I've been going to this location for two years and the cleanliness lately has been disgusting. I will start with I went in the standup bed a week ago when I touched the railing on the inside, noticed it was greasy so then, of course I look closer, and there is crusty bronzing lotion all on the bottom of the handrail. I go in a few days later into the VIP lay down and notice there's lotion smudges on the top glass where your knees might hit and people's hands meaning they did not clean the top glass. Today I arrive the girl working in the front tells me the gentleman before me has three minutes remaining for the stand-up while we wait we chitchat, gentleman exits, and she tells me it's ready. She never cleaned it. The bottom of the stand up where our feet are should be cleaned the handrail on the outside and the handrails on the inside I will attach a picture of the same crusty bronzing lotion that is now been on the rail for a week meaning who knows the last time they cleaned the handrails on the inside. This is completely unsanitary. read more

I have been a member of Planet Beach since the early 2000s. I used to have the full spa membership, and I loved it! However, over the last few years, the equipment and equipment maintenance has been horrible. The hyrdobed is in horrible shape and doesn't function as it should. The bulbs in the "platinum" bed are far past time to be replaced. The standup is the only bed with less than 12mo old bulbs. There are loose bad bulbs lying up against the wall next to the stand-up bed. Which is extremely dangerous. The staff of this location is amazing! They are friendly, helpful and always do their best to mitigate customer aggravation regarding their bad equipment. But I have seen multiple members complain and leave notes/letters for the management. Including myself, requesting that the beds be updated with good bulbs. And nothing ever happens. I used to refer all my friends here, but I can't now because I myself may be canceling soon. We shouldn't have to tan 3 times to get the tan we should receive in 1 session due to old bulbs. read more

I had a full membership there for the first month. I soon realized that the equipment was not up to date. Every three light bulbs would be out or flickering in every tanning room. I want to start by stating the staff are all incredibly professional, helpful & some of the nicest store employees I've interacted with. The 2 stars are in no way a reflection of them. No, the problem is the equipment. I bought a 3 month package during a promo & during that entire time not 1 bed was ever fully functional. Each one either had missing bulbs, bulbs 1/2 as bright as the others or just blown out completely. The red light bed was so incredibly hot that I got a burn on my leg from the glass. Everything was always, "on order". But never was any of it repaired. This place is WAY to expensive to have such poor equipment. I have been a member only a week and been in once. So far the ladies in the front are very pleasant to speak with. The place has good music, candles and personal towels in each room. I spend a lot of money at this place , and truly appreciate Sierra. She always greets me with a smile, and makes me feel welcome. Now for the bad news.. I came in to this " so called" spa to relax. What I found were no towels, no baby wipes, and a room with bowls and buckets full of water from a leaking AC. That's been this way for MONTHS. There is no excuse for this. I believe there is a new owner from when I went about a year ago. The customer service is compared to a year ago! Customer service is golden these days. The prices are also better as well. The new owners definitely cleaned that place up. The only thing I would recommend is putting full length mirrors in the tanning rooms. read more

I've been a client here for a few years. Ciara is amazing and always greets each one of us walking in with a great smile and friendly warm welcome. Making our day brighter, even if she is having a bad day, you'd never know it. She makes sure to get to know the clients and their specific likes / dislikes when it comes to the tanning beds, even products for recommendations. If there is an issue, she will be quick to try to remedy a situation as well. There has been new staff recently, which also is just as friendly and has some pretty great shoes to fill. I'd totally recommend this establishment and considering the hours they work, and the amount of personalities they deal with on a daily basis, thumbs up ladies! read more

The only decent aspect of this dirty, dingy and outdated establishment is the amazing, bubbly and sweet girl at the front desk! I can't even begin to express how gross I felt after paying this tanning business a visit for the first time. I was comped a steam body treatment for my first visit. This is how they try and get you to sign up! Well let me tell you this was no picnic! The steam tub was old, breaking, hard water stains everywhere, some mildew and the plastic was yellowing. The treatment felt great but I didn't have the heart to tell the sweet front desk girl I didn't want to do it because it looked nasty. So after my treatment I tried the tanning bed. Which the girl did clean but because of its age and not being well maintained it just looked gross! This place needs a face lift and some new equipment stat!! I will not be going back! read more

This is a chain. The Manteca location is in a convent. The tanning beds appear to be cleaned between each client. The hydro bed has a musty odor. Eye protectors are not provide. There are several beds to accommodate different intensity tanning levels. A water cooler is available. The staff is generally pleasant. Appointments are not necessary. I recommend making one as it gets busy in the evening. The price is HIGH. Read the small print when signing package contracts. I was told over the phone I have to give a 60 day notice to void the contract. That is even after a year of membership. Will be following up on this. Definitely a customer dissatisfier. For over $70 a month eye protectors should be provided as upscale tanning salons provide this service. read more

