I honestly can't say anything positive or negative about this establishment. I googled the name of the store because of a drink measuring glass that we purchased years ago at an antique store. I posted a photo of the glass. The printed information on the glass gives the address of the store in Hollywood with the postal designation used before zip codes. That gives me an approximate age of the glass. Zip codes were first used in 1963. The name of store as shown on the glass is "Playboy Liquor" which was probably legally contested by the real Playboy corporation. I can only guess that the name of the store was changed to "Pla-Boy Liquor" to satisfy a legal obligation. I would be interested in the history of store and since I live about 10 miles away, it would be a n interesting visit. read more

Pla-Boy Liquor - Vintage liquor measuring glass from this store. - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Los Angeles, California

This place sucks. Everything is overpriced and often expired or near expiration date. The people who work here don't care about their neighbors- they never remember you no matter often you go or how friendly you are- not even so much as a "how's it going." A good corner store is a part of the community it's in. This store is anything but that. read more

Been going to Pla-boy liquor for a long long time and highly recommend them. Great customer service

they are way overpriced. For a bottle of wine that was nine dollars, they charged me 12 with tax and everything, and they never give out receipts ever. I don't know why they don't give out receipts, and when I asked for it, the receipt barely had any writing on it so there was no way for me to see how much it was in tax that they charged me. I feel scammed every time when I go there. For a 12 cans of cokes box they charge around $16. With tax. I don't think I can ever go shopping there again. Target is just down the street, and the same things at target or even CVS (which is a few feet away from this store), they charge eight dollars for 12 cans of Coke. Compared with Playboy liquor, it is much cheaper. Playboy liquor charges way over double the price. read more

Was a regular customer here - order consistency and regularly from them. Giving 1 star for prior experience and would give -10 for today. Was on the phone with the "manager" who was insanely rude, dismissive and hung up the phone on me despite my question being "what is the resolution here". Wasn't being rude, just asked how to manage my order issue. Won't be back again. Note: If you're female identifying, seemed dismissive because I was a women based on other managerial experience with this store/manager. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. read more

Just left the store, the guy who works there is totally SCUMBAG! Coming up with new prices at the moment! Been here earlier today bought some crackers, now he's just overcharging them! The most interesting when he scanned items were the same price, but he deletes it and puts another price which is higher, and says price has been changed! The guy might be have been having bad day, but that doesn't give right to create new prices and overcharge customers! read more

It gets the job of a corner liquor store done. The drinks are usually in stock, and the place is a hit or miss on cleanliness. Kind of dirty sometimes. Service is also a hit or miss, a couple of times the workers have been rude. read more

I bought a few time from them. The selection is ok and the whole store is designed for bachelors or a couple. For someone who does not drink, they are considered knowledgeable even though I am not sure they are bluffing or really understanding which one to recommended. One fo them honestly tells me he does not drink and does not know which one is good. Anyways, I got lucky either by choosing the right one myself or the recommendation was good. I am happy. read more

If there was less than one star, I would use it. I frequent this place quite a bit because I live five minutes away and it is convenient. I bought a car charger that did not work in my car. They assured me with the receipt, if it didn't work I could return it, because I was skeptical to purchase it in the first place, Worker also did not mention any time limitations of returning the merchandise. Alas, car charger did not work. I came back 2 weeks later, which was this morning, (was out of town), to return it, with my receipt. The man, his name, I asked, was "Pe"? very rude, said I could not return it, due to it being purchased 2 weeks ago. I asked for the manager, he said he was the manager, I asked for the owner, he said, we don't give out the owner's information, so I am SOL.... Service has also been terrible, rude, always on their phone, and the place is dirty.... and now, they don't stand behind anything they sell... I will not go here anymore.... Just thought you might know to be careful what you purchase here... read more

