This place has been in East Pines since I was a kid and it's the only place to get a Pizza Wheel/Pizza Oven pizza, all the other locations are closed. The owner still works there, he was there in the 60's. I like the pizza but I tend to think it needs more cheese so I always get extra cheese. He has a loyal following in the local community and has hired many you people in the area and likes to post pictures and articles about the DC area and local people. read more

Absolutely love this place!! First it's a family owned restaurant. second their decor is funky, hats, neckties and other stuff hanging from the ceiling, vintage election memorabilia is hanging from the walls, which was fun to see election slogans from 60's, 70's, 80's 90's and 2000s. Third the staff are extremely nice, the owner is such a sweetheart. The food is spectacular, very affordable, the one downside is that they only accept cash. A wonderful gem in a slightly out of the way location, Pizza Oven never disappoints! Their sauce is amazing... I can't help but go for the spag and meatballs almost every time! The folks are incredibly kind and generous (they gave my boyfriend a free side of mac and cheese while he was waiting for his sub the other day) and the ambiance needs to be seen to be believed. In short, this is the most flavorless pizza I have ever tasted. It didn't have any spices, not even a pinch of salt. Even the meatball topping was tasteless. It reminded me of school pizza. Service was friendly, but that's it. On a good note, my kids did enjoy the pizza. read more

Finally decided to give this place a try and I am so impressed. First, the atmosphere of the restaurant is really interesting, different types of hats and local artifacts hanging all over the ceiling and walls. And the pizza was by far the best pizza in the area. Nice crispy crust, plenty of sauce, generous toppings, and just a little cheese (if you like a lot of cheese, you should order extra). Also, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who happened be working behind the counter. He pulled out some old scrap books, one book was filled with different types of currency from all over the world that costumers had given him over the years. The other book had a little notes written by customers from all over the country. There also appears to be several other types of dishes and several vegetarian options (vegetable pot pie, black bean burger, veggie lasagna, etc). My only regret is not coming here sooner despite living in the area for the last few years. read more

Additional star for being a restaurant that has been here since 1957 and managed to stay completely relevant serving good pizza with a smile to a drastically changing neighborhood. English and Spanish are spoken with ease. The whole thing is an experience, take a date here if you want to see if they're (the date) quality or not. You know what, the owner is the most old-school down-to-earth sweetest guy that you can ever meet. Please bring cash because he does not have a debit card machine. However, all of his staff are very friendly and helpful. My first time coming here was about two weeks ago and they thoroughly helped me go through the menu and actually helped me select good things that myself can eat on a diet and also kid friendly options for my children. In addition, the local community donate books and they give out books to kids free. Which is also really cool because I am an advocate for education and my kids got really good free books. Guess I got a new place to donate books too! The Pork Sliders, pizza and their chicken Caesar salad is the bomb! Let me tell you about the salad, with all the raw veggies like mushrooms, broccoli, bell peppers and onions very good! Must try! This pizza is quite possibly THE WORST thing I have EVER eaten. And, just for your frame of reference, I deployed twice in the Army where mystery meat mush was a regular in the weekly rotation. With that being said, I will say that the decor inside, with all the hats and posters, was pretty interesting, albeit in a really cluttered, "are they dusting all of this shit? how exactly do they keep this place clean...??" kind of way. However, even the visual distractions were not enough to keep us from wondering where our food (a large pepperoni with half sausage half mushroom) was after 30mins had gone by. Don't get me wrong. I'll wait for good food. In fact, I could be a professional line stander for good food. So, the wait didn't bother me. What bothered me was the pizza. Everything about the pizza was disturbing. It came out on a school lunch tray and tasted like it. As in, it tasted like the school lunch tray. The toppings actually weren't bad. They were plentiful and tasted as they should. However, the crust is an abomination to all crusts that shoulder the weight of the world's toppings. Thin and crispy initially then gummy, but all the while devoid of any flavor. Between this "I can't even call it a crust" and the toppings was a couple gallons of sauce. It has now been over an hour since I left this establishment and I still can't think of a worse way I've spent $20. read more

A friend introduced me this place a few months ago. He knew of it from his college days in the early '70s. The square, plain cheese pizza is totally reminiscent of the Original Ledo's pizza (near College Park, Maryland, from the '50s - '90s). Also very similar to the old Paisano's pizza in Oxon Hill, Maryland, and Dino's pizza in Suitland, Maryland, during that same period. Pizza Oven has been a favorite of mine since 1957. The sauce is incredible, and servings are massive. We always have some leftover for snacking later. Not only is the pizza great, they have wonderful sandwiches and sides. Their subs are sooooo good, and not skimpy. I have friends who have moved away from this area who moan about how much they miss Pizza Oven. We sometimes carry one of the extra large pizzas to my brother and his family up in Glen Burnie, MD when we go up. They miss Pizza Oven so bad and the 4 boys will usually hit the table as soon as we bring the food in. read more

Visiting my husbands childhood neighborhood and we decided to stop and have the "oven burger". Soooo good! They were friendly from when you walk in the door. We ordered and sat down. They brought us our drinks and some fresh fruit, complements of the house as we waited for our meal. If you are in this neighborhood don't let the size if the place fool you.
