Well, as luck would have it, there was a parking spot across the street on Thursday night around 7 p.m. Finally, tried this place! Food = great. Salad Intermezzo (little gems, chicories, butter lettuce, carrot, cucumber, chickpeas, farm egg, radish with poppy seed dressing) = delicious. What a refreshing salad. Granted, I'd skip the chickpeas next time, as I'm not a big fan of it. Definitely glad I asked about the sizing, because the medium was more than enough for the two of us. Medium, $7.36 (Gigante $13.79 and it's not a lie! It would probably feed 3-4!) Marinara (dry-farmed early girl tomatoes, garlic, oregano, arbequina olive oil, alderwood smoked salt, grana padano) = thin crust, great sauce, light on the cheese. $11.95 Yo Vinny! (marinated onions, Mama Lil's pickled goat horn peppers, house-made hot italian sauce, tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, grana padano) = thin crust with a great combination of sweet, salty, and tangy. Excellent sausage. $16.55 Everything appears to be locally sourced, and they even offer Mitchell's ice cream for dessert. Soft drinks = we had a coca cola and ginger ale (ginger ale was very light and reminded me of sparking apple more than ginger) $2.76 x2 Service = friendly! Decor = 4-tops, bench seating and chairs. But you can share the tables for 6-8 people, or just be friendly with your dining neighbors. Gotta love the chalkboard for waitlist and their menu. Yes, it gets noisy in here. And they will play loud music, too. You've been warned. Prices = moderate. Dinner for two came out to $45.00 with leftovers. Hours are Tuesday to Sunday 5 pm to 10 pm. I've eaten here twice. I would have been three times, but the first time hubs and I tried to go, there was a sign out front that indicated that they had run out of pizza dough. Hey, it happens. That shit is fresh. SO! The verdict: good stuff, man. The pizza is tastilicious with all those blackened crust bubbles that lesser establishments tamp down with those rolly pokey things. WHY GOD WHY would you prevent those glorious bubbles? Yeah, so it's basically super delicious and fresh neopolitan. Go classic if that's what floats yer boat (they have margherita and other faves like that) or get something CRAZY with, like, I dunno, SPANISH CHORIZO. Delish. Taste buds of the bay area rejoice. Pretty good pizza. The one to remember had dandelions in it. Thought it'd be a bit strange since I never had dandelions before even though I was aware that people eat them. It was pretty good I must say. Good mix of flavors too. The pizza is on the thinner side of crust just for you to keep that in mind. The white sauce on the pizza is good. I became a fan back when the Hacker was making pizzas on his rigged Weber grill on Folsom St and then in a bar off Divisadero. I want to preface by saying that I'm not much of a pizza guy. I know that's sacrilege - everybody loves pizza, right? - but it's not my junk food of choice. Too many carbs. I hate the post-greasy-pizza nausea that follows. Thanks for shaking my disbelief, Pizzahacker. My fiancee and I are food snobs in our own right. She's really into freshness and flavor, and I'm obsessed with food pairings (i.e. Cilantro+Avocado+Lime). We ordered three pizzas - the Yo Vinny!, "Top Shelf" Margherita, and the Rocket Man - and, goodness gracious, it was awesome. There's a lot of good food in the Bay Area but there's something really special about this place. Everything tastes homemade and in the good way. The really good way. Behind us were shelves of onions, peppers, and olives that they were marinating/pickling.. They make the cheese fresh every two days. The chorizo (which is the best I've ever had) is imported from Spain. There's a lot of shortcuts you can take in food preparation, for both convenience and cost, and Pizzahacker totally disregards that and serves you handcrafted love. Ryan, our server, was the man. Not only was he super friendly and helpful, he was a blast to talk to and he genuinely wanted us to try how good his restaurant's pizza was. Here are Ryan's recommendations and they will blow your mind: 1) Get the "Yo Vinny!" with Spanish chorizo and use the fresh chili sauce at the table. 2) Get the "Rocket Man" with an extra farm egg. I'm from New Jersey and a bit of a pizza snob. Yes, the name of this place is a bit dopey. That said, this place is now probably my favorite pizza place in SF. I always get the Purple Rain which is tasty, delicious, bubbly, sweet and salty perfection. The cheese, the sauce, the sweet purple tomatoes....(((((drool))))). I love the thin crust with bits of sea salt on it. I like the kid-friendliness of the place and the bill is always cheaper than when we go to other pizza places in the city. I only wish perhaps that it weren't so noisy inside. It can get quite loud. Also one of my sons is gluten intolerant and sadly they don't have gluten free options. So I can only go when my oldest son isn't eating with me. When we are all together as a family we are forced to go to Paxti's instead because of the gluten free option. I much prefer pizza hacker to Paxti's. read more

