I came here on a day trip while I was living in Italy. It was absolutely beautiful. I wasn't really sure what to do, but I saw the signs for the Chateau (Castle) and walked up. The views were the picturesque views of what you see in Magazines. There was a beautiful waterfall up there as well. I highly recommend adding this to your sight seeing list while in Nice. I wish I would've went back for a long weekend for SCUBA diving. The water is absolutely beautiful.

FYI there is not actually a castle on this hill, but it is worth visiting nonetheless! At the base of the hill (by the #ILoveNice selfie sign) TAKE THE STAIRS (as opposed to the elevator) all the way to the top of the hill and be captivated by the breathtaking city and Mediterranean views along the way. Take a stroll through the park and make your way to the lookout offering a beautiful panoramic view of Port Lympia. On the way down the other side, cool off under the hidden waterfall...if you can find it! Excitedly, Clayton Cohn

The chateau is worth the climb, it isn't too bad at all, the stairs aren't exactly straight and even the entire time, but that's fine, the climb isn't bad. Getting to the top is worth it with the beautiful ocean on the bottom and overlooking the city of Nice and all the beautiful red roof tops. There were tours that allows you to go via these small trains, but I think the hike is worth it. Make sure to bring water and some food, picnicking with a great view such as this is beautiful, romantic even!

A moderate climb, but the view is worth it.

This is a wonderful climb you can do right off the Promenade des Anglais (or, from the other side of the Port -- they lead to the same place). Walk to the most easterly point of the Promenade near the Hotel Suisse. Just next to this hotel is a set of stairs. Climb them! It's not really that bad, probably a moderate climb. I wouldn't recommend it if you've got any musculoskeletal, heart, or respiratory issues. Take a cab to the top instead! But the stairs will lead you to this amazing plateau above the entire city of Nice. It's just stunning. You can look over the port and over the beach and learn about the history of the "castle" that was built up there in the 18th and 19th centuries. The gardens are quite beautiful and the whole experience is inspiring...and free! There was an accordion player at the top who provided us with some lovely music as we drank in the full expanse of the Mediterranean on a sunny day. Breath-taking. And a wonderful excuse for a gelato when the it's all said and done!

The view from the Chateau is worth the walk. No better view in all of Nice and pictures will never do it justice. But I'll still attach a few just so you can see. There's lots of spots to just sit and enjoy the day which is great. You can lounge under the trees or sit on one of the many benches to take in the sights. Tip: bring a box of wine, a pizza from Pizza Pilli, and a soccer ball. You can't do wrong with those three.

Definite must visit if in Nice. It gets you the second best possible panorama of the city with no effort. Just go up say cheese and you have a great picture of Nice. For those looking for one up, either take a bus or cycle up to Mont Boron. I cycled up, pretty good ride up and the view makes it worth it

I think this is a must while in Nice. I want to say it took us about two to three hours and 15,000 steps up a hill but was worth it! The views from up there are absolutely spectacular. Bring your camera and have a field day with it like we did.

If I can zombie-crawl up these stairs a day after an Ironman, you have no excuse not to make that hike, hangover or not!

Everyone said we had to go to the top of Castle Hill to watch the sunset, but the weather didn't cooperate.
