thorough refurbishment. A lot of equipment is stuck on just one channel (not sure why it's always same channel, if there is default or not). read more

For $40 a month it is wild that neither the members take any pride in racking their weights and staff does not come around and re-rack them. How hard is it to put back weights on the dumbbell spot where they actually belong? Apparently incredibly challenging to the majority that work out here. I will start taking my weights off and just leaving them on the floor, or hiding the dumbbells in random corners of the gym haha. read more

I went on a saturday - super busy as its the weekend. I was expecting to have to wait for machines, but not the way I had to. The trainer - who was not wearing anything LA Fitness- was training someone, but taking up multiple machines and equipment. I watched for 10mins as they didnt use a machine, yet told me I couldnt use it because they were. I already watched them finish with that machine. I don't understand why I couldn't hop in - ESPECIALLY because the other machine was out of service for weeks. Its really inconsiderate to members who pay monthly to use machines and equipment. Totally ruined my workout and I had to cut it short to drive to another LA Fitness to finish. Other locations section off areas and STILL allow members to share if asked. Just an overall disappointing experience and ruined my me time. read more

This gym is one of the smallest la fitness gyms I've been to. Most of the time there is no soap or paper towels in the bathroom. The stair master machines are constantly broken for long periods of time. The staff who work here do minimal work to help guests. I feel as the customer I should be greeted when I scan in and that never happens. There are only a few employees here that are friendly. I am only giving it two stars because the actual gym and class room is clean. Worst employees ever. Don't even bother greeting the person at the front desk.. they won't acknowledge you. read more

Definitely was nervous coming to this facility and checking it out by the amount of Yelp stars it has. I came on a Saturday morning. It wasn't too packed. The bathrooms were clean and much more lit with light than the one in Smithtown. The treadmill was so outdated and dirty. If you sweat on the treadmill, don't worry - you're gonna sweat even more here because they DO NOT have fans on them. And the ceiling fans are so small you can't feel anything. They did have a big room and I liked that they had punching bags, because I know some LA's don't. Mind you, the punching bags are IN the classroom, so I have no clue if you're allowed to use them if classes are on. I did notice the showers were clean, which is a positive because I thought I was going to get diseases in the Smithtown one. read more

Smaller gym but clean and nice staff. My personal trainer Jade has been amazing. I have seen fast results and makes working out fun. Wish they had more stairmasters that worked and more class options early in the morning or after 5pm. read more

Hands down, the worst customer service I have come across in some time. This is what went down: I joined LA Fitness in Buffalo, New York where I live. I signed up for the particular package that would allow me access to all of the LA Fitness gyms, I believe the formal title is, "Multi Club Access." Though I reside in Buffalo and only travel home to Long Island on occasion, I figured that paying more per month to use this Commack location a few times a year would be worth it. So, in I go. I got to the front desk, handed the girl working behind the counter my pass and told her that I belong to the LA Fitness in Buffalo, but have the multi club access. She told me that there was a $5 charge to use the gym even though I had access to any of the LA Fitness Gyms. I explained to her that this membership "perk" or membership feature I should say, considering I pay more to have it, did not require an additional FEE each time I wanted to use another gym besides my home base. She grabbed another worker to confirm that I was able to access the gym free of charge and he said that I could use the gym but typically there is a charge. (BS) Okay, so I inquire about where I can purchase a water bottle in this place and the girl behind the desk points to her left. I follow her point and see two vending machines, $1.75 per water bottle and the machine only accepts $1 bills. I only had a $5 on me so I went to the front desk to ask if anyone had change. The same guy who granted me the PRIVILEGE of using this gym for FREE, (HA) told me that they do not carry change in the building. I turn to the business section of the gym, where there are at least six other associates and politely asked if anyone had change for a $5. EVERYONE said NO in unison. Does nobody come to work with wallets or purses anymore? Yes, yes they most certainly do, but this cheery gang could not be bothered to lift a finger and help me out. Mind you, it was 3 pm, slow as could be, maybe five people working out in the entire gym. I had to leave at this point to find a water bottle elsewhere. Got back a few moments later, smiled at the front desk workers and walked towards the back locker room since it had been established that I was going to be working out at this gym without paying the ridiculously unjustified $5. The gentleman at the front desk stops me and says and I QUOTE, "We decided we are going to charge you 5 dollars actually, is that okay?" PARDON? SOOOO, you just happened to have a change of heart while I was out purchasing a water bottle because your associates were too busy sitting around doing nothing to assist me in making change? SO, I replied, "It's not really okay, considering I PAY per month to have access to ALL LA FITNESS CLUBS, but I have to work out so here's the 5 bucks." I handed him the money and angrily headed to the locker room to change and get ready to work out. After changing, I wondered whether this $5 fee was a one time thing or if I was going to have to pay $5 every time I wanted to come to this gym. I once again, inquired with the front desk and was told that I would have to pay $5 every time. This was not right. The manager told me that Suffolk County is the exception to that rule and that people must pay to use their club. I asked to see this in writing. The manager said, no problem and went to his computer. Thirty seconds later he said, "Well I can't find it but I know it's a rule." So what did I do? I took my 5 bucks back, left and never looked back. I WILL not be supporting this LA Fitness, ever and I highly suggest others don't either. It is the most expensive gym in the area, and for what? For lazy, unfriendly, hostile customer service? No thank you. I was not asking for free food, free drinks, free movie tickets or free clothes. The gym was not losing a PENNY by allowing me to work out at this location. I AM A MEMBER! I BELONG TO LA FITNESS. This was handled completely inappropriately. Clearly this is run by money grabbing corporate jerks. It is obvious that the staff doesn't care at all about their guests, just the money, which is IRONIC, considering none of them had "ANY MONEY" in the building to help break my five. read more

