Panino di salume e formaggio. Simple but scrumptious.

Paninis taken to a new elevation! Order at the counter, and most likely eat standing wherever you can find a place. Antonio will likely offer advice--take it. He knows his stuff.

I'm not sure why this place is classified as a "cheese store" on yelp as when you walk in here there's meat hanging everywhere (not to be photographed). Located near the lovely center of Siena, Pizzicheria De Miccoli serves up their signature roast pork porchetta sandwich made is made out of the many local wild boar that roam the countryside...this is definitely a type of meat I've never had before...there's a medley of savory boar fat, savory roasted skin, and tough and tender meat. As such, there's nothing else served with meat in the sandwich other than just the bread bread. This is also a large sandwich and one meant to be shared. Since there is no room inside, you'll have to settle with standing outside near one of the wooden barrels as a makeshift table. If you want something that is definitely of Tuscany this is a must try!

Our visit to De Miccoli was a highlight of our week in Tuscany! I'm so glad we stopped in here and will definitely return next time I'm in Siena! Once we stepped inside, we were enthusiastically greeted by Antonio and crew. I think they guessed us for food lovers pretty quickly because next thing I knew, we had a bottle of Prosecco and a meat and cheese board set up right outside the shop. HOLY. SMOKES. This was INSANELY delicious. The prosciutto was the best I've ever had in my life. The porchetta was the best I've ever had in my life (although the best porchetta sandwich I've ever had still lives at Roscioli in Rome). The fresh olive tapenade was the best I've ever had in my life. The white cheese with jarred truffles was insane. And omg the bread. THE BREAD. bacon and cheese amazing bread! This was the most delectable tray of treats we had in our entire time in Tuscany. Absolutely stellar. Antonio even gave of some homemade plum sauce from plums he grew in his garden. After finishing up our tray, we went back inside and shopped for yummy souvenirs. They boxed up our food and threw in extra bread, tapenade, bottles of water, sundried tomatoes, and plum sauce. We chatted and laughed and felt like we made a new best friend. I can't eat to go back! Managing expectations: there are no tables here. I believe they close at 8pm.

Not to be missed if you are a cured meat lover and purist!! Rustic and classically Italian if you're looking for the true cured meat experience lunch this is one of the last remaining enclave that will serve you the true homemade stunning cured meats in Siana and general surroundings. When you walk in the shop the first thing that hits you is the amazing smell of the drying cured meats hanging on the ceiling by the hundreds. Next is the site of the proprietor typically provincial Italian look and master of his craft. Fortunately they spoke very good English so it was easy to order a sample of the cured meat and Panini. In the order they included a half bottle of Rosso Di Montalcino, bread olive oil and spread - finishing the meal with a glass of Vin Santo and biscotti. This was the luncheon I have been dreaming about since planning this trip!

When you walk by you'll immediately notice the red furry door divider danglers that are very compelling to touch. And upon closer inspection, you'll see a sign that says "NO FOTO." There's also a bust of a boar with some smart spectacles on that made me think the space was very Harry Potter-esque. We had lunch here, and when you walk through the furry door danglers, it's like you walked into the Narnia closet but for a salumeria. The cured meat smell just hits you and you're tempted to just stand in the small space all day just breathing it in. It's dimly lit and quite romantic as well. However, it really only fits about 8 standing adults comfortably, so you'll have to order and then get out. No photos inside either. We got the recommended Porchetta sandwich and paid 8 Euros for a large sandwich. Eagerly, we took it outside to eat and saw that it was just bread and large chunks of meat. While good, I would've preferred it to have some sort of cheese to go with it. Bread was fantastic too. Since Siena is such a small town, I don't forsee us coming back, but in case we do, I'd try a different sandwich.

What an amazing find! We just happened to walk by and saw several people pile into a small little store with meat hanging in it's window. WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! We had a "cutting board" for 2 with some red wine. Be prepared to be dazzled!

Live in Brooklyn and like to think I've had high quality Italian meat/cheese. Damn. Walk into tiny shop with all kinds of meats hanging around you. The smell is unreal. Had the apertivo aposto for two with 5 distinct pork and boar products including porchetta, all as fresh and tender as you can have. A couple of cheeses, shaved truffles, bit of pesto and crusty bread. About 20 euros. A steal. They place it on a butcher block and you stand in the street and eat and remind yourself how lucky you are.

Tucked right in the heart of Siena's Piazza del Campo, near the Palazzo Pubblico, La Trofea…read moredelivers what I can only call my redemption day for pizza in central Italy. After trying a few slices in Rome that didn't quite live up to the hype, I finally found what I was looking for here. This place completely reset my expectations. The moment you approach the counter, you're greeted by a fast-moving, slightly intimidating but clearly experienced staff member calling out "buongiorno" while listing off sandwiches and pizzas. It's a bit of controlled chaos, but in the best way. I had already spotted exactly what I wanted before stepping inside, so I walked straight in, pointed, and said, "this one." It caught him off guard--in a good way. He quickly told me it was pepperoni with spicy peppers, which sounded perfect. Within minutes it was heated and ready on the counter. I grabbed a quick photo because it genuinely looked worth remembering, then took my first bite--and it delivered immediately. The pizza was served hot, but not so hot that it overwhelmed the palate. The flavor came through cleanly at first, then the heat from the small red peppers slowly built with every bite. That balance of spice and savoriness is exactly what makes a simple slice memorable. It was excellent. The shop itself is small but efficient, with some indoor seating that's perfect for escaping Siena's chilly air--and probably even better on the rainy days that are coming. Everything about it feels like a quick, no-frills stop that somehow still manages to stand out in a city full of incredible food. I'll likely be back again after visiting the cathedral. Five
