I attended a Wednesday night hot yoga boot camp class, which was so crowded that people's towels were practically touching each other! The instructor could not walk around for corrections as there was no room between people. This was an exercise class where people were moving around (jumping, etc) and of course sweating a lot as it is hot yoga, and sweat was flying. I was next to a man who was shirtless (all the men were) and it was gross to have a sopping wet person literally inches away. Other places limit the # of people in each class - I highly suggest one of those...

I am writing to express my concerns regarding my recent experiences at Yogaflex studio,…read morespecifically relating to the conduct of instructor/owner Dana. During my classes, I have observed Dana frequently raising her voice at students and managing the class in a manner that feels more akin to running a deli counter than fostering a supportive yoga environment. This approach creates an atmosphere of discomfort rather than one of peace and relaxation, which is essential for yoga practice. Additionally, I have witnessed a teacher putting students on the spot, particularly regarding poses she struggles with herself. This not only undermines the students' confidence but also detracts from the overall experience. Or another teacher yelling at a student for throwing a dirty tissue in a freshly bagged wastebasket. Or once she kicked me into place with her foot instead of physically adjusting me. It was very disrespectful. I saw Dana berate a student for several minutes simply for having the wrong leg in a pose. Even after the student adjusted correctly, Dana continued to criticize them, stating that they shouldn't take her class if they couldn't follow her instructions. This went on and on and on. This level of control and negativity is not conducive to a positive learning environment. After expressing my dissatisfaction with the class, I unfortunately overheard Dana using inappropriate language while walking around the studio, suggesting that students should leave if they have complaints about her teaching style and she doesn't "put up with shit." This response is deeply troubling and does not reflect the supportive community one would hope to find in a yoga studio, which should be a. Safe space for everyone. Maybe the person didn't speak English well? I left the class feeling so angry and upset for the student. My nervous system was completely thrown. I believe constructive feedback is crucial for growth, and I hope this message serves as an opportunity for reflection on the studio's teaching methods and the behavior or the owners. It is vital for students to feel respected and supported in their practice and that yoga instructors be held account for bad behavior in order to provide a safe space for all. As she was leaving the class said she might need to do something else, agreed.

I was introduced to yoga through Balance and for that, this studio will always be special to me. I…read morehad never been interested in yoga before, but on someone's recommendation that it would be a good exercise for me in terms of taking care of not only my physical health, but my mental and emotional health, I decided to give it a try. I only picked out Balance because I drove past it every day, but it's set a precedent that's been tough to follow. My primary adjectives to describe the place are warm and welcoming. I met Stacy, the owner, and she invited me to sit in on one of her Vinyasa Flow classes. It was awe-inspiring, as someone who had always found yoga to be ugly, hard angles and graceless, I was proven completely wrong. My ultimate goal was to end up in one of Stacy's classes, but it was far too difficult for me as a beginner, and along the way I fell in love with Elaine's Iyengar classes. Elaine was so incredibly nurturing and wonderful. She has a very hands on, personal touch and I still miss hearing her voice telling each of us how we needed to modify certain poses depending on the injuries we had suffered. While it defined what I now consider essential to a yoga studio in its characteristics - an intimate atmosphere full of friendly, nurturing people and teachers, it was also incredibly practical. It was reasonably priced, allowing me to go multiple times a week and had a great range of classes at all different times. I was only there for 4 months before I moved to Peru, but in that short time it was an experience I'll never forget. It was truly a place I could have established a lasting practice, and I'm hoping that I will find a studio to rival it soon.

I'd suggest you get the unlimited monthly and try a few different types of courses first before you settle on your regular routine. It's a nice community and they have a lot of other events throughout the year. It's one of the only yoga places in the area, and definitely one of the friendliest. It's definitely a bit pricey though, so the monthly is a good option or the 10 class card....
