January 13/2025: Dinner with Al/Clem/Red. This was an alright dinner with a goodish ambiance. The server "Moses" was a very nice, polite & patient fellow. He delivered solid service, 5-Star. It rained during our meal so that did have an impact. As for the meal...it was a 3-Star at best. My appie was Bruschetta Pastorall ($147P). It was hot in flavour & decent tasting as well. My main was Chicken Parmesan with a creamy spaghetti ($379p + $75p for the spaghetti). They were good but not great. They SHOULD have been great for a $31.50 Cdn entree. And even though I asked in writing to have the meal extra hot...it was barely warm enough to NOT send back to the kitchen. This seems to be where most restaurants in the area drop the ball...taste & food temperature. Even though I ranked this a 4-star it's not really one...it's more like a 3.5. The restaurant is located off the newer end of 5th Avenue where restaurants are more upscale and the presence of street sellers is much less. The ambience is great. You feel like you are eating in a jungle. Most of the seating is outdoors but the jungle blocks views to and from the street. We went for thin crust pizza. The crust in fact very thin. I think my Mailina could have been in the oven a bit longer to brown more. I did not detect any sausage although the description said there should be. The wife got the Napoli and liked it. We started with Caprese salad. It was excellent. Best (most fresh tasting) I ever had. Service was inattentive. There was one guy who was waiter and street recruiter. Cute restaurant on 38th!!! I came here last night because Piola is near my AirBnb and I wanted an espresso martini after a long day of work. Luis was the bartender who helped me and he was super nice and made a fantastic espresso martini!!! I had three espresso martinis and it tasted great!!! I wasn't going to get any food but I sat in the middle of two people who ordered pizzas and the pizza looked really good. Before heading out I ordered a small brooklyn pizza and the bianco verde pasta. Both the pizza and the pasta were wonderful!!! The brooklyn pizza consists of chicken, broccoli, and blue cheese. I am not usually a blue cheese fan but the blue cheese worked on the pizza. Yummy!!! The bianco verde pasta consists of chicken, broccoli, and cream sauce. It was also very good. I think I might be back tonight or within the week to get myself a couple more espresso martinis and food!!! read more

Short and convenient walk from our hotel. Happy they could accommodate our large group without a reservation as well. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Searing offered both inside and out was great too. My basil martini was out of this world delicious! Would def come back for it. I was not however wowed by the food. I don't understand why people rave about this place. It was across from the Airbnb I was staying so I ended up coming here twice. The first time I got fettuccine Alfredo, the second time a Hawaiian Pizza. The pasta was acceptable but average. Of the 6 Italian restaurants I ordered this dish at in 3 weeks this was was the most bland. For better Italian highly suggest going to Dolce Salato or Trattoria de Centro on 5th Ave & 26 Calle, or Ray David on 10th Ave and 30th Calle. Those were the 3 best places. The pizza was acceptable but bland. The crust lacked olive oil or something to give it flavor. Yes the sauce was correct but it just didn't taste like the pizza I've had in Italy or in San Francisco and I'm not quite sure why people rave about it so much. I guess for Mexico it is decent, I didn't try pizza at the other 3 Italian restaurants mentioned above so I can't compare as easily. read more

