Crust was thin and perfectly cooked, edges were thick and doughy. Mozzarella cheese was generous and sausage was really, really good. There were other toppings, but frankly, I can't remember what they were. I was mesmerized with the crust and cheese. Pizza sauce was thin, the way I like it. Our waitress, Sam, was great. Very attentive and always giving us updates as to when the pizza would come out. Now, pay attention... the place is very busy. We waited 40 minutes for our pizza on a Friday night so be patient. Parking is at a premium. Suggest you park across the street at the vacant gas station. Highly recommend without any reservations. Go early and enjoy the action. Use to love the place but last 2 times was not pleasant a year apart figured I would give them a second chance. First time wasn't that bad just got smaller portions and wasn't quite as good no big deal. Anytime I'm cross the Midwest from FL to IL or ID to SC, I find myself spending at least one night in Paducah. For the longest time, Starnes BBQ was my go-to, but this vacation is pizza-focused. Enter Pizza by the Pound! First off, they don't deliver. If you find the menu online, it says nothing about delivery. We called to make sure and they confirmed, no delivery. Not a big deal but wanted to share the confirmation. We placed our order for take out and began the 40-minute wait. The location was interesting as it almost felt like a house converted in a neighborhood into a restaurant. We passed all the house and found it! Walking inside, the place was confusing yet enticing. It had a bar/diner feel to it. If I lived here, I'd be a townie here. It almost had a "Cheers" vibe. Our pizza was ready, and we left post haste. We ordered a medium deep-dish Canadian bacon and pineapple, a small thin crust, and friend mac-and-cheese bites: The thin crust was just ok. Wouldn't order it again. Plenty of cheese and sauce. Limp-willy crust. Had to try it but it's a pass. Fried mac-and-cheese bites were great! Not a mac-and-cheese fan but these were good. They came with what felt like homemade ranch which was super tangy. The ranch was almost too tangy, but I found it balanced the bites and deep-dish crust very well. The deep-dish. OH, THE DEEP-DISH! The back of the crust came with honey which was totally odd for us and we weren't a fan. However, the pizza itself tasted amazing, had an epic amount of cheese, and the sauce was just savory enough. We were starving so I took a pic of what was left after I was compelled to write this review. I recommend this place to anyone who is in doubt. Definitely would not recommend. We arrived at 715, it didn't seem like it was too busy. We got seated at a dirty table. The waitress brought menus, took our drink orders and remembered to clean the table when she brought our drinks. We ordered an appetizer, but it was delivered to a table that arrived 30 minutes after us so they remade it and didn't charge us. That was nice. But when our food finally arrived (one pizza and a patty melt with fries) a little over an hour after we got there--they had put onions on our kid's patty melt. That was the only special request we had. I took it back and she apologized, remade it and didn't charge us. It took 45 minutes to make a plain patty melt. So we ended up asking for it to go. It seemed like the kitchen staff was doing more hanging out, walking around than cooking. While kudos to our waitress for trying to make things right, Our kid didn't get to eat until after 930. read more

Wow! What a great place. This is by far the top 3 pizza places I have ever been to. They have the cheers feel With the 50's nostalgic decor. The pizza was pepperoni, sausage, bell pepper, and onion. You can taste the fresh bell pepper and onion. They were crisp and not cooked to mush. The sauce was flavorful and zesty. The crust is by far the star of the deep dish. They have honey on the table to add to the crust that is fluffy and buttery. It is a perfect combo of savory and sweet. Must go here if you are in need of a pizza fix. We were in Paducah looking at the town as a potential place to live and went in to order takeout for dinner (could not eat in since we had a dog with us). I ordered the catfish and was told that was no longer on the menu. The waitress gave me a menu with the catfish not on the menu. I saw the catfish on their website - if you are going to change the menu it is a good practice to update the website. Once I looked over the menu it took about 10 minutes to get someone to take the order. I ordered a patty melt that was nothing special. I've eaten pizza all over the world, and PBTP is honestly not like any pizza I've ever had. It doesn't have a style. It just is what it is. And what it is, is delicious. I prefer the thin crust, but what they are known for is the thick which is not deep dish, but more like a homemade Papa John's. Great big breadstick style crust. We drive through Kentucky at least once, if not twice a year on my road trip home for the holidays. Normally we just eat at Rafferty's across from the hotel but I wanted something different and this place looked like it. The place is amazing, I just wasn't that impressed by the pizza. The sauce was too sweet for me, I prefer a tangy sauce, and the pizza dough was just bread to me, and not that exciting. I didn't try the wings, so I can't comment there as I didn't want to order a pizza and wings as the pizzas are pretty huge.. The decor is funny as its either Elvis or Marilyn Monroe. We live in Paducah and some of our friends have recommended Pizza By The Pound. Why?? We couldn't figure it out. It took a bit for us to be seated, but it's a small place and it was Friday night so that was expected. When they asked what we wanted to drink, my wife asked if they had any IPA beers. Our waitress seemed as if she had never heard of an IPA and reiterated that they have domestic beers like Bud Light and Michelob Ultra. It took almost an hour after we ordered to get two small pizzas and a calzone, and the calzone had the wrong toppings inside. The waitress asked if she could make it right, but I just decided to share my wife's pizza. The toppings were pretty sparse and the crust had vurtually no flavor. The atmosphere of the restaurant could definitely be appealing to certain people, but don't come here if you want flavourful pizza and more than a handful of beer options. We eat at Mellow Mushroom fairly often and wanted to try a local pizza place, but unfortunately we'll be staying away from Pizza By The Pound. read more

