I had never been to this pizza place before, and most of the workers seemed like corporate zombies. The only person who really stood out was Daniel. Daniel was the only one who greeted me with real hospitality and made me feel welcome. He was very kind and friendly. I also noticed him cleaning and working while everyone else seemed to just be standing around. Daniel was honestly the best part of my experience there. I made sure to get his name because he was doing such a great job. He definitely deserves a raise!!! I will definitely come back, mainly because of the great hospitality Daniel showed me. First of all I only found Pizza Chalet because I was a fan of Johnnies broasted chicken. If you want the best fried chicken then you MUST have it broasted. The lunch buffet is the only reason I go to PC You can eat the entire cost in chicken alone. But that's not to say the other items on the buffet are subpar. Very good quality and an amazing price. I ordered using Door Dash a few nights ago, the delivery service was great and received my order nice and warm. The problem was with the Jojo Potatoes! They were absolutely nasty. The oil in which they were cooked was obviously burnt and that flavor was sucked up by the potatoes. I ate only one and threw the whole order in the trash. The chicken goes second in the name - in fact, it may not even be in the name anymore - but honestly, it's the crowning jewel achievement of fried chicken in the region. My review is essentially focused on the lunch buffet and Monday dinner buffet (I think it's the same, but just on different times). Largely because buffets give me the chance to try a lot of different flavors of food, as opposed to just an endless amount of pizza of one flavor. In a lot of ways, this place reminds me of a better Shakey's, which is pretty good considering that there are Shakey's everywhere for a reason (I too am a Shakey's enjoyer). First, I have no idea what it means to "broast" a chicken and I thought they made it up, but no, it's a real thing and it's really good. The chicken stays moist inside despite the outside being crispy, even brittle. This was also impressive since the buffet chicken had probably sat there for a minutes, so the made-to-order chicken has to be even better. Second, the sandwich thingies are surprisingly addictive. They have these sandwich rolls, I honestly don't know what to call them, that you can get. I did not expect much, but they surprised me. They have this enjoyable chewiness that reminds me of pizza crust and honestly it feels like eating a wrapped pizza. It may in fact be a calzone. I don't know, but I know it was good. Third, the pizza flavors were fun and nice. They had all the typical pizza flavors. As pizza, I don't actually think it stood out, but they all held their own. The real standout was the strange cinnamon dessert pizza. I don't even like cinnamon or dessert, but I couldn't stop eating the cinnamon desert pizza. I honestly should have topped, yet I continued. My waistline will make me regret this later. I've only had dessert pizza one other time in my life - and that was in Japan, so this place is now my official dessert pizza provider. My only issue is that it's often not that crowded during the lunch buffet unless you come at 12 PM, which means that a lot of the buffet items don't get switched out rapidly. Kind of inherent to the buffet business, there's kind of a snowball effect that makes food better. So I prefer to come either around 12 PM exactly or I go to the Monday buffet, which usually gets decent turnout. Anyways, this is one of my favorite lunch buffets in existence. I highly highly recommend it, and I figure the made-to-order food has to be pretty good too, though I have not tried it yet. read more

For those of you who are perhaps too young to remember, Pizza Chalet used to be a chain of sit-down pizza restaurants with dozens of locations in Southern California. Like many other similar local chains (Taco Tia and Pioneer Chicken for instance), the number of Pizza Chalets began to dwindle and shrink from about the mid/late 80s. Now there are only a handful of locations left, with Yucaipa being the closest one to many in the Inland Empire. Oddly enough, as much as I loved pizza when I was a teen (and as much as I still love it today), I had NEVER been to a Pizza Chalet location until about 3 weeks ago. My brother, mom, and I were out doing errands in the area and decided to pop in to see if it was any good. We heard about the all-you-can-eat buffet and decided to give it a try despite a few reservations. Those reservations quickly fell away! What a delicious gem of find this turned out to be. Its located up at the top of Yucaipla Blvd, "over the hill" and close to the historic district near the roundabout. Upon entering, we noted it had the feel of the pizza parlors of old from the 80s and 90s where kids and teens would go when their baseball or soccer games were over. To add to that feel, there is even a fun-zone arcade area for kids to enjoy themselves in and win tickets to redeem prizes at a counter near the entrance! Wow!!! The nostalgia of it all! Speaking of Nostalgia, the place has staying power. This location opened in 1976 and has been around for almost 50 years and touts itself as "The Best Pizza in Yucaipa". The buffet is very much a bargain. They have a decently-stocked salad bar (with 6 dressings!), a regular rotation of freshly made pizzas with various toppings (one of which is a tasty homage to the Gay 90's Pizza Parlor from Redlands that started the whole "cashews on a pizza" craze, a selection of mini Italian sandwiches as well as desserts. All of these were freshly made and delicious tasting. I don't know if the pizza was indeed "The Best"; but I'd say it's certainly above average and quite tasty. The real star of the show, however, is their "Johnnie's Broasted Chicken". OMG!! Where has this been all my life?! It's a pressure-cooked chicken recipe that seals the delicious, slightly salty, and savory flavor down to the bone. The outside is crispy and the inside is moist and juicy. I kept coming back to this for seconds and even thirds! Some of the best chicken I've had in a long time. The employees here were very friendly, and the food in the buffet never had time to get stale. It was restocked regularly. To top it all off, they even had a decent selection of 6-8 beers on tap including local microbrews! Gotta have a cold beer with pizza, right?!? I will say this about the price. The buffet is your best option for value here. It runs from 11 am - 2 pm every day, and from 5 pm - 7:30 pm on Monday nights. Outside of that, the price of the pizza and chicken by themselves do tend to be a bit more expensive than other places in the area, especially the chicken. Prices seem to be on-par with the Gourmet Pizza Shoppe in Redlands. You can check out the pictures of the menu others have posted to get a good idea. I admit the sticker shock made me deduct a star in this case. That being said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here for their lunch buffet of on a Monday night for dinner. There are lots of options to choose from and I absolutely guarantee you will fall in love with the broasted chicken! A bit pricey overall, but still a fun spot in Yucaipa to try! The inside was dirty and there weren't clean plates. The staff is very young and from the ones I interacted with, they seemed anxious to talk or serve/provide basic customer service. The pass area doesn't have an over abundance of team friendly options so we always end up going to Pizza Chalet for little league team pizza parties. It's really a typical team pizza place. They have communal bench tables. A small room is available, but there's not a lot of space inside. They have a tiny game area for kids. There is nothing unique about the actual pizza, but it gets a pass. Although their pizza is uneventful, I find that their broasted chicken is the star of the show. Broasted chicken is a thing in Yucaipa. Since Johnnie's Broasted Chicken I've seen quite a few other Broasted Chicken places pop up. Now I don't know how true this, but, I heard that Johnnie's sold their recipe to Pizza Chalet. Don't hold me to this claim, because I heard this from a few people, but, it could totally be a rumor.
