Pizza King is a Richmond staple. Unfortunately the quality has decreased in the last 20 years, and the prices have increased. It's still enjoyable pizza sure, especially if someone else is paying. I just don't think it deserves the local fame it is coasting on. The restaurants are a bit dingy, and the service can be spotty. Seems like managment is "phoning it in"... If you've ever been there this joke is hilarious. HOWEVER, this specific location of Pizza King, Clara's has a pretty cool atmosphere. That is reminiscent of a fantasy antique-shop. The building service is great and if you need refills, they have a phone on the wall where you can call the kitchen to order to get refills. From the looks of it, a Pizza King pizza is definitely not a traditional pizza. Rather than the usual sliced veggies, mushrooms, pepperoni, bacon and such, everything is finely minced so that no one ingredient stands out or is easily recognizable. The crust is neither St. Louis thin, thankfully, nor thick like a deep dish or store bought rising crust pizza. It inhabits that middle ground like a Pizza Hut hand tossed. That being said, whenever I go back to Richmond/Centerville, usually for a high school reunion with this weekend being our 50th, one thing I always plan on is eating at Clara's Pizza King. There is something about its preparation and flavor that I really like. This past weekend, some twenty+ of my former classmates met up there and had a good time reminiscing and eventually eating. Our food didn't arrive until an hour and a half after we were seated. While disappointing, it's understandable considering the size of our group and I'm sure the staff was trying to have everything served at roughly the same time. The area we were sat at was the lowest level of the split level restaurant. The bulk of the lighting came from a single small window, which seemed somewhat blinding compared to the almost cave-like dim lighting for most of that area. Brighter lighting would be welcome there. Interesting pizza restaurant....once self seated....look over the menu on the table..make your decisions...and pick up the phone and place your order! New concept for us...but it worked. We got a 10" pizza with our choice of toppings, a salad and two drinks. Then our server brought out our drinks and salad while the pizza was made. Pizza was good nice toppings and the salad was good. I grew up on Pizza King living in Muncie, Indiana where the original Clara's was built on Madison Street. It's been years and thrilled I found another originals to the East Central Indiana pizza chain. Only three originals were named Clara's from the family that established Pizza King in the 1970's. Likely the third was in Anderson, IN. The memories are strong of going out for pizza on Friday nights with family. It's a tradition that lives on for those that remained in the area. The dining rooms still have multicolored lampshades hanging over each table. A signature to the chain. Our server Dereck was a bit of a PK historian which made our weekday lunch visit even more memorable. You still ring the king from their table side phones to place your order. The breadsticks were a must and asked for them to be expedited prior to our 14 inch pepperoni & sausage pie. The breadsticks were every bit as good as I recalled dipped in warm cheddar cheese. The pizza followed about 15 minutes later and was a glorious sight to be hold. The square pieces with crispy bottom and plentiful toppings was exactly true to the brand. I will not be a stranger to this particular location although there are others in the town of Richmond. A full 5 stars because they deserved it from cleanliness, to service to food. Listen food is amazing but service is slow, kids love coming here the inside is great. We ordered and table next to us got breadstick and pizza before we even got drinks. They said only two servers but when they walk by you 7 times avoiding the table it's hard to look past. Shouldn't take 25 minutes to just get drinks. Food is great though. read more

So unexpected! When you step inside you'll be wowed with the beautiful stained glass windows and lamp shades, the cozy nooks and ambiance, not to mention the giant double decker bus in the center that you can dine in. The bus seemed to be the hot spot for all the young kids. There are phones at each table to ring into the kitchen but not sure if they are actually supposed to be used for ordering since the server came to our table to take our order. We got lucky and got the Wednesday special which was a pizza and drink for $8, each topping is an extra dollar or so. We really enjoyed the pizza, the personal size was perfect for one. We specifically went to this Pizza King because it was on my Roadside Attractions App for the Doubledecker bus inside. The Ambiance is very neat! It has all sorts of things hanging from the ceiling and you can even eat on the bus! Kids will love it! You call on the phone to make an order at the table- which is also extremely cool to me. If you're from Indiana, you know Pizza King. An Indiana tradition when it comes to pizza, Pizza King has right about 55 locations around the state of Indiana with a definite focus on rural areas and smaller cities. Pizza King has a relatively slight Central Indiana presence, though not a single location inside Indy's actual city limits. While there's quite a bit of consistency between Pizza King locations, truthfully this is also a chain where you may love one spot yet despite another spot for reasons related to pizza, atmosphere, or customer service. There are great Pizza King locations. There are not-so-great Pizza King locations. I tend to be a fan of the actual pizza. It's not what I'd call gourmet pizza, but it has a look and taste to it that is somewhat nostalgic to me. It's a little bit old school, but definitely still of quality. This location, actually known as Clara's Pizza King, is one of my favorite Pizza King locations. That's partly because it brings back memories of my times in Richmond attending seminary. It's also just plain because the restaurant itself is beautiful, the customer service is top-notch, and the pizza is always delicious. Pizza King offers pizza, pasta, subs, wraps, salads, fountain drinks, beer, and wine. Pizza King is so well known that you can even have pizza shipped. The restaurant is eclectic with stained glass windows and you can even eat your pizza in a vintage London double-decker bus. I will note they say they are wheelchair accessible - they're truly not 100% accessible, though certainly anyone in a wheelchair has a variety of dining options here and I've never had any problems at all. The restaurant was actually built around the bus. There's also some tables upstairs that offer swings for seats. Pizza King also has a jukebox. I tend to keep things simple with pepperoni or sausage pizza and I really love the sausage pizza here. As a matter of note, mostly because I forget for a few minutes every time I come here, while you do have a server there's a phone on your table that you use to call in your order. They then bring it to the table. If you're a fan of Pizza King, a stop at Clara's in Richmond is practically a must. If you're not a Pizza King fan, it may not change your mind here but it's still a cool enough experience that I'd recommend it. I'm headed back to Richmond again this weekend to preach at a Richmond church and I look forward to stopping at Clara's! read more