Signed up for membership and worked out 5 personal training sessions as part of the deal. I received a call a few days later saying that the supervisor did not approve it and they cancelled my membership. They could now only offer me 1 free training session, which everyone gets as part of the membership. This was highly unprofessional and will try to talk to the supervisor who I was not able to leave a message for. What kind of gym does that to new members? They obviously don't care too much about their members. I'm not sure why they would offer something if they can't follow through with it. Update: I spoke with the personal training supervisor Jeff, who sounded like a telemarketer with a script, who told me it's corporate policy not to offer personal training sessions. He said this is a business and it's not his corporation so he has to answer to them. He was very arrogant on the phone and not very sympathetic. When I asked why they offered me the personal training sessions, he said he did not know because he wasn't there. Huh???? He also said that the sales staff was reprimanded. I don't think the sales staff are the problem, it's a management problem. He then told me if I can get personal training sessions at another gym, then I should go there. As for the gym itself, the classes I took were ok, nothing great, geared more for beginning exercisers. There were plenty of machines- treadmills, ellipticals, etc, but nothing special. The gym isn't as large as others and don't really think it's worth the high cost. Bottom line: La Fitness is a corporation that just wants your money, doesn't provide the customer service that it should and they are not willing to offer discounts or other incentives to attract members. read more

I am a new member. Completed my first exercise session yesterday. The gym was clean and spacious. Large selection of circuit exercise equipment. Two of everything so did not have to wait to use the equipment. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Allowed me to charge my iPhone at the sales desk while I was exercising. I travel a lot. So I visited the locations in Stony Brook, Huntington Station, Smithtown, and Melville, which will be convenient so I don't miss any workouts. Getting a pair of bathing trunks during winter was quite the challenge. Looking forward to being in the pool, sitting in a sauna, and getting relief from sore muscles in the hot tub. All the clubs have free daily classes. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until I m in better shape to take advantage. read more

Holy crap, It DOES exist -- a gym with staff that regularly walks around and puts away stray weights, dumbbells and exercise balls. Plus one star. Why can't Lake Grove, with proportionally more equipment and staff, do the same thing? Regarding equipment, this place has one proper cage/rack thing with adjustable safety bars and two almost-complete racks with 'fixed' safety positions (more appropriate for shoulder pressing... wish I could explain it better). It has less equipment than other locations but that seems to be commensurate with less membership too. No pool and I don't think there's a sauna or basketball court either, but for weights (free, fixed, machine, cable, dumbell) and cardio, it's perfect. read more

Just went back for first time. Pleased they took temperature and asked questions. They do have sanitizer bottles available to wipe machines. Not everyone was cleaning them after use. It was good to get back after almost 6 months And hope it will be able to remain open MOST members were wearing masks correctly however a few were not. Mostly older men and some people exposing their nose I had to avoid these people which makes it less enjoyable. I agree with the former poster the staff has to address the people not wearing mask correctly. It only ruins it for the rest of us following the rules and we don't want it closed down. read more

Machines are old and worn. For example all elliptical machines have an outlet for the first iPhone and squeak constantly. Bathrooms are typically filthy and usually no paper towels any. I was told cleaning crew comes around 10 on the weekends when I asked about paper towels being empty and garbages overflowing. If it wasn't for convenience this place would be empty. Staff can't be bothered. Update is that since the new gym opened around the block they tried to update their gym but same old couldn't be bothered staff, rusty machines and overall dirty place. I never been in this gym or even signed up for it only checked the offer they sent it to my email, but they hacked me and keep charging my account without my authorization. I opened a claim and the representative said we have to change ur card for security. And after I receive the new card I see all the amounts from La fitness was transferred to the new account. I called them again and they said the claim was denied because La fitness provided ur name and address? !! So if someone knows my name and my address that means they have the right to charge me. This's ridiculous. Today I see they report it to my credit and I called again and they said we only can reopen the claim, if you guys not gonna solve this stupid issue I'll go to the small court to file a claim against all of you and will put it in all the social media because they fraud my credit information and charging my account without my authorization. read more