My friend was on the hunt for a good margarita (sin sour mix - without pre made sour mix) So we found this little place a few days before we came here to eat just to grab a margarita. At that time it was 2 for 1 and they went down a treat for my friend whilst I had a soda (wasn't in the mood for drinking that night) So we returned a few days later since she loved the margaritas (and it's been hard finding an authentic and good one around) and she's been craving pizza for the past week. Me - not so much. Living in NYC has afforded me a very encompassing pizza experiences - so I'm very lucky. We started with margaritas before ordering. This time I joined in. The cool thing is that we both have different style margaritas and they both came out wonderful. She has her traditional whilst I have mine without sugar (no health reasons... I just am not a a fan of sugar and it doesn't sit well on my tummy) Clearly made with the Smokey aromas of a mezcal my friends was a classic margarita whilst mine had no sugar. Delicious - although my friend would think otherwise "too sour" was written all over her face - haha, but I thought it was tart and delicious - so I had 2...3! She had 2 margaritas and 2 Dos Equis (draft) We met some people from the states who got stuck in Playa during COVID and a lovely gentleman from Canada who decided to spend a month in Playa after a friends wedding (because that is a great idea! - esp if you can work from home) Now.. to the food - which is why I only left 3 stars. The pizza lacked a few elements that I desire for a thin style pizza. The flakey crust was burnt and crumbled while the base that lifted the toppings wasn't fully cooked and lacked the dexterity to hold the pizza without using two hands. I would have expected for flavor in the toppings with more basil as suggested in the menu pictures online but alas there was none. As for the eggplant parmigiana- which was nicely priced (MX$170-190, less than USD$10), it was so underwhelming because of its lack of cooking time. It wasn't fully cooked leaving it inedible - that is my only pitfall for the dish itself - if it were cooked fully it would have been lovely as the flavors were all there. But it's hard to chew on uncooked flavorful eggplant. Nonetheless, worth the stop. Maybe you can ask for it to be sent back and cooked further but I decided to take it home and cook it myself. Service was quick and delightful. Good energy and clean space. Would return again for the margaritas but probably not for the food. But I'm a pizzasnob so there's that. I do however subscribe to the idea that everyone has their own idea of what good food is to them. So if this food rocks your world - then I'm definitely not about to Yuck your yum! Cheers! read more

While in tulum, wanted something different other than mexican food. Had pizza and drinks. - What I tried: Mushroom pizza. Can't go wrong with mushroom pizza. The place stands out. First, when you just walk down the street and see all the festive multicolored lights.... the happy atmosphere just lures you in. And then you see the menu and have a taste of the food, experience the friendliest service, and you never want to leave. Everything we tried was great. Pizza had a very thin crust and was delicious. The fettuccine Alfredo was a perfect al dente. The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. The tiramisu desert was fantastic. (Yes, we went here three times - had to keep trying new dishes.) Came here around 2pm on a Tuesday. We got the cheese pizza and a meat pizza with sausage and pepperoni. Both pizzas were absolutely loaded with cheese but had just a skim of tomato sauce. For me, I like more of a balance of cheese + tomato sauce. The meat pizza's pepperoni was low quality, probably Hormel pepperoni, so it didn't have a lot of fat to contribute (not that we needed it with all the cheese). The sausage was yummy. The atmosphere was OK but not great. There are way cuter restaurants along Calle 38 Norte with better outdoor feels. Then the price... it was pretty spendy for what it was. We got two beers also and it was $40 USD. A block down the day before we got 3 entres and 3 drinks which were all much higher quality (one with a heaping of yummy shrimp) for $46 USD incl. tip. Overall I'm extremely surprised by the 4 1/2 stars on Yelp. We just happened upon this place and I was expecting a 3 star average when I went to write the review. read more

Best pizza in Playa. They have a huge clay oven in the back that fires up properly charred thin crusts. They go easy on the sauce so their best pies have a lot of toppings. The pastorella is my favorite, but with the habanero sauce it may not be for every palette! The maialina is a meaty bounty, and the Roma, while unusual with the purple garlic and lime drops, is quite satisfying. There's two sizes for pizzas, and most smalls (10-inch) are around 100-115 pesos, with the larges (16-inch) topping 200 pesos. Even if you're famished, a small could accommodate two people. They give you a free bruschetta when you sit down, so that is usually enough to satisfy! Also, basil margaritas. read more

My husband had the lasagna and I had the fettuccine alfredo. I have not had al dente pasta cooked right in 10 years, and I stuffed my face. The Alfredo sauce was thick and creamy, but not too thick or thinned out either. His lasagna was full of flavor, but not overbearing and just the right portion for us. Our hotel is pretty close by. Walking distance and to get to 5th ave, we pass this place. It's our last night here & our 3rd pizza. We've always taken it back to our hotel since we end up here when we don't know what to eat and are too lazy to find a place 1st time; Hawaiian - cheese, pineapple, huge slices of ham on a thin crust! Idk if it's cause we're in a different place but the cheese is so good! The pizza is so good and their chili oil makes it even better! 2nd time; the Mexican - poblano peppers, chorizo = AMAZING!!!
