I know. It's just a public square in the middle of the old village of Valbonne. However, it can be very helpful to be in the center so that you can get your bearings straight. The Roman grid pattern of this town leaves you with many side streets. I just felt like I understood the map of it better in Place des Arcades. If you get lost after making your way to this square, then you've got some major problems.
There are 2 restaurants that appear to be popular in this square: Café des Arcades and Auberge Provencale. The first appears to be open all the time. There's a gelato and a chocolate shop as you walk on Rue Emile Poucel from the square. They were both closed on a Monday. We did find a bakery open as we headed up Rue Grande. All was beautiful & relaxing, and a bit too quiet for an old village with tourists walking around. The best time to visit is on a Friday when it's a market day.
It was a beautiful day. We appreciated the peacefulness of this old & unique village. read more