Great little neighbourhood bar. Nice people, quaint, eclectic decor of mostly Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. I'm going to try and be as nice as possible for two reasons. 1. The people really were nice and seemed like they genuinely cared about my experience for my first time visit. 2. I like little neighbourhood spots like this. Makes me feel at home and welcomed. My wife and I came here off of previous recommends from other "local" yelpers. At first glance I'm happy and excited. I've seen pictures and been told what to expect. The mozzarella breadsticks presentation wise look wonderful, exactly what I was expecting. However in my past experience as a cook and server myself. I would've never served them. Look: they looked exactly how they are pictured. Wonderful cheesy bread that makes your mouth water, until I turned them over. Burnt to a black charred mess. Again I would've never served them. Feel: dense heavy, not at all light and fluffy like I was expecting. Hard, stiff and what you would expect from old burnt bread. Taste: don't waste your time. I was genuinely excited to taste these but they're tough, like day old bread. It really reminded me of sbarro how they make the pizza ahead of time and then reheat it really quick in the oven. Did I already say don't waste your time? Even drunk I would've known this was an utter failure. The cook should be ashamed plain and simple. The waitress redeemed them by obviously taking them off the bill. I didn't ask her too, as I never ask anyone too do anything so obvious. I ordered blue moon on tap and it was room temperature. Not cold and in the smallest mug I think they could find. Enough of that lets get on to the good stuff. The pizza! We weren't starving so we thought it better to order a medium, since we're staying in a hotel nearby. No room for leftovers. The presentation was wonderful, great smell. The pizza looks good. It actually does taste good. "Good" not great, not fabulous. Nothing I would travel here just for this pizza. I would however recommend this to anyone who likes drinking alcohol and smoking a lot or a little weed and has the munchies. If I'm drunk I could see this being the perfect spot to get pizza. It's better then all the chain places we're all used to. All in all I don't recommend going out of your way to eat here. I do however emphasize to the local drunk or stoner you'll be fine. Come on in they'll welcome you with open arms and serve you some local drunk munchies. If you're just looking for something different or somewhere to eat Paducah has a lot more restaurants in the area you can go try. Well I feel bad but I don't. I want to like this place I do. This is another of Paducah's secret local places! It doesn't look fancy on the outside but don't let that fool you. As I was sitting there the other day thinking about how to describe this restaurant I noticed the clientele. Sitting at the bar having lunch was a man that worked at the electric company right next to him was one of Paducah prominent doctors. It goes to show you this is a place for everyone. It's tucked away in a little neighborhood area so use you GPS to find it. The food is great and there is a variety of items. There is also liquor sold here. I love the pizza "IN" a Portabella mushroom. My friend Sandra ordered a hamburger and it looked great!! We even ordered a sandwich made into a calzone. This restaurant is the best at accommodating your needs! There is an outdoor seating and is dog friendly! The staff is awesome. We found ourselves in Paducah for the night while traveling. My daughter started reading reviews of local near by places. Pizza By The Pound stood out as a well reviewed local favorite. Based on the reviews we made our way to P.B.T.P. When we first pulled in I will admit I was immediately hesitant, but you hate to judge a book by its cover, so we made our way inside. I wish I could say things got better once we got inside. Wow, could this place ever benefit from a make over. At this point I felt committed to giving it it's day in court. Many of the online reviews had mentioned terrible service but good food. So we settled in for an expected long wait. Turns out the service was top notch. Everything came out fast and our server couldn't have been more attentive. Now, I'm done b*tching and moaning. I don't care what the place looks like. I would eat this pizza if it were served in a back alley on top of a trash can. This is without a doubt the best pizza I have ever had. The deep dish crust is surprisingly thin under the toppings and huge, delicious, and honey butter brushed around the back edge. Do not let the shabby exterior or dated decor scare you away from this experience. The appetizer platter was also good, but honestly, save room for more pizza. I get it, I totally get it- this is good pizza. Did I mention that this is good pizza? I need you to understand that you have to have it at least once in your life. I called in our order for take out on 12/5/16- see my picture for the proof. Their traditional crust is good esp. dunked in honey! Is your mind blown b/c mine was- I had never thought to dunk or drizzle honey on my pizza crust but this has forever changed my life. They give plenty of toppings which I love AND they offer anchovies (if those salty little swimmers suit your fancy). My husband said it's definitely a dive bar which both of us like esp. if the food is legit. Sadly, we will not be having Pizza by the Pound again as we are in the process of moving and just stopped here in Paducah for a brief stay.
