I love this place! Went the other day for the first time in a couple years, and it was just how I remembered it! A delicious and cheap local pizza joint. Outside of the building is pretty worn down but don't judge a book by its cover. The inside is quite nice and cozy. Plenty of seating/TVs and quiet atmosphere. Clean floors and tables. The pizza is just great! Nice variety of toppings and sizes to choose from. In the photo is a 10 inch with bacon and ham. Took barely 15 minutes to make (we were the only ones there, an hour before closing). Waitress was friendly and made sure everything was alright for us. Overall for a 10 inch, 3 breadsticks w/ sauce, and 2 drinks it came out to $25. Great deal and delicious food in my opinion! I am not typically a fan of thin crust but this pizza was SO GOOD. Not too much sauce, perfect temperature, and generous amount of toppings. Was the perfect amount of food for 2 people, no leftovers but still feeling comfortably full. Small Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza, Coke : $12.24- What a mistake! I have driven past this place 500 times, I wish I had made it 501. I grew up near this area and have never tried Pizza King before. I hoped this might be a retro-charming mom and pop pizza joint. It's not. The "decor" is "vintage dive" with an oil and water mix of flea market quality Notre Dame & NASCAR "memorabilia". The most pathetic symbolism is the "Pizza King" logo that I'm sure was hoped to grace a national chain of these restaurants. I ordered about 6 PM - Ten minutes later I heard the "cook" ask a clarifying question about my order. This place is small and I was only about 15 feet from the open kitchen area. I started seeing other customers pizzas coming out of the kitchen and got a sinking feeling in my gut. They looked like those hideously cheap "Totino's Party PIzzas" you get at the store for $1.00 a piece on sale. Their menu specifies that "Pizza King" serves only thin crust pizza. I am QUITE sure this is not because of fidelity to an old family recipe or a matter of taste- but because the crust is cheap, cheap, cheap! These 3 words tell you everything about their "pizza" (I put in quotes because this BARELY qualifies as pizza!). 35 minutes after I ordered, this is what was served to me. It's supposed to be pepperoni and mushrooms- the so called "pepperoni" is actually "pepperoni crumbles", like "Bacon Bits". The problem is this pizza cost $10.50 , and the awful "Totino's Party PIzzas" are only $1.00. This mess was just about terrible- the sauce was sickly sweet, the "pepperoni crumbles" were just as awful as they look- and incredibly greazey. I asked the "cook" about their crust. She told me the crust comes pre-made and portioned out and they roll it out and make the pizzas. This is the WORST tasting "pizza" I can remember having. This is nothing more than rank profiteering by using the absolute cheapest, most low-grade ingredients that can still pass as "suitable for human consumption". The pizza at my high school was quite a bit BETTER than this! The only reason I can guess for their continued operation is they sell beer and alcohol. I've grown up with Pizza King and absolutely love their pizza and breadsticks. However, this Pizza King doesn't have the same menu and their food is not the same quality. The crust seemed to be a par-baked frozen crust as were the breadsticks. Moreover, the breadsticks didn't have any seasoning. I could have bought some frozen breadsticks at the grocery store, gotten twice as many and enjoyed them twice as much for less than what an order of three cost at this place. I wasn't a fan of the atmosphere or service either. The restaurant seemed dingy, which I should have guessed by its facade (i.e. not well taken care of at all). The server was not friendly and seemed too busy to wait on our table, offering several excuses as to why despite the fact that we were the only customers and there were at least two other employees present. We won't be eating here again. And I strongly advise anyone else considering it to head in the opposite direction. read more

We have been to many Pizza Kings across Indiana and love them -so when we saw this one in South Bend, it was a "no brainer" to stop there for dinner. It was the worst pizza we have ever had in a restaurant. In a place where the main item on the menu is pizza, they don't even make their own dough for breadsticks! The breadsticks were store-bought and bland. The pizza was no better. The crust tasted like cardboard, cheese was "slimy" and overall the pizza had no flavor or seasoning!! We left over 1/2 of our pizza on the table and paid $35 for breadsticks, pizza and 2 sodas. The service was also poor. Waited 20 min for breadsticks (they must've had to run to the grocery store to get them!) The waitress never came back to ask how things were nor did she ever come back to give us our bill. We ended up going up and asking for our bill and paying for it on our way out. We never heard a "hello" when we walked in, a "goodbye" when we walked out or a "don't let the door hit you in the ass"! We really felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff working. Learn from our mistake and don't waste your money here. Stop at Wendy's and get yourself a burger! Okay. Let me first say that I used to eat the stromboli and pizzas here all of the time. They were absolutely the BEST. So I thought I'd rekindle memories and ordered a medium pizza and a Stromboli. Let me start by first saying I believe this is a place everyone needs to go to at least once. It's a cute little place, with an interesting layout. The service is great, our waitress was attentive but not hovering. The garlic cheese bread we got for an appetizer was wonderful, and I definitely recommend it. However the pizza was kind of.. eh. Which was a little disappointing since it's called Pizza King. The crust is far too thin, the sauce is far too pumpkin-y, and it needed far more cheese. We came into Pizza King at 10:55pm on a friday night. After a long night of driving we were starving. They close at 11pm so we were 'THAT' customer but there where still people in the restaurant. I'd have to say... they were fantastic! We even apologized for our timing and they were overly accomendating. We ordered pizza to go and bosco sticks. We asked if we could have a pitcher of beer while waiting... they gladly served us this. When we got our pizza, there were still people in the restaurant so we kindly asked if we could just finish our beer and have a couple of slices. They told us we could eat the pizza and even brought our plates and silverware. We insisted that we were okay with just using napkins but they still brought out plates. They even refilled our beer!