This place is SO SKETCHY... they never actually charge price on the shelf. They ALWAYS try to up charge you atleast 50 cents but sometimes even a dollar or more. OR they will charge you for a bag without asking or even after you say no. OR charge a debit fee when you're paying cash. And not even just that but the prices are already way too expensive! And As if that's not enough, I've seen expired food on the shelves and the candy sometimes is so old it's rock solid or melted. But the absolute best part is that they also don't speak English here either so when you have an issue or even just a general question they stare at you like your the dumb one for speaking the same language as every other customer, oh and you know... the rest of the country! I just went in here 5 minutes ago and they charged me over $4 for a bottle of soda! And of course they don't actually say the price back to you like any other establishment in the nation, they just put whatever number they want in the register and run your card.. I was quickly reminded why I never go to this place and you shouldn't either. Save yourself the aggravation, because the workers here are extremely slow and are at a kindergarten level (if that) when it comes to math. A middle schooler could run a store better than these people... oh and forget about parking here, not gonna happen. If you need liquor, snacks or literally anything else this store sells, CVS is right around the corner doesn't overcharge and has way better prices, better products, better selection, a pharmacy, PARKING, a good rewards system, self checkout and friendly workers.. oh and they are open 24/7! (Pharmacy closes at night though - and definitely take advantage of the rewards. I get $10 coupons and $5 coupons ALL the time from CVS, as well as other extremely helpful coupons and discounts. read more

Good service, welcoming and pretty much everything you want from a liquor store except never any damn parking

I don't even fucking leave reviews my guy. I'm an alcoholic and I know my liquor. I've already seen the reviews for fake vapes, so it's no surprise they have fake liquor as well. I bought a Hennessy and it tasted like some old man's stale left out fucking whiskey. I know what Hennessy taste, I drink a bottle a day. This was not Hennessy. Literally bought a real bottle elsewhere to see the difference. read more

I don't know what it is about Yucca St. but it's super slimy always has been, always will be, day or night. With that said, I think that Pla-Boy Liquor is the best thing it's got going for itself. Why it's the best of Yucca: ~ The Korean owners are always super happy and nice. ~ Unlike the chain drugstore around the corner, the bums in front of Pla-Boy always have a smile on their face, instead of a face that takes the smile off of yours. ~ They've got wine racks that match a super market instead of a drugstore. ~ If you didn't have time to stop at the super market for that one thing you were missing they probably have it, unless of course that one thing is broclli. They're prices are pretty good. ~ Open late. ~ And you can say hi Leroy, with his super fly hat and bright color suits if you go by after dark. read more

P-lease stop letting crazy Hollywood vagrants and gang bangers use your spot to conduct biz. L-et's support this place. A-lways drama in front of here - B-ad part of town O-ld school building Y-es! This is where playas play So this place goes down in Hollywood history for many reasons. Ed Wood, Charles Bukowski and numerous others bought booze here. It's old school, the owner is kind and it's non corporate. I lived across the street and their door chime would ring all day, to the point I went nuts. I came in and told the owner and instantly he changed it. They're really nice. Their prices are a bit higher than CVS down the street but I try to spend my money here when possible. Keep on Playin' playboy! read more

All I have to say is why spell Playboy as "Pla-boy." The hypher takes up as many space as the regular spelling? That being said it's way cheaper than Whitley Market. And a better overall munchie selection. caters to the extremely stone, homeless, crack whores and late night corner dealers. Where else can you get a 40oz, a snickers, some Franzia, and a box of Kraft Mac n Cheese. Reminds me of the bodegas I grew up with in Brooklyn. Bulletproof glass and all. $10 min on cc transactions. read more

FAKE nicotine products will make you sick. DO NOT buy nicotine from here. All are fake

I've been going here for 15+ years. Since the new Middle Eastern/South Asian (?) owners took over a few years ago, this place has jacked up prices and has some of the rudest, or least personable, service in Hollywood. I have not even once been greeted at the register by any of the clerks -- not with a hello, not with a smile, not with a nod -- nothing. Nada. Just take my money with a poker face. No "thank you" or "see you next time," either. (The previous Korean owners were always very nice.) Decent beer and wine selection if you feel like paying top dollar and being treated as a cash cow. The friendly and nattily-dressed Black guy who works "security" on weekends is the only plus side of this pathetic money-grubbing operation. read more

It's a little known fact, but really, the martini glass is a Y. Some fool stole it a while back and the boys couldn't be bothered to replace it. So playboy, became Pla Boy. It's only rock-N-roll to me but I like it. It's got bullet proof glass in front of the cash registers. And of course they don't sell single beers...this is Hollywood, you pussies. Cowboy up and drink a 40oz or just shut your mouth. They have to make a buck somehow! I came here so much, the owners fronted me wine bottles. What does that tell you. read more

