My husband went there to get a couple of special locks that we couldn't find at Menards. The guy said that it would be no problem to get them ordered. When they came in, he went to pick them up and they were the wrong size. So he told the lady behind the behind the counter they were wrong and that he didn't want them. She got angry and yelled at him saying what are we supposed to do with them? Then told him not to come back and to go elsewhere for his needs next time. Best customer service ever! I brought in an old trunk I purchased from an antique fair, with a lock that wouldn't open. There was something rattling inside and it had been in there for at least 50 years. I wanted to keep the lock in tact, so I called Plainfield Lock Techs. Spoke with Scott, he said bring it in and he'll see what he can do. Next day, I get a call that Scott worked on the lock, got it open, while keeping the lock and hardware in tact. I ordered two key fobs on Amazon for my Town and Country minivan. Dealer and ACE Hardware would not program them for me unless I purchased the fobs at their facility. So I go here to get a key made for my car. I called ahead, made the appointment and showed up at the designated time. The guy wants to cut a key which doesn't have the remote buttons. I said no, I want the remote. The guy tells me he didn't know that I wanted the remote, and the lady behind the counter blurts out "he never said remote". Right, blame your customers. If you think for a second, a solid plastic key top isn't going to crack, so use your head. If I was to be petty, I might not have said "remote" but I didn't say I wanted a valet key either. You're the so called pros, why didn't you ask? As it turned out they didn't have the blank that I was looking for and said they would order it. It will be here tomorrow they said. They would call me they said. And, it would cost me $50 more for the remote. I waited two days and no phone call so I called the car dealer. Their key installed was $50 cheaper and a genuine part. As it turns out you need to bring in all of your keys so they can all be enrolled at the same time. if you only enroll the new one all the others will be deleted from programming. Of course, the locksmith never said that. I'm sure the lady behind the counter will find a way to blame that on me too. So while their website says they can save you money, the reality is they're 50% more expensive, they didn't have inventory, didn't call to tell me the key didn't come in and broke the cardinal rule, the customer is always right. Not to mention that if they did program a replacement, the spare key would have been deactivated. They failed on every level. read more
