It's gotten a lot better overtime but they have days where it's impossible to get them to answer the phone. I'll show up in person and it's empty customer wise. Worst bagel I have ever had lox was slimy. Did not read the order I ordered a lox bagel with tomatoes and onions they just sent a pale plain bagel very doughy and cream cheese slapped on it and lox. Called several times and keep saying hold on and never come back so I drove there figuring they are busy. I walk in and no customers at all and about four staff just talking and laughing. I really like the food and service here. Everyone is super friendly and they are usually very accurate with the orders. I usually call ahead and the order is ready for pickup in about 15 minutes. The vegetable chibatta sandwich is my favorite. It has a mix of veggies (squash, mushroom, bell pepper, onion, etc.) and mozzarella melted on the bread with pesto and balsamic sauces. Very disappointed. I'm newer to the area and I thought I finally found a really good local bagel place. Bagels were decent, cream cheeses as well, service could have been a little better, but generally good. Then I saw one of the ladies using an old windex bottle with oil to spray down some veggies I think they were going to roast. That is disgusting on so many levels. If you don't know you shouldn't be using old cleaning product bottles for food, you should not be in the restaurant business. They are going to get someone sick. Very disappointing. read more

The food is subpar and not worth the wait. The front staff takes forever to take your order, then forever and a day to pack the bag and take payment. The bagels are decent but not the quality you would expect if it's a staple menu item (i.e, the business name). I have to say they have the best bagels in the area. The only problem is that the counter staff has problems. My last three visits they have messed up my order. Today I paid for three bagels but when I got home there was only one in the bag. I will be checking the bag before I leave the store from now on. I recently moved into the area and have found a diamond in the rough. My first visit was a couple weeks ago with my daughter who lives in Virginia. She was craving a "real bagel" since Virginia does not have bagels like here. They were so good that I picked up a dozen and half for her to take on the plane home so she could freeze some and enjoy them at a later time. She reluctantly shared a couple of them with a few coworkers to show them the difference in Jersey bagels compared to Virginia. They were shocked in the difference in the quality and taste of the bagels. It's true that there's nothing like a Jersey bagel and Planet Bagel is one of the best. Today I stopped in and bought a dozen and a half for my office and everyone had nothing but great things to say about them. All the bagels were fresh and the service was quick. What more can anyone ask for on a dreary Friday morning but a great bagel to get through the work day. This will definitely be the go to place for my office parties and my private get togethers. Recently moved to Union Beach from Staten Island. We definitely knew we would not get NY bagels in NJ. We tried pretty much every bagel store within a five mile radius! Planet Bagel has a solid bagel. No NJ bagel will have the rise or chewy texture of a N.Y. bagel, but Planet Bagel is definitely 80%. They also have good BEC and great bagel flavors.
