Margherita pie
Katie L.

Amazing pizza in the shadows of the ethereal Sacre Coeur. It's tucked into a row of quaint restaurants on a quiet side street right next to the Basilica. So whilst Montmarte, a short 10 minutes away, is a bustling town with all types of restaurants and cafes, this pizzeria feels like a nice reprise from the maddening hordes. It's an extension of the peace and calm you'd just experienced inside Sacre Coeur. While waiting for a friend, I decided to satiate cravings I've been having for more Western fare. I went with a whole 10" pie, which I thought would be too much, but it was the perfect size for a solo diner. The Margherita pie was a classic, with toppings made up of a slightly sweet tomato sauce, mozzarella and sprinkling of fresh basil. The crust was thin and well-done, reminiscent of a good NYC slice. I had no qualms about downing the whole thing myself. The herbs-infused olive oil was also fragrant and a great add-on to the pizza. Do yourself a favor and seek out this gem!

A tiny place that has lots of charm. The tables are small and some of the chairs too hard (no cushioning) but the staff are really friendly and take care of you well. They need to carry butter for the bread and speed up the making of the pizza--but boy is it a good pizza. The crust was perfect and the one I had with sausage and mushrooms had excellent flavor. Prices are a bit high here for the run down decor and lack comfortable seating and odd restroom.

Such a quaint little wonder. Probably no bigger than a bedroom, with seating for about 26 chairs. Not including the outside, but I give it to the staff as they shuffle over one another to serve the customers. The food was top notch and the staff was even better. The flavors were fresh and hard to beat. The cheese , meats and veggies were fresh and flavorful. I couldn't complain about anything.

This place was a gem, great find! was delicious. We ordered the half pies and boy am I glad. It is huge! But I can see why many would opt for a full pie. It was extremely good! Comparable dare I say, to New York (I am a born and bred New Yorker!) I ordered the Jamon pie, my bf ordered the veggie pie with mozzarella since it was a naked pie!

We stumbled upon this restaurant in 2018 while walking around Mont Marte and Sacre Coeur... and we are so glad that we did! We are planning a trip back to Paris in July 2021, and this was the very first restaurant we talked about revisiting. It's almost magical, sitting outside, and the food is outstanding. I had the pizza with scallops and pepperoni (in the US we call it pepperoni, but I cant remember if it is called the same in French). So delish! My husband had the carbonara which was also excellent. The tiramisu may have been the best I have ever had.

A pizza using black truffle as the base!

Making the decision to dine near major tourist destinations can be fraught with hazards. As such, I never would have expected to find a thoroughly excellent Italian restaurant sited in the shadow of Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Pizzeria Babalou is located amongst a handful of other restaurants and shops, and at first glance there isn't a lot from the sidewalk that would set it apart from the various other restaurants in the area. Upon opening the door though, I knew that me and my friends were in for a treat. Bric-a-brac are tastefully adorned along the walls and on shelves. Seating is close and personal, just like the best true Italian restaurants. My group started our lunch off right with a superb bottle of Montepulciano from Abruzzo while we perused the menu. There are the requisite pizzas, a no-brainer of course, but Babalou also excels in pastas, which included two different raviolis of the day. Everything is hand-made with love, and the results really show. While my dining companions opted for pizza, I ordered the pesto ravioli with spinach and goat cheese. Homemade pesto is usually the best pesto, and from the bursting-at-the-seams level of flavour present in the dish, I knew it was the real deal. I also took nibbles off of my wife's order, a special pizza of the day that included a base of black truffle paste. Best pizza ever? Babalou is easily a contender for the crown. Normally a smorgasbord at this level would make dessert a distance possibility. Fortunately the hills and steps of Montmartre had made our appetites substantial, further necessitating the Nutella calzone. Yes, it's a homemade, hand-crafted calzone oozing with Nutella. The crust was cooked slightly beyond golden brown, adding a wonderful crunch to the dessert. When the cheque came, there was no need to worry, as the total for both entrees was a measly €27, a small sum for a pizza made of black truffles! The service came with a genuine smile, and for all you tourists out there, the staff is multi-lingual. While Pizzeria Babalou is a wonderful retreat from the crowds of Sacré-Cœur, the stand-out food makes it worth a visit on its own.

I utilized Yelp for my entire 2 week vacation in Paris and it never let us down. We went to Pizzeria Babalou based on the reviews and we were so glad we did. The gentleman did not speak much English and my French is very basic. The woman spoke perfect English and was absolutely lovely. We ordered the Capretta Pizza and the woman suggested we order the 1/2 and get a salad on the side because it was just me and my 6 year old son, which we did and it was PERFECT. The best pizza I have ever had in my life. It was so good we went back a second time and the woman remembered us. I recommended it to everyone that asked me for restaurant suggestions. Not to be missed!!

A few feet from the steps of Sacre Coeur is the gem of a pizza place. The service is quick and friendly and the pizza is FRESH. We ordered a white pizza with Speck and mushrooms and a plain pizza with the freshest mozzarella I have ever had. Don't be afraid to order a pie per person and take your time to eat it. You will burn all the calories by walking those steps near the church!

Hidden on a quiet street behind the Montmartre Basilica, this small pizzeria has a few outdoor tables to enjoy a glass of wine and a great pizza. The owners are engaging and helpful. A nice midday stop!

Closer to 3.5 but really great staff and service so I had to round up. The waitress explained the menu to us in English and was really friendly. We ordered: Di Parma pizza- thin crust pizza with slices of prosciutto(?) and arugula salad. Good size and portion. Truffle ravioli- 3/5 good, not excellent. Total = ~€28

First time to Paris, we only stayed in the city for 3 days on our Europe tour but came to this place TWICE! That's how amazing it is!! I love their half pizza, half salad. The restaurant is very quaint. This place is something you write home to mom about. The staff are extremely friendly and the waiter explains the whole menu.

This was another great small restaurant!! If you do not know French, just take a few more minutes to explain what you want. The female owner knows basic English and she will take your order. We had the pizza, lasagna (it was DELICIOUS!!!) and tiramisu. Everything was great!!

I ordered the Quattro formaggi and drizzled a whole bunch of their spicy oil on it and it was absolutely delicious!

I haven't stopped thinking of this meal since I've left Paris. They say that all Italian food in…read moreParis is good because you're so much closer to Italy but Dulcinea really stood out. First off, they're open 24/7. Who could beat that since most of Paris closes fairly early on the weekends. We came here at 9pm on a Sunday. I highly recommend ordering from their specials menu. I got a Gorgonzola + black truffle cream pasta and my boyfriend got the calamari pasta. They were both so out of this world delicious. So glad we decided to try out this hole in the wall!!! We also didn't order a pizza, but their pizzas looked so delicious. I kept eyeing the guy next to me's pizza. Now the ambiance is great, it's not spacious in there, but it's always packed and that's a great sign. And it's not a bad packed, it's a comfy packed! The staff also speaks English but they're also happy when you practice your French. 10/10 would recommend

Wow, hate to write a negative review, but this was without doubt the worst meal of our 6 day stay…read morein Paris and 16 days in France. Reading the other reviews, we thought we would have a pleasant dining experience, but the atmosphere, food and service were poor. We dined here ahead of a show at the Moulin Rouge. Service was slow, uncaring and inattentive. The pasta was gummy. Really there was nothing here enjoyable. The diners at the tables on either side of of us were loud, rude and using foul language. I have no pictures to post as there was nothing worth taking a picture of. We experienced nothing like this anywhere else in France. This was a wasted evening of dining and money