I come here about once a week (as I live right up the street) and haven't ever had any problems before so I'm taking that into account when I write this review. I came in tonight and bought some drinks and a Puff Bar. I took two steps out of the store and opened it up and it didn't work right out of the box. I walked back in and asked if I could get a new Puff Bar and the cashier pointed to a sign (written on a 3x5 piece of paper) that said no refunds or exchanges on Puff Bars. I even offered to meet him in the middle and offer him $5 for an exchange, and he asked if I could read the sign. I didn't want to cause a scene because I know everybody is going through it right now in 2020, but so am I, and now I'm out $10. Now that I'm home, I'm considering that I probably didn't even want a new one, because if they have a sign, they probably know that all or most of their Puff Bars are messed up. Sounds like a problem between the distributor and the store, but it shouldn't be the consumer's problem. Maybe consider taking them off the shelve or at least giving a verbal warning before charging any money for 'em. Get whatever you want here, but I know Puff Bars are popular right now, so maybe consider going somewhere else for a vape, or just buy a lottery ticket instead lmao. It left a bad taste in my mouth so I'm probably gonna walk the other way when choosing a liquor store in Hollywood. read more

To start off this place isn't the cheapest liquor store, but this place always has really unusual stuff, or at least uncommon. They have a lot of beers, soda and candy that are more on the uncommon side. Like they'll have all the Cheladas, not just the sal y lime or regular one. I noticed all the flavors of that Barefoot wine, which is cool cause often stores only have 1-2 flavors. Not impossible to find their stuff but not usually at other liquor stores or the grocery stores nearby. European candies and unusual American candies. Sometimes they have import sodas. I've come here a few times and gotten beers and picked a couple random things. Prices not bad but if you aren't getting something special then you might as well get it from somewhere else. At night, if you must walk or park there, I find it less sketchy to come through the door in the parking lot, and less sketchy overall than the 7Eleven at night. I'll pop in from time to time. read more

It's safe to come in this store and it's bettered the Nieghbor since the new owners took over very clean & great service

There's something kind of great about this place. I've always found what I needed (be it champagne, wine, or beer) and gotten out in a timely manner. The typical customer is really funnier rather than scary and should be appreciated. Pla(y)-Boy Liquor is perfect for exactly what it is, a neighborhood liquor store, though not necessarily where I would go to stock a party or find the widest selections of alcohol at the best prices. read more

I'm writing this review only to point out to those that don't understand why it is called Pla-Boy and NOT Playboy. Playboy is a registered trademark of Playboy enterprises. It is illegal to use the name Playboy for their store. So, how did they get around this? They named the store Pla-boy, and then used an image of a cocktail glass (which looks kinda like a "Y") between the "pla" and "boy". The result is people call it "Playboy", even though the legal name is in fact "Pla-Boy". Get it? As for the store - CVS across the street has better prices. read more

This is the best liquor store in the hood this section of Hollywood. Chino and the staff are top notch. Decent prices and a decent selection of your basic party needs. Everyone who lives within a 1/2 mile buys their booze here if they're smart. It's rarely over crowded though. They keep the line moving. You'll run into some interesting characters that come in here as customers. This neighborhood has everything in it from trannys, to punks, to bums, to yuppies, to sluts, to rockers, to gangstas, Everything you can think of is here. Plaboy is a staple of the neighborhood and the CVS down the street is tight too. Plaboy is way better than that piece of shit liquor store on Highland and Yucca (Highland liquor?). Fuck those guys, they are a rip off. Playboy is the Shit! read more

Was a time when I pretty much lived off of whatever I could get here or over at 7-11. As you might imagine, those were lean years but I always drop in for a pint when I'm in town. Nice local corner store. I mean I only come here for beer and liquor so who knows about the food and what not. You have Hugh Hefner to thank for the way PLA-BOY Liquor spell its name. In its glory days of the '60's, this store was so popular and attractted so much business, Hef sued them for using the name Playboy. Not sure what Hef is afraid of, they only sell poison water, not naked girls to the bankrupted souls. Anyways, the real story behind the PLA-BOY. Some of you yelpers are right, the martini glass was placed strategically to represent a Y, an act of defiance by the then owner after loosing the legal battle. The store is dark, dingy, and outdated. The past owners did nothing to improve the looks and feel, but rather they added elements of blight (bars on the windows and bullet proof glass). Another piece of Hollywood history destroyed. read more

Good people and decent selection. Some of the liquor is really cheap and this place is open late so it's a good place for a late nite run.

I lived on this corner Yucca/Wilcox in the late 80's early 90's. This was the HOTTEST spot in Hollywood, for drugs & violence! But, once inside Pla Boy, all was well!
