PlaceMakers - Iron chandelier - Building Supplies Near Me - San Carlos, California

Highly recommend Place Makers. My friend and I came here on a Friday afternoon for just a couple pieces of wood for my bathroom renovation project. We didn't need much but we wanted specific look. Larry worked really hard to help us find what we were looking for. He offered to cut the wood into 5 different pieces to the dimensions that we needed also. The sale was not expensive (less than $40 for the wood), but Larry took so much time to help us with all the cutting. I am very happy and highly recommend. read more

These guys curate a collection of the finest reclaimed wood. I picked up some amazing old growth redwood and used it to produce spice racks for my business, FlipFresh Spices. The owner is super-helpful and prices are fair considering the high quality of their product. It's a friendly place, fun to shop around for wood and other eclectic stuff! read more

This place is a great find. We were interested in a door that was posted online, and staff were super responsive to both calls & texts. It's an organized site that has a vast amount of unique pieces, both historical and modern, from around the Bay Area and across the country. Larry treated us like family and gave us a nice tour. We definitely will be back again! Fun to browse and get ideas...or just be in awe! A fun visit even if you're not looking to buy anything. I was looking for reclaimed wood for a small home project (floating shelves). I had found a few vendors through web searches but my order was just too small, so I resorted to Craigslist and saw a posting for reclaimed wood by Larry. He was really responsive and thorough in his answers to a novice DIY-er and said they had a whole yard full of reclaimed wood that I could browse to find what I was looking for. When I googled them, a cute red barn came up as the company photo so I figured I would give it a go--and I was just amazed by their showroom! Their website doesn't do them justice and you just have to go in-person; there were chandeliers, sconces, tables, chairs, mirrors, and more (oh my!)... all of it vintage. (I'm regretting not taking any pictures to include with this post.) Additionally, Simon and Larry were so helpful and easy to work with and they were not patronizing at all. I would definitely recommend checking out this company if you're in the market for those items mentioned above. read more

PlaceMakers is THE source for reclaimed wood. I popped over one day to see if I could snag a couple pieces of wood to use as shelves in my apartment. Larry jumped right up and we looked through a couple stacks of his incredibly organized inventory of beautiful reclaimed wood. He's got rafters, beams, mantles etc. On top of all the things I mentioned, Larry is a great guy. He helped me articulate exactly what I was looking for and I came home with exactly what I wanted at a great price. Thanks again Larry!! read more

Simon and Larry were so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and really made my experience wonderful. I purchased a beautiful, high quality sink and faucet that will be the highlight of my bathroom remodel and the best part is that these guys are saving the planet by repurposing high end materials. How does this place only have one review!? Awesome inventory, especially for reclaimed wood. I almost want to keep it a secret but that's not fair... Friendly, helpful staff (I dealt with Larry). He helped sort the wood and made sure I got exactly what I needed. He was also patient and not pushy at all which made searching a peaceful experience! This place is absolutely incredible. Had been on the hunt for an Alabaster chandelier for months and stumbled across PlaceMakers. I had trouble just walking out with the one chandelier- the plane is full of true treasures. Not your standard architectural salvage where you have a lot of junk mixed in. They really curate beautiful pieces. What a hidden gem! Will definitely be back. read more

Placemakers has so many cool things to choose from...and Larry and the rest of the staff was super helpful and fun! We personally went there to get reclaimed wood to make shelves for our remodeled kitchen. Super great deal! We were able to make six floating shelves out of one piece of reclaimed wood we purchased. Saved us about $400 from the ones we were looking at big box commercial stores. It's difficult not to get distracted with all the other cool stuff they have. I'd highly recommend checking this place out. As the saying goes... Everything that's old is new again! read more

Went into their store yesterday to be greeted like family. excellent place to find anything you want, exquisite architecture. Super cool stuff. Everything comes from demolition of high end houses. Reclaimed wood, doors, fixtures and nick knacks the have an alternate use. Hugh yard of reclaimed wood of all types. Larry was very helpful, he moved wood so we could see the pieces underneath and made suggestions. We found the perfect piece for our mantle. He even trimmed the end for us. Beautiful old growth redwood with bits of faded paint. When the projects done I'll post a photo. What a find!!! read more

We bought an under counter refrigerator for our kitchen remodel. Larry was super sweet and asked us to return it if there were any issues. The refrigerator doesn't cool at all. We had hoped to talk to him before driving to San Carlos from South Bay. We left several messages with no response. We had hoped to remodel our house with salvaged materials as much as possible. read more

We had a phenomenal experience at PlaceMakers. My husband and I are adding shelves to an alcove and wanted reclaimed wood. Larry helped us from start to finish. He asked questions to understand our project including budget, amount of wood needed, etc. Then he helped us target our search of their extensive selection of reclaimed wood to what would work well aesthetically and for our budget. This is our first time doing a project like this so he gave us tips throughout on tools needed, how to avoid common pitfalls, etc. We left with beautiful wood for our project at a really reasonable price. We look forward to going back for future projects. Highly, highly, highly recommend. read more

We are doing work on our 1908 (or is it 1913?) Craftsman and needed some more trim pieces. I was delighted to learn about Placemakers, who had 100 year old fir from a Pacific Heights house (at half the cost of new wood). I bought every fir 1 X 6 that they had and wish they had just a bit more. The wood is gorgeous, you just can't find grain like that anymore. Larry helped me and he was delightful. Their warehouse is an emporium of wonderfulness. I wish I had known about them sooner! Sorry, I was too excited to take photos. read more