We got the Crowd Pleaser and Vinny to-go last night. I was really looking forward to the Crowd Pleaser since I'd seen so many reviews about it, but it was disappointing. The balsamic/purple cabbage made the whole thing WAY to bitter and overpowered any hint of sweet fig. The Vinny was amazing. I love the hot pepper and mozzarella. The crust on both were delicious, and even better heated up the next day. They are also pretty expensive for small pies. read more

A friend recommended Pizza Hacker, so we dropped by around 8pm on a Friday night. We grabbed drinks at the bar, then waited no more than 10 minutes for a table to open up. Communal style seating with benches! We had a group of four so we ate alone. It's very noisy in here, but most restaurants are in the Mission these days. Even though we all laughed at the terrible name, my friends and I all agree the food was delicious! We started off with the salad which had a couple different kinds of beans, veggies and a nice poppy seed dressing - great! Then we split two pizzas, one meat & one veg which was plenty. Yo Vinny with snausage, etc. and then Rocket Man with an egg on top (cooked perf), topped with a generous amount of lemony arugula - yum! So good! If you have kids, this is an amazing place. If you don't, it's still pretty epic, though be weary of the 5pm crowd (like me) with kids. If you come after 6pm, you are golden. Good beer selection, awesome pizza, perfect salads and chalk for the kids! I love how fast the service is and how attentive the staff is. With two families -- 4 adults and 5 kids between us -- we were in and out in under an hour. Bellies were full, kids, moms and dads were all happy. That's a win in my book. read more

This is actually my second visit. The first time was MUCH better. This time, we were 8 people so we booked ahead but still had to wait 10 minutes when we got there... and the food, while good, was not great. I'm giving an extra star on previous merits, because I think it may have been an off night. Noise can be a serious issue here, so plan for that. Yo Vinnie pizza was the crowd favorite. The kalamata olives are just too much of a statement on whichever pie has them... kinda ruined it for most people in our party. (kids be warned! you will not like the 'Get a Room' pizza!) The top shelf marg was good, but not as good as I remembered from last year. The place is a block from my family's house, so I'll be back. We love pizza. We make it at home from the dough to the sauce and it's not terrible. We go out for pizza because sometimes you just don't want to crank up the oven to 550F and bake your entire house (and for some 'industrial espionage' culling tips from the pros all over the pizza planet). Pizza Hacker came to our neighborhood and we have been converting friends and family to PzaHckr denizens whenever we don't have our own dough growing at home. Pizza Hacker is top notch along side Tony's, Capo's, those NY Patsy's and Grimaldi's and better than John's, and we think superior to una pza napo. (Now that they're gone, why bother talking about them anyway). Hacker's sauces stands shoulder to shoulder with the best Nancy Silverton would make, harvested from Early Girl Tomatoes bringing this POW! The pepperoni on the Ohio has so much flavor, cups and miraculously doesn't issue an oil puddle you would find under an old Chevy with a leaking transmission. (They even shared the secret of their pep source). Tangy sauce and pepperoncini make a wondrous pizza. We've tried them all, lately we keep going back to Ohio. Pizza Hacker likes to cook until their crust is stiff enough to support the toppings and get a fair amount of char on the crust. The dough tastes good, with a little yeast and some of that SF sour, but just a touch. Beer choices rotate, usually an IPA, a saison or sour, a kolsch or something light on tap. Wine and sodas too. Always love the Intermezzo salad. Reminds us of the old days getting lunch at the Owl and Monkey. Very fresh and full of colorful beans and roots, and well tossed. The Kale Caesar is great too. Prices are fair, even pretty reasonable for San Francisco. What's to complain about? Communal tables shared with kids maybe, sometimes you have to wait, but turnover is pretty good. People who do not believe Pizza Hacker executes deliciously probably believe The Love Boat was the greatest show ever broadcast, IOW, they have little taste of substance and might be happier at "Yard of Pizza for One Dollar" strip mall chains. Top 4 Pizzas in the city next to Pizzetta, Tony's, and Presidio Pizza Company. The owner is a badass and stays true to his FrankenWeber roots, with emphasis on a simple but well-executed menu and fresh ingredients. Definitely California style, but with the perfect amount of char and texture on the dough, as opposed to the skimpy "crusty-thin" vibe that Delfina has. Great beers too. Will make the trek across town to come back. read more

One of the best pizza places in the city. Pies are on the small side but delicious. I had the short bridge and it was perfect. We (2 of us) had to wait about 45 min on a Friday night which past quickly drinking a beer. We got there about 730pm and it was a good thing because they stopped taking names at 8! They are open until 10pm. There wasn't long and by 9 there many open seats but still didn't sit anyone else. Come early or be stuck looking for another dinner spot. read more

