We started with the jalapeño poppers with raspberry dipping sauce...very tasty! Then we were able to put toppings of two different signature pizzas onto each half of a single large pizza (of which we will also be enjoying for breakfast!!!) both pizzas were delicious! The dessert calzones were phenomenal as well. We are driving through, saw the menu on this place and had to give it a try! We had the bacon wrapped jalapeños with the raspberry dipping sauce. They were superb. And we were delighted to find out that you could split a large pizza into two types. Both were absolutely fantastic! Generous portions, we shared the large (two of us) and still had half leftover for breakfast tomorrow! I absolutely love what FIRE pizza, I've had it all over the world, including Italy and they definitely nailed it! We also got the dessert calzones, which were great too, and what a plus that they carry local craft beer on draft! Katie was her server and she was so attentive and kind! Ordered pizza for carryout. Got it home and the pizza was burned around the crust - BLACK!! I called the store and let them know. Wondered who would put this in a box and send it out. I really enjoyed this place. We were just passing through and the hotel clerk recommended this place. We walk in and saw the owner working as hostess. We were not seated right away but 10 mins tops was our wait. They had a great flight of local beer. We got a salad and wings to start. The salad needed more dressing and had too much cheese. The wings were great but needed just a little more buffalo sauce. We got a chicken, bacon, ranch pizza for our main and it was great no complaints there. I read a lot of reviews talking about the crust being burnt. The pizza is cooked in a wood oven which leads to the appearance of burnt crust. Mine was great really enjoyed it. If the wings and salad would have been better this would be a hands down five stars for me. read more

So, as you may know, I always bring wifey Adrienne with me for good eats. Here is the review of Pizza Carrello in Gillette, WY. I must start out by saying that we started on a train from Chicago to Seattle and have eaten so many places in between over the past week. We have eaten at fancy places, local favorites - you name it - From $40 steaks to $3 sandwiches. Adrienne said after we got the appetizers, "Unless they totally screw up the amazing wood-fired pizza, this is my absolute favorite place we have eaten this trip." That endorsement means five-stars, right off the top! "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy". (She was WAY happy.) Still, I will review the food and experience anyway: The pizza did not disappoint! Not at all! The only disappointment was we got half 1980's pepperoni. The pepperoni WAS very good, but "The Vineyard and the Farm" is a top five-all time GREAT pizza! We are talking, "I'm full, but I want one to go great". We had also ordered two appetizers to share. Olives and feta and a creamy cucumber, tomato onion salad. The Olive dish was fantastic! The salad was pretty good. We ordered two desserts to share. The Tiramisu and the Blueberry Cream Calzone. Tiramisu was very good. Not on a scale of The Vineyard and the Farm Pizza good, but a decent tiramisu. Wifey and I agree that a LITTLE more espresso would have made it AWESOME. The Blueberry Cream Calzone was just amazing!The cream with the blueberries, great. And the wood fired crust made it the signature dessert it is. Needless to say a bunch of food came back on the road with us for a late night snack or mid morning brunch tomorrow! Final Grades: Appearance: A- Staff: A+ Lauren was as good as it gets! Gillette, WY... Pizza and Artichoke dip doesn't really come to mind when thinking about the town of Gillette. Well, after trying this place out, Artichoke Dip definitely comes to mind! And I'm from California where we have tons of great restaurants haha. We came here after an awesome tour of Gillettes Coal mine. The staff was very accommodating for our large group of 33. They were very organized and efficient. The establishment was very clean and had a refreshing open feel. It was not dark or cramped like other places. Our family got the "Chicken Dance" pizza, "The Fruity Goat", the "Pasta Americana" and the "Fogatza Dipping Bread with House-Made Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Dip". Everything was so good. The Fruity Goat caught my eye because of the blueberries. It complimented very well with the chicken and arugula. That is a pizza I will definitely get whenever we're around here. It the star of the show was definitely the "Fogatza Dipping Bread with House-Made Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Dip"! So much so we ordered 2 for our family of 4. I think next time we'll be ordering 1 for each person haha. The bread was very fluffy and worked well with their awesome spinach artichoke dip. I don't know what they put in the dip or bread, but I'm still craving it, even while writing this review haha. The food and service at this place is definitely top notch, and this is coming from someone who has dined at quite a few places, as people can tell from my belly haha. The food is so good. Service is very friendly but can be slow depending on what day you go. Be careful with the poppers. They range from the equivalent spiciness of green pepper to a raging inferno in your mouth. Brunch is also awesome. There is a great combination of flavors in all pizzas and pastas. I have never ordered anything I didn't like. The only bad things I can say is the layout and the amount of time it takes to be seated. Depending on where you sit, you can be in the major traffic area of the very busy take out section which makes you feel like people are constantly walking through and standing in your group's dining area "bubble". Also there are often times that you get in and give the host/hostess your name and number in the party and there are plenty of empty tables yet you may wait for 15 minutes staring at these empty tables. Came in for a dinner because a local recommended it. We were seated right away even though it looked pretty full. We were seated by the bar so we were able to watch the football games. The atmosphere was very casual and upbeat. We ordered an appetizer, the cheesy bread that didn't make it to our table before the food because it was given to another table. When we did get it, it was hot and the dipping sauce had good flavor with a good little kick to it. My husband got the 1980's pepperoni pizza and he loved it. It was full of flavor, came out hot, and had a lot of pepperoni. I had the strawberry steak pizza. It was lacking in some flavor and I would not consider the meat on there steak. This wood fired pizza place was talked about in state of Wyoming travel book. We stopped in. I was going to order the one they talked about with compote, ham, arugula but they said it was really sweet and compote was like a syrup. Instead I ordered Fruity Goat which has grilled chicken, olive oil, goat cheese, mozzarella, blueberries and arugula. I ate 4 of 6 pieces of my 9" pizza. While traveling on our #vanlife trip, our rented van had engine problems which diverted us to Gillette, unexpectedly. A quick review of the Happy Cow vegan Yelp-like app showed that there might be options for us here. The staff was friendly and accommodating and knew their menu well. I figured being in Wyoming we'd have to have detailed explanations that "no, cheese is not vegan, no milk is not vegan, no chicken is not vegan". But, not here. Our server was not 100% sure on a couple items we inquired about, and made sure to ask the kitchen how veganizing them would be. We ended up ordered the Garden Salad with the Mediterranean vinaigrette, Tapas Patatas without cheese and the Hungry Gardener pizza on gluten free crust with no cheese. The crust was perfect, not dry like a saltine cracker like I have experienced at other restaurants. Great pizza and salad joint! And I should not say joint - this is a magnificent building! He ordered three pizzas for six people - two large pizzas and one small. It worked out quite well, and we had a little bit left over. We also ordered a family-sized garden salad, though it was a spinach salad prepared like a garden salad. All very good. The only thing I want about our experience is that we were a bit nickel and dimed for grated cheese and salad dressing.
