This fort is located about…read morea 20 min walk NE from the main train station, nearly 40 minutes by foot from the Picasso museum. It's also possible to take a cab though the last part of the journey to reach the fort is a 10 minute walk along a gravel/dirt trail up a slight slope so you can't escape at least some walking. The fort entry is only €3, which can be purchased at the small entry ticket office. Access to the top of the fort is only available when accompanied by staff, and they shared that there was a tour starting in 20 minutes in both French and English so I decided to join. There are several rooms with exhibits on the history of the fort which are available for perusal. The take you thru the various stages of building and the various uses it's served. Appreciation to the staff member who led the tour--she had a lot of energy and passion for sharing information about Fort Carre and Port Vauban to a small group of about a dozen people in both French and English, keeping the atmosphere light by cracking a few jokes. She took us around the main areas in the fort along the top of the walls and back down--an enjoyable 30 minutes! Afterwards it's optional to walk around outside on the grounds, which I did for a bit before heading back towards Antibes. Unfortunately not wheelchair accessible given the distance from main road and the stone stairs and narrow walkways in parts of the castle. Also no bathrooms are available at the fort so take that into account when planning your trip.

But I befriended the people next to us, which killed time. They even laughed at my bad jokes, lol. Worth the visit, beautiful views, etc. See pictures. Decent size after reaching the top. Everyone said we had to go to the top of Castle Hill to watch the sunset, but the weather didn't…read morecooperate. I went the next day in the afternoon instead. You can climb several hundred stairs or take the lift. I went with the lift because it was scorching hot and I'd been walking forever. The panoramic views of Nice and the port are amazing. Definitely worth a visit. There's also a waterfall and other things to explore up there, but I mostly just enjoyed the view and headed back because of the heat.

If you're into instagram, snap chat and TikTok this location is for you. The waterfall in this place is out of world. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen. Also, this location has the most gorgeous views of Nice. I highly recommend adding this chateau to your itinerary. It is a spot that you don't want to miss.

That was a direct quote by the tour guide. There were a few windows overlooking the sea that were used to resist a possible attack by the sea. I admit, the outlook was spectacular. Especially seeing the breathtaking views of the sea surrounding Villefranche-sur-Mer. What surprised me most during this tour was their gardens. The surroundings are definitely seen in better days, but the garden is beautifully tended. As you make your way up there, I urge you to wear comfortable shoes. The roads are uneven at times and one lady complained she nearly sprained her ankle.

You can hike down to the water, climb some rocks, enter caves, knock on the doors of villas, or just stop and admire the water. It reminds me of Laguna Beach, Big Sur, New Zealand's Milford Sound, or maybe the Shetland Islands. It is its own thing though. Take a car, UBER, or taxi to the Plage du Soleils, but be sure it takes you to the beach and not just the bay. You will know you are in the right spot when you see the small stretch of sand and the beginning of the rocky outcropping to the south. Walk the trail and then take a cab back to Antibes or Juan les Pins.

This path is not accessible to bicycles as it has too many obstructions on it such as steps and steep inclines. Portions of the trail require you to detour onto sections of beach. It is, however, a runners delight! A challenging up and down adventure. Many portions of the trail are also very narrow which is why perhaps the ratings are low. There are many insider discoveries along its path such as restaurant La Difference which is almost as inaccessible to cars as this trail is to the general population. I get it. You might not want to take your family and baby stroller on walks along this path because it is not good for that either. If you are single or planning a long running adventure then this trail is perfect for you. Enjoy!