This place NEVER disappoints!! It's one of the most unique pizza places I've ever been. From the phones at the table to order to the bus!! My husband and I have been several times. The pizza is so good. Crust is soft and flavorful!! The sauce is very robust! I just love it. A small pizza is more than enough for 2 people! Prices are great and the service is ahhhhmazing! I'll tell you Richmond is a small town that certainly needs love. So if you EVER pass through or live close for a nice drive, stop YOU will not be disappointed! Stopped at Pizza King, 203 W. Main St, Richmond, IN. The Royal Feast hardly had any toppings in it. Didn't realize till I got home, 39min later. It sure wasn't the Royal Feast I grew up with. Not sure if all the locations in Richmond are the same, but I wouldn't recommend this store. read more

You want to eat in a London Double Decker Bus? Look no further than Clara's Pizza King. You want to order from table side rotary phones, ala Don Draper? Is the pizza edible, yes. Is it my favorite Pizza King?, no that would be the Fremont location way up in Steuben County, but if your kids want to eat in a city bus you're all set. Just be aware the restroom situation is much like you'd find at the bus station. Go before you get there and maybe if it's an emergency after you eat, but under no circumstances should you go before your meal is delivered. If you do your appetite will disappear. Also know as Clara's, this is just like the Pizza King on the east side I reviewed, but with fancier deco. The most distinctive feature is the double decker bus inside. The walls and tables and booths are more upscale than the east side. They do need some care, because I noticed some carvings in the wall. There is some upstairs levels where people can sit. I'm am sooooooo disappointed in the West Side Pizza King in Richmond, IN, with their food. The past two months that we've ordered take-out, part of our order has been burned so badly it was not editable. Last night I checked my cheese pizza to make sure it was not burned but never thought to check the breadsticks which is my favorite part of the meal. They were so burned that I had to throw them away. I always ask for gift card for birthdays and Christmas since our order is over $50 each time. (Red Lobster is actually a little cheaper). I told my sister and mom we may now might need to rethink gift cards from here. I'm very leary of placing future orders from them since the past two months have not been a pleasant experience. We come to Indiana to visit family and while we're there, we stop at Pizza King at least once, if not twice. Pizza and sub sandwiches are pretty easy and you'll find shops around this town with either. This chain offers a good variety with good quality and good taste. Don't expect that you'll have a five-star dining experience. It's still a pizza place. The tables have laminate tops and you use a phone at your table to order. I went with friends and we ordered a 12 inch Royal Feast (Deluxe/Supreme) pizza and an 11 inch original sub sandwich. The sub goes in the oven along with the pizza so it's hot when you get it. The ingredients on both were good this time, though they can be inconsistent on the amount from time to time. The food is enjoyable and the wait staff is friendly and helpful. You pay on the way out. The company has 3 stores in town so you can visit Northwest 5th Street or West Main Street or East Main Street. read more

Fit for Royalty!! Pizza King has been my all time favorite pizza joint since I was a kid. Sadly we don't have any here in Tennessee. Every time we go up north to visit family, we always make it a point to stop here and eat. Nothing cooler than walking into a restaurant and seeing a giant bus right in the middle of the dining room. It's soooo soooo...idk...JUST COOL! You can even enjoy your meal on the bus as they converted it into a little dining area as well. The food is delicious! Whether you're in the mood for a pizza or a sub, or any other menu options, you're in for a treat! Hoping that one day they will finally build a Pizza King in Tennessee. I so love pizza king. This was my fist time here in about 30 years. I came here when I was a kid and I was finally able to bring my children here. Not only did they live the pizza, and they are picky eaters, they loved the ambiance. You gotta love the bus! I absolutely have nothing negative to say about this place. It's simply fantastic! This is by far the best pizza I have ever had in my entire life...and yes, I have traveled the world! The bread sticks are addicting as well! Smothered in dill butter and you can order them "3/4 baked" as well. They also let you order pizzas un-baked so you can bake them fresh at your home.