I really have never had any issues with any planet beach's in this area when it comes to CUSTOMER SERVICE. (Riverbank, all in Modesto, & now Manteca have all been amazing people) Everyone is always SO knowledgeable. The lady that helped me at this location today acted/seemed as if she was in management. She knew every customer by their first name when they came in & out. She wore glasses with her hair in a bun & headband. She honored my yelp "check in" discount like a champ. Excellent tanning/spa salon without the upscale cost! Love the decor so feminine and relaxing. The Tanning beds and rooms are clean and equipped with everything you need. The dry sauna is very relaxing for my husband and the Platinum tanning bed is larger so it accommodates him comfortably at 6'2". The hydro-therapy bed is so addicting, it rehydrates your skin and leaves your skin feeling so soft! Nycole and her staff are very helpful and accommodating. There are plenty of products to choose from at competitive prices. Horrible experience, do it yourself. The front desk employee was not clear on different packages the spa was offering. Upon entering the room, I was instructed to load the spray cartridge myself (I've never had to do this) I was nervous I was going to do it wrong. I noticed the room was filled with ladders and boxes. Not to mention the hydration system was broken as well as my tanning door wouldn't shut. I exit my tan and there are no towels or paper towels. Upon walking out, I noticed the towels were on the rack mid center. No one explained to me this was a "do-it-yourself spa". Needles to say, I won't be returning. I like this place! The Mystic Spray Tan is such an experience. It was my first spray tan and I really didn't know what to expect, and to be honest I was kind of scared when I stepped into the dark tanning booth. It was pretty loud But everything went fine! This place is okay. There is a smell every time I come here. It isn't offensive but also not something I necessarily want to smell when I go. The place also feels and looks a bit dingy. I have only done HotWorx here and it looks like they don't sweep the inside of the room very often. The water dispenser they had also didn't have any water in it which I don't mind bringing my own but it looks like it has been empty for a while. Last time I went the young lady up front was clearly new and wasn't quite sure how to ring up or set up the video. Not her fault but the training was clearly lacking from management. Way too expensive. No eyewear provided and at that price they should at least provide the paper ones. I almost always have to wait but when I don't,they never seem to have the platinum bed available(hmmm) I couldn't afford 50 something bucks a month especially when I work out of town and never make the lousy hours they are open,I decided to cancel my membership. Of course...60 days notice which I am checking into to see if it's even legal...I went in so they say..and are wrong...on the 17th and I was drafted the 15th so now I have to wait 90 days....ridiculous....bad management,bad bulbs...... read more

I've been going to various Planet Beach locations for years and they are a great franchise. I think this location has gone down hill since I started coming here though. Beds and spa services are constantly out of order and the place has become pretty dirty. All of the staff is really nice so they have that going for them at least. Great customer service is always a plus and these ladies have it. I just wish the business was kept up better. There aren't many options for tanning in Manteca, so I think places just get comfortable when there isn't much competition. read more

The staff is prettty helpful when you ask questions, but you definately have to ask or they offer no information. Most of the time everything is pretty clean. However, despite the "walk in ready" concept of the company, you have to make an appointment or you'll be waiting at least 20 minutes. read more

Shop is kind of in rough shape; bad paint job, and after making an appointment for my spray tan I still had to wait 30 minutes. And there was a girl doing a spray tan in front of me that came out of her spray tan complaining that it didn't work. To whom it may concern, I'm a long time customer of Planet Beach and felt compelled to write this. I'm very disappointed in the upkeep of the Manteca CA location. I go in weekly for my appointments and find on a regular basis that there are no clean towels, no clean robes ( I always have to bring my own, the salon is dirty and not kept up, the door on the spray tan machine is warped and won't close, and they are always out of supplies. I feel that I pay an extraordinary amount of money each month to this company to have to deal with all of these issues. I've never had to bring my own robes and towels to any other spa. I'm hoping that this letter falls in the hands of someone who cares about this company, and works to fix these issues. Otherwise I will need to go elsewhere. read more

Do not waste your money on going to this place!! I went to A PERFECT TAN in Manteca, it was great! The beds were new never had to wait. unfortunately they are in the process of changing management. So i went to Planet Beach. BIG MISTAKE!!! This place sucks! The bed is so outdated, good luck getting any color!! You have to make an appointment because their one good tanning bed is down. not my problem! I wish i could get my money back, but will have to wait it out. HORRIBLE! read more

I have not tanned in a while but since I have been getting back into shape and a little happier with myself I got a desire for some color! They have alot of membership options. It is overwhelming all the things that come with tanning now. Honestly I am pretty traditional and I just like to come and do my regular tanning. I have also done the mystic tanning they have here and that turned out great. They have plenty of lotions to chose from and all of the staff is nice. The only thing I do not like about this place is everytime I come in they try to sell you something else. I know that is their job but I am already paying by the month to come here and I got my lotion and I am happy with it and I dont feel like I need to be sold something everytime. I just wanna come in and tan. If I need something I will ask for it. Other than the excessive upselling I am happy with Planet Beach and will continue to come back. read more

The shop is both dirty and not well kept. From the beds, to the bathroom, to the paint on the walls, you get a very dirty vibe while in there. 40$ a month (is the cheapest) and they are constantly out of towels and the "spa" treatments are always broken. read more
