Years ago, I worked for Cassano's, after I came to love their pizza. I even worked at the old location (on East Main St.) for this store somewhere around 1980 for a weekend. Cassano's was always dedicated to giving you good food for your money. They made a few bad choices, such as making you order your own food at the counter, but they've never sacrificed the taste of the food and I'll always return for that taste. The store is in Five Points Center south of Walmart and Kmart and it's almost at the big intersection. They have quite a few booths and tables in the dining room and the rest room is adjacent to their space. Since they're in the strip mall, you have a variety of entrances from which to choose and there are plenty of parking places. Wheelchair access is possible, but there are no automatic doors that I could find. The menu board is a bit small and they have another smaller board under plastic on the counter, as well as paper menus. The staff handled every transaction quite well, including mine and they brought my pizza out within a reasonable amount of time while handling other orders. They didn't seem the most friendly but they did their job pretty well. The dining area wasn't dirty but chairs had not been put back in place so it looked as though they'd only done a partial job. Update: more employees, more customers, tables needed to be cleaned. I'd ordered a 9 inch Deluxe pizza and a Mountain Dew. This came to just under $10.00 with tax. Is that a bargain these days? At least, it's in line with other places. They also have a personal, 6 inch pizza to go with the 9, 12, 14, and 16 inch sizes. I like that they still have salad, pasta, and hot submarine sandwiches. I don't believe that they have fish & chips (or hand-dipped mushrooms or hand-dipped onion rings at this location. Only the Stroop Road and Trenton, OH stores have the fish & chips at this time. The pizza was excellent with plenty of toppings and I didn't have a problem with the soda machine. It may not have been Taco Bell cheap, but taste isn't optional.

I love Cassano's pizza! Every time I am in town I always stop. The pizza is delicious and I love their salt crust.

But don't hesitate to get in here, just watch your step a bit. It's dim and romantic with a retro vibe. We ate at the bar which always tends to give a good feel for a new place. There were two barmaids who came and went as they had to serve tables too, but service was quite attentive. We were primarily served by Melissa (I hope I remembered her name right!) and she was so helpful with answering questions. We happened to come on the half price app day** so naturally we tried the Breaking Bread... incredible, easily sufficient for four people to share. It was warm, soft, cheesy and full of flavor. The marinara was delicious as was the blended cheese dip. We took half home and enjoyed it the next day. My husband had the smoked salmon sandwich. It was beautiful to behold, smelled so delectable, and off the charts delicious. After I took a bite I was jealous. I did thoroughly enjoy my BLT+E with a wonderful runny egg and thick fresh tomato. I think I would have liked it better on toasted bread vs. the bun. Everything on the menu sounded good. I had a peek at the brunch menu too. I had a cocktail called the Farm Market which was so refreshing and like a taste of summer which I needed badly on this bitter cold evening. They have a great cocktail list and of course an extensive wine list which is set up in unique categories and fun to read. My husband was happy with his wine. They also have port! Four kinds! Melissa kindly gave me a taste of one and I am SO coming back for a port flight. A word on accessibility- the main entrance has two steps up and there are sturdy grab bars on both sides but you do need to be a bit cautious at the bottom. I was told there is a rear or side entry that is wheelchair accessible. It was way too cold to explore but I'll check it out on our next visit in the very near future. If you're thinking of giving the Cork a try, don't hesitate. It's fabulous. **Yelp advises they are removing Tips (boo) so I'll note again here that apps are half price all night on Thursdays.
