The food is delicious. Fresh and healthy snacks without having to feel like a stuffed piñata afterwards. Our first dish was the Tulum. I was nervous about the raw octopus but it wasn't too strong at all. Thinly sliced and mixed with fish, guacamole, and very sweet Carmelized onions. This is a delicious snack to split with your partner. We then had the Cameron Roca - shrimp tempura drizzled with spicy sauce. This is definitely a "safer" option for those with more plain palettes. Finally we had the, Seafood tower - an off menu item that contains pretty much everything on the menu combined, served in a glorious high tower. This is pretty much enough food for two people by itself, so be careful if you're trying to keep it healthy. Either try everything on the menu, or try it all with the seafood tower. But doing both can be a dangerous proposition. Finally the drinks were fantastic. Perfect spicy margheritas that don't skimp on ingredients. I was pleasantly surprised seeing the bill at the end considering all of the food and drink we have received. Walking la Quinta it would have easily been triple the price, and probably not early as good.

The new favorite restaurant in Cozumel…read more After being horrified by how my old favorite from 20+ years ago has turned into a comically overpriced tourist trap, I asked some workmen out on the street where they would suggest for lunch. La Candela -- just a block or so down a side street -- was the answer. It was an absolutely excellent lunch (specialty dishes of seafood and of breaded stuffed chicken). The service was terrific, and the atmosphere, even on a warm day, was very pleasant, with a breeze through the open window and a grotto looking onto the street -- seaside Mexico at its finest. One diner's food arrived incredibly hot, and the waiter very entertainingly pretended to be about to blast it with a fire extinguisher (he did not -- the diner, a solo traveler reading a book, was very amused, and her food looked great). I'm not in Cozumel as often as I used to be, but if/when I am, this is where I'll be going (and I'll have to try the tacos, which I'm told are even better than the grilled chicken and fish entrees.... and also try the breakfast).

I walked by later when it was diner time and asked if i could have a seat near the front to watch the action. My experience here on my first night of six in this city, had me coming back every single day. Whether for tacos, ceviche, grilled pulpo, crab soup or chips and salsa with a drink or two. Nacho and the other staff were by far the friendliest on my entire trip and made me feel at home everytime I stopped in or even walked by, which was a few times a day.
