She was very welcoming and made everyone comfortable including my 2-year old daughter! :) Distilled her knowledge so it wasn't intimidating or got too much into the weeds given the crowd but when I wanted to geek out with her she definitely can and taught me a lot of new things! Château Pétrus & Friends Bordeaux Dinner w/ Christophe Émé | Friday, March 17th at 6:45pm OVER…read more$15,000 WORTH OF WINE by Ian Blackburn, Sommelier, Wine Entrepreneur, Wine Educator.  Well noted Chef Christophe Émé né Guide Michelin Étoile Restaurant Ortolan, Kass, Chef de Cuisine of legendary L'Orangerie prepared an impeccable, sumputous 6 course Menu Dégustation using Truffe Noire, Sevruga Caviar, etc. that was fit for royalty paired with extremely well known ultra premium Bordeaux wines.  What made for a very unusual pairing is not just having one wine but two of the same wine from the same vigneron but of two different years for a mini Vertical Wine Tasting that was so educational in being able to contrast and compare.   For me, having the privilege to dine many times on Chef Émé's rarified Nouvelle Cuisine Française is a sensory delight along with Ian Blackburn's selection of superlative wines. It reminds me of the heydays when Patina rocked with warm hospitality by Kevin & his kind staff, exquisite cuisine, paired wines by the incomparable  Silvestre Fernandes. I had reached out via email to inquire about their late policy due to our work schedules (I wanted to try to schedule the Valentine's Day booking but felt like it would be too late). Magdalena, one of the owners, had got back to me and responded that they were flexible and recommended the booking for the day after if it would better accommodate our schedules and that the Valentine's Day snack would be available to purchase, which was very reassuring for me. Upon our arrival, not only did they remember me from our one email communication, they had already set aside the Valentine's Day snacks for us. Very thoughtful! The wine selections were either for red or white for blending and cause my fiancée and I wanted to try the best of both worlds (we both had selected white initially), they were able to accommodate the change with no hesitation. Our instructor, Dave, was amazing and the guided class was full of fun information and neat anecdotes. The guided class was very helpful in identifying things to look for in wine which can contribute to certain attributes, like taste, sweetness and such. Very light-hearted and, again, an amazing experience. Highly recommend for a date night or those who just want to learn more about wine. Oh and they also let you cork your own bottle!

Monica has guided us every step of the way throughout this journey. Her depth of wine knowledge, teaching ability, and passion for the subject have given us the tools and confidence needed to succeed at every level. The in-person tastings have been especially valuable and instrumental in preparing for the challenging Diploma tasting exams. Monica does an excellent job helping students develop both their tasting technique and analytical skills. One of the best parts about studying at the Wine House is being able to purchase wines directly from their incredible selection to continue practicing and preparing outside of class. Having access to such a wide range of wines has made a huge difference in reinforcing what we learn and getting ready for the exams.

I started the diploma program with her a year or so ago, and I just found her preoccupied, not understanding or listening to questions being asked. I think maybe she doesn't like older students? Not sure as I have heard from other students in the diploma program that switched and went to Napa Valley Wine Academy that they also felt she wasn't great at this level. I did pass the 2 exams but felt I really needed more than I got from her, so ended up watching videos from WSG and taking mock exams from NVWA. I also asked for a copy of the pass grade for one of the exams but never received it from her. For the d6 paper she gave no input so I had to sign up for extra money with Anne McHale MW from London who really does an excellent job of guiding on the paper. I think if she decides she likes you are fine perhaps? But I felt that other APPs put in more effort, really listen to you and offer more in-person or zoom classes to help you pass for the same price.

Our hosts, husband and wife team Chris and Christy, were warm and welcoming from the start. Chris' wine pairings and explanations complemented the insanely delicious food perfectly, and were educational yet unpretentious. They graciously accommodated all dietary restrictions and served a beautiful 5 course meal (with gorgeous wine pairings, of course). Having an intimate dinner with strangers was also a delight! We cheers'ed, laughed, bonded, ate and drank to our hearts' content and had a total blast. Looking forward to another special evening with Home Somm in the near future! A Home Somm dinner would also make a wonderful gift for anyone (who likes food and good times)!

Weekly selection and drop off of some amazing wines - all with a high quality to price ratio which is important to me. I entertain a lot, but really enjoy most of my wine with meals. 1855 finds the best 'everyday' table wines that are super inexpensive and super good! But when I need something special, Aaron always delivers an incredible wine. I've ordered everything from Meomi to Dom. 1855 gets it for me cheaper than I'd typically pay and I get it delivered to my door! The lead consultant, Aaron began my membership with doing an inventory of my existing wine cellar (less than 5 cases) and marking the ones ready to drink now, those that should lay down, and those that absolutely need time. He helped set up my storage so all bottles are kept in the best condition and will drink at their best when I open them. I'm looking forward to my next project with 1855 - helping me buy and arrange specialized wine glassware for my home. I also hear they do great events, and I'm looking for the right opportunity to have them enhance one of my open houses or brokers opens. Great service model and incredible wine! This was the first location and it's also the largest. The selection is vast and there are some great wines and spirits available for purchase - including some coveted bottles of Fortaleza Tequila. The evening's line up featured French natural wine from Bob Singlar - 4 tastings for $20. Much like the other two stores the staff here are friendly and knowledgeable about the pours. They had a nice turnout including some locals who gather here on a weekly basis. I enjoyed conversing with them and meeting some of their fur babies. Then I guess when the people start piling up one at a time, maybe you will. Your staff is relentlessly miserable which is fine, but now they are agreessively mouthy. Had a run in the other day with some ''what appears to be'' a teenager who called himself "Second in charge" working the register. When I griped about my 14.50 TUNA fish sandwich and how you are now charging EXTRA for SUBSTITUTING a different kind of cheese on your sandwiches - I told my girlfriend "Lets get the F**% outta here. He overheard, and wielded his authority to TRY and order me to leave the store . . . . while i was already doing so, and in a very aggressive fashion. Not that it was any of HIS business on my conversation to my girlfriend. He's quite lucky this was not done outside your storefront. This is the same miserable little man who on a previous recent occasion was in a heated political debate with one of his co-workers while ringing up my sandwich giving his views on the current President in his workspace. Professionalism at its finest. The sandwich makers have scowls on their faces 24/7, they groan and gripe when you request a piece of bread that's not an "end piece" or even request an alteration of any sort. I have paid the listed prices and come back out of convenience to your location, but truth be told - there are COUNTLESS places to grab good sandwiches within the square mile. The "Experience" is abhorrent at this point and your staff tells me YOU now only come in after 3:00PM on any given day un-announced and they basically "Are in charge". Well, guess what? READ THE REVIEWS closely here and on other TrustPilot type platforms. You as the business owner need to monitor them better.