This gym is poorly maintained. The last 3 times i visited this month of May 2022 the men's bathroom were disgusting. The toilets are always overflown with paper, the sinks are always filed with paper towels and the paper towel dispenser is usually empty. The management before the pandemic really took pride in the clubs cleanliness. A few years back there was always a maintenance staff doing bathroom checks every hour. Current management not making cleanliness a priority. I have had to tell the front desk the last 3 times i was there that the bathrooms were really horrible and unusable. This is sad because i have been an LA fitness member for dozens of years and unfortunately this club is closest to where i live. read more

In the photos I posted you'll see the condition the equipment is in. Followed by the chemicals and glue that gets on your hands and possibly clothing. The torn rubber is on numerous pieces of equipment that I've asked them to address but they don't care. Handles are sliding off and tearing. Seems to be LA fitness' business model. Let everything deteriorate unless absolutely necessary. These are minor things that could make this place much better. The place is not very clean and it's kept warm in the summer. Let me start off by saying that I have been going to this location for almost 10 years and I have never experienced a worse staff then is presently employed there. This isn't even an issue of the gym being messy (it is) or supplies not being stocked (it isn't) or equipment constantly being broken/out of order (that happens too); my issue with LA Fitness in Commack is that they do nothing when there are real problems. There is a sales person that works there, Zack, who is in charge of getting people to sign up for personal training sessions. His position is often one of the first substantive points of contact that a new member has within the gym. You would think that they would put someone in the position that knows how to respectfully interact with members, but that is not the case. Zack first asked his infamous question "You got a work out plan for today?" to me when I was scanning in one day. It struck me as odd because I go to the gym 4-5 days per week and I've definitely seen him before; but I answered "Yes, I'm good, thanks" and walked in. The next time he came up to me almost immediately after I started walking on a treadmill.."You know what you're working out today?" I responded; "Yes. I'm not interested in signing up for personal training." At this point, I thought that he would stop asking me because I made it clear that I was not interested in what he was trying to sell. Well, he didn't get the very blatant message and asked me again a few weeks later. Then again another time after that. At this point, I very directly said "Can you stop asking me that question, please." He was taken aback by my directness and made a comment to a friend that I had been "mean" to him. He stopped acknowledging me at all after that. I told the general manager about these interactions and his response was to chuckle and say "yeah, that's how he is". At this point, let me explain that I'd had several conversations with other women at the gym who also had experienced him coming up and asking that exact same question to them multiple times. About a week ago, a friend of mine witnessed him having a conversation with another female, who was clearly uncomfortable with the convo. My friend said something to Zack about how he's made several women uncomfortable, etc. At one point she said she was considering cancelling her membership to which Zack responded "there's the door" while pointing to the exit. After their conversation, Zack proceeded to body shame my friend by calling her fat and saying she hadn't made any progress in the gym. This is a sales person who signs people up for personal training.... I called and filed a complaint with LA Fitness about him and was told I would likely receive a call to follow up. I never received a call and apparently all that has happened is Zack received a "warning". I was also told by an employee that my complaint was essentially dismissed because the managers "didn't think he meant it like that." So not only is this gym poorly maintained and kept, but the staff do not care about the members. The managers in charge of this location do not seem to care about the members either. LA Fitness in Commack, and likely all of them, do not care about their members and will facilitate an environment that accepts body shaming and harassment if it will make them $ If you can at all help it, do not go to LA Fitness Commack, or any LA Fitness for that matter. They're a harassment case waiting to happen. read more

If you come here and you are over age 50 and hit on 20 year old girls you should have your membership revoked. I come to this gym strictly because it's location is convenient for me and my schedule. However, it is one of the smaller LA fitnesses without a pool on Long Island. The manager of the club, a blonde woman, is never friendly nor inviting. In fact, I had an experience where I was trying to bring a guest to try the club out and she wouldn't let them in. Also, there is always a shortage of front desk staff. The membership advisors are always here though. In terms of cleanliness, there is about one woman always working. It's nearly impossible for her to keep this place spotless. You have people leaving their weights everywhere. The guests at this club never unrack their weights and leave a mess everywhere. I always see the cleaning lady working- so I don't understand how the place isn't spotless. The equipment is mediocre. There are only two squat racks and two benches. Needless to say, when the gym gets crowded there is not enough to keep people content. The treadmills are older but they get the job done. I have heard people complain the ellipticals are old and squeaky. Overall, I give this gym 2/5. It doesn't offer anything special. If I wasn't in the area, I would go someplace else. There aren't that many gyms in this area. The owners of this franchise do not take care of their gyms. They run them into the ground instead of building them up and taking care of them. read more

ZERO respect for members' well-being as mask mandate is NOT enforced by staff. Staff sits behind counter playing on their phones while weights are strewn about, paper towels dispensers are empty, and people huff and puff without masks during a huge omicron spike, as if it's business as usual. The sauna is absolutely disgusting, the floor has dirt and filth in the corners and obviously isn't maintained. Fox News on every tv, a possible indicator as to why they don't monitor mask wearing by members... I will be cancelling my membership after 10 years. If what you see is filthy, we can imagine what we can't see is t cleaned often (I.e weights). You get no response from corporate. read more