Had dinner here with friends on Saturday night. They were busy ,but we were seated right away. The server was friendly, and the food came surprisingly fast. We all LOVED the pizza. This is definitely a favorite place of mine. The owner was there and remembered us from a previous visit, (although it been awhile.) Very personable guy and he's running a great restaurant. 2.5 stars I had a high hope for this place after reading raving yelp reviews and pictures of beautiful Neapolitan style pizza with perfectly charred edges. Unfortunately, it was quite a disappointing experience to dine here. We ordered a Margherita and Rocket Man. Margherita arrived first. I was not impressed -- the tomato sauce was under-seasoned and lacked deeper umami taste. My dining companion thought that the crust was not very satisfying because it did not have those slight chewiness developed with yeast. Their ingredients tasted all very fresh -- and I enjoyed the combination of arugula and egg in Rocket Man, but I did not taste any lemon that was supposed to be one of ingredients in Rocket Man. Although staff there were friendly and courteous, there was some issues with services. The first pizza arrived reasonably quickly, but we waited another 15+ minutes to get the second pie. If we ordered a salad and a pizza, I can expect a wait between courses -- it did not make sense to me that we get one pizza at a time. The restaurant was about 60-70% occupied -- but we saw that quite a few people came to pick up a large order of takeout when waiting for our food. Is it possible that the kitchen was giving priority to take-out customers over dine-in ones? Overrated. read more

I chose the restaurant because of the name thinking it would be finger lickin fried chicken, but it wasn't. It was actually a Jordanian restaurant with flame cooked and rotisserie option. There were also a number of lamb options which also sounded good as well as a large number of side options. It was served with a I pita that was quite tasty as well. Pizza, as always, is awesome. Service, however, has taken a seriously negative turn. We waited for almost 1 hour for 2 pizzas in a very empty restaurant. They must have lots of take-out orders, but this should not create a negative in-store experience. What made matters worse was the pizza maker telling me to order a salad if I was hungry. Oh my, I think I'm obsessed with this place. Simple menu, but everything I've ordered has been completely delicious. There is something about their pizza crust which is just highly addictive. I believe it is a sourdough base, but with no discernible tang to it and then it has this incredible blistered salty crust. Just one salad offered, but again it is amazingly good with great texture and mix of ingredients such as grated hard boiled egg. Staff also are super nice, friendly and at times pretty darn funny. I can often be seen waiting for them to open on a Wednesday after being closed for two days, shaking nervously and overly scratching at myself. read more

i got the get a room pizza and it was good. if i can eat the crust that means it's a good pizza. the dough was good, crust was great, it seems to need more flavor though. could be due to the sauce, felt like it needed more. but other than that it's good pizza. again, dough is good, crust is great just needed more flavor for the toppings. Honestly, I just went to famous famous famous Roberta's in Bushwick, Brooklyn (basically the reason Bushwick became "cool"), and I think PizzaHacker is on par. The charred crust, the homemade sauce and handpulled mozz, and ingredients so fresh I could swear they have a whole farm of pizza toppings growing on their roof...I am so spoiled now that this place is 1 block from my house. Their menu is small and edited down to things they excel at. The Top shelf margherita, Summer Fave (lemony! peppery! bright!), and the Purple Rain are my favorite, but honestly nothing I've ever put in my mouth on the PizzaHacker premises has been anything short of D E L I C I O U S, including the beer and wine. Every bite of pizza was better than the last. No joke. Even just the one with literally sauce and crust. Amazing. Was a little tricky coordinating with 4 adults and 2 little kids to get a long table near the chalk board (and then to find a piece of chalk to draw with) but we managed. I'm so disappointed tonight from this restaurant. I've had great service and food before but tonight they dropped the bar. I ordered a short bridge to go. First they were disorganized. The guy said your pizza will be coming up soon. I waited between 5 to 10 minutes watching them box up pizzas. I said to someone else about my pizza, which was sitting on the oven getting cold. Top Shelf Margherita pizza - for an extra $2, you get the Early Girl tomato sauce which is sweet/tangy, and delicious. Highly recommend over the regular Margherita pizza. Salad - it's HUGE. It can feed at least 3 people or more. Very fresh, light and simple. Parking - across the street at the BofA lot, there's parking for a flat fee of $12. Kinda steep if you have no other reason to be in the area but it's an option if you can't find street parking. This is a VERY casual restaurant so if you showed up looking like you just rolled out of bed, I'm sure no one would notice. read more
