The parrillada (grill) for $1200 MX pesos was enough for 3 people. It was very good and we liked everything in it, except I thought the blood sausage (Morcilla) was only average. The choripán (Argentine style chorizo) was good but did not really come with the authentic bread, like other establishments. I felt the chorizo lacked a bit of flavor. De Local is awesome!!! I love that they make their fettuccine noodles in house. Whenever I come here I always get a fettuccine chicken alfredo and a pizza. Their alfredo sauce is so creamy..when paired with their homemade fettuccine noodles, PERFECTION for my taste buds. Their pepperoni pizza is also very good!!! The shangri-la Milenesa was insanely good. It's juicy steak breaded and friend. And then served with chipotle sauce, onions, cheese, and bacon. The caramelized onions play well with the chipotle. I run every morning on 5th street and I always slow down just a little bit to smell the fresh bread that's baking at De Local. This is how I actually found out about this restaurant! Underrated but so so worth it to go!! We got in and immediately got seated. The front patio is super cute and it's better to sit there than inside because it gets hot with the wood oven. We ordered 3 empanadas and the Shangri-la milanesa for 2 people and it was a LOT of food! We had to take half the milanesa home! The bread they provide at the beginning of the meal was some of the best bread I've had! Omg soo goood. The empanadas are amazing - we got the caprese, de local and spanish chorizo. De Local was def our favourite! Especially with a little bit of their chimichuri sauce. Our waiter recommended the Shangri-La Milanesa and we were not disappointed AT ALL! It was breaded beef with chipotle sauce on top, caramelized onions, cheese, bacon pieces and two eggs. This was SO GOOD!!!!! Beautiful place to eat love the ambiance but the food was mediocre. The family order empanadas, pizzas and pasta this was our first meal in PDC mmm not my favorite for pasta the noodles I think were handmade but weren't rolled properly so they had this strange chewy texture. The sauce tasted similar to a canned sauce so I can't say I'd recommend eating any of the pastas. My empanada was a little toasty but I can looked past that but it was dry and doughy as well. The pizza on the other had was rolled well and had a good crust not fantastic but good. The server didn't seem to bust but he was struggling keeping up with our needs I waited for a half an hour to order a lemonade into the meal and finally had to give up on it. Overall I'd give this spot a 50/50 depending on what you order and maybe time of day. read more

Piola may have the most well-known pizza in Playa, but De Local could seriously give it a run for their money. The namesake 'De Local' pizza comes with chorizo, onions and a hearty helping of chilis on a perfectly charred, buttery crust that would bring an Italian to tears. While their small pizzas are more expensive than Piola (~160 vs. ~110 pesos), the large pizzas are actually cheaper! If you have three people it's a steal to split, and you'll walk away stuffed with leftovers. They also provide some fantastic bread and homemade dips that are soooooo good I practically begged them for more! read more

First the good stuff. Location is excellent right across from a great little music and wine venue called Off the Vine. You can hear their music when you are at this restaurant unless the worlds worst drummer sets up right at the corner of Calle 40 and Quinta Avenida. We have had the pizza which is pretty typical of most pizzas but disappointing in that they have a wood fired oven, which should produce great results but the pizza doesn't quite reach the level of a place just a couple blocks away. The empanadas are nice and flavorful, and the service is very good at least in our experience. What we could not manage to stomach was the Milanesas. We had never had this before, and we never will again. We took two bites and couldn't continue. The staff was good and brought out some empanadas to take its place. read more

This little spot was right across from our condo, so we ate there a couple of times. The service here is great, the hostess is so sweet and friendly, we talked with her a lot, and she said the pizza is the best. She was right, it's super good right out of the brick oven all gooey and crispy, yum! Also, on one night we had the skirt steak. Used to be on point sadly it's going down. After being a frequent customer for more than 5 years in a roll every time I come back is like they never knew me and it's getting worse and worse day by day. Service and food. And today was really, really bad. Usually the service is bad and all the waiters are mean and stiff, I honestly used to come back because of the good food but now, not even. I have to say that today was over the top of what one could bear when you go and decide to pay for food at a restaurant. More than one hour to wait for a Milanesa, after al the food we ordered was served the Milanesa never came, we never complaint about it and after more than one hour at the place this non-polite waiter comes and says some excuse "we had a technical problem with the Milanesa, and it ill come asap" and when it came (more than one hour and a half after ordered and about to close the kitchen, and guess what? It was the wrong one!! We always come and order the same stuff as they never knew I never ordered anything like that, anyways, my bad, but after I stood up and talked to the waiter not to bring the Milanesa and not even mention it cause it already was a problem at our table, guess what? He came and made the issue even worse. When they realized how bad they played they desperately tried to make things right, too late. They tried and invite me to a dessert while I was specifically writing this review cause they obviously could feel that they did very wrong and no one was having a comfortable experience at their place at this right moment and he could have avoided it. Again I tried to give back the milanesa cause it was almost midnight and honestly I was too pissed off to eat and I didn't want it anymore but still they forced me to take it to go. Outraging behavior when they know me cause I come by or order delivery or take away more than twice a week. Sad but true. For ending this review I must also say that last time I ordered delivery the milanesa was definitely not as it should be (it was dry, short of all ingredients and cold). Today was sure my last time at De Local. I'm not coming back again or order online and I am a LOCAL from here but trust me you can get better food as a local for that money and way sure better service! At De Local, the food is decent. If you are Argentinian! If you are not from Argentina, beware. I know this sounds strange, and it might be a bit different from most restaurant reviews you have read. I have never been treated this poorly, nearly sub-human, in a restaurant in my entire life. Our meal was decent but nothing to be proud of. Later, after our meal and during dessert, we heard the owner and some friends mumbling about "those damn Americans" or something along these lines. They were making their distaste for a table of American patrons quite obvious. Bizarre! We were behaving normally and were very receptive to the waiter, we tipped 25% and were treated with absolute disgust and vehement hatred. Apparently, the owner of this restaurant and his buddies really hate Americans. With a passion that borders on insanity. So, if you are from the US or UK, stay away from this establishment! It is intended for Argentinians only, and if you dare to patronize this place, prepare to be treated rudely and to have your food delivered to you in sub-par fashion. All due to the fact that you aren't 100% pure Argentinian in ethnicity. This was a strange restaurant experience, I liken it to being African American in the deep South in the Civil Rights era. Every restaurant I have ever dined at in the past, during my entire lifespan, was greeted with at the very minimum, cordial relations and no "anti-American" bias whatsoever. Ran into this place by accident and so glad we did. Wanted out of the hustle and noise of 5th and just started waking. The adorable hostess got our attention but since we had just had dinner promised we would be back the next night. We returned and it was SO worth it. Our waiter , Santiago, is our most favorite of all in Playa with a smile that even melted my husband . The food was beyond great! The sauces they give you with your bread were an explosion of flavor. The salad, appetizer, and meal we shared was so impressive we booked our New Year's Eve reservation that night. The portions are very generous and the quality and flavor are out of this world. Have been here 4 times and we always order the same thing. The Milanesa de Pollo, with fries and a large house salad, as together they are truly enough to share. Only one time was the Milanesa (schnitzel) greasy and tough, but otherwise nice and crispy and flavorful. We usually put a little of the salad on top, Italian style Tri Colore.
