If you go to Pizza Box and order plain, or something boring like that...just get away from me. This place is awesome for its specialty pizza slices! Its standard stuff is just as great but who would want just plain pizza when you can get a slice that is covered in multiple meats, chicken alfredo style slices, or the "Michael Jackson" (my favorite) thats slathered in franks hot sauce and ranch dressing? Their pizza is delicious, especially the Sicilian variety. Very crunchy and flavorful. Ask for fresh garlic on your pies!! One of the best things to get added that people often overlook. I was in there today and I'm pretty sure the owner made me one of the best italian sausage sandwiches I've had in my life. Came with spinach, broccoli rabe, fresh garlic, and peppers. One of the best sandwhiches if not the best I've had from a pizza joint. You should go here. Prices are a little on the high side, but I do get the student discount. This is the best pizza place to go in town. Always love the friendly service provided by the workers and a cozy dine-in experience. They got some unique specialty pizzas that you wouldn't be able to get in other places. They got free zeppole by the door, so you can munch on that as you wait for your pizza. The downside is that they only accept cash, but it is more than worth the experience. Oh, and if you are Westminster Theological Seminary student, you can get some benefits of that! *Last time I was there, they offered free fries because they made an error with the order and was taking longer than usual. We loved our last visit to Pizza Box and their fabulous cheesesteaks, but last night we got a batch that just didn't stand up. We've gotten fantastic cheesesteaks here before with generous amounts of cheese, but these were extremely skimpy. The cheese had been prepoured in the roll in very small amounts and much of the wizz vanished into the bread. You could barely taste it. Very disappointing. Other reviewers have mentioned the availability of fresh garlic. I can't recommend it. We had it on one of our sandwiches and (despite being a fan of intense flavors) I found it choked all other flavor out. I believe they used an entire clove and only very coarsely chopped it. Yuck. I will say that the bread was good, but none of the sandwiches would bring me back. We normally love their food, but I can't afford $40 off-nights. Oh, and take credit cards. I stopped in here today after an outing with a friend and her daughter. We were a ungry crowd and were lured in by the recommendation of someone who raved about the complimentary donuts that were offered at this establishment. We ordered parmigiana chicken, a veggie medley sandwich, a cheesesteak and a slice of pizza. Everyone was beyond content. This is a standard pizza shop, but they offered lots of pizza topping options that easily meet anyone's needs + a bunch of sandwich options. The staff was very welcoming. When they saw that e had a hold with us, a high chair was immediately offered and the slice of pizza was cut into 10 easily small-hand managed pieces. Thanks! Everyone was wearing masks and gloves. Hand sanitizer is available in a contact free container. The place is big, open and clean. The food is excellent!! We got a chicken parm stuffed pizza for my grandsons birthday. They said it was delicious and will feed them all for at least 2 nights ! They also loved the mac n cheese bites and wings. My tuna salad was fabulous with generous scoops of tuna, mozzarella balls, chick peas, roasted peppers, marinated mushrooms and lots of fresh veggies. Two large garlic rolls came with it! This is our steak sandwich and pizza go to place but know that everything is delicious! They even have family dinner specials, which I can't wait to try. Pizza Box is a Glenside institution. I've been coming here for years and the pizza is the best around. While the atmosphere is like your typical pizza joint, the staff are super friendly and if it's nice out you can sit on the back deck. Oh, and the deck does overlook a parking lot and storage units, so you might want to face the building if you eat outside:) But, if the taste of your pizza is what matters most, Pizza Box is your place. The place that started it all for me was the Box. Their pizza was a friday night staple since they were down the street next to the Wawa. At the ripe age of 14 I began my career at the Pizza Box answering phones, making hoagies and cheesesteaks, and working the register. 15 years later Im still in a restaurant 7 nights a week. The patriarch of the empire, Angelo, is an amazing man with an undeniable work ethic and great charm and charisma. He puts everything he has into his family and his business, and it shows. The food at Pizza Box is amazing, their Sicilian is one of the best pies in the area, and the Stallone (cheesesteak stuffed pizza) is fantastic. Hoagies and salads are all prepared with fresh ingredients, and their daily specials are a nice change of pace from normal pizzeria fare. I don't get back out to the old G-side often, but when I do this is a must-stop for a slice and some garlic knots. read more

First time to the Pizza Box. A Wednesday night about 7PM. It was crowded, so we decided to get the pizza to go. We got the Schwarzenegger. Lotsa meat. The pizza was huge, like Arnold. Since it was just my wife and I, this pizza is good for three meals at least. This round crust pizza is not too think and not too thin. A little soft in the middle, but crusty at the edge. I give it a very good rating. I would go again. The prices seem high, b it the portions are big. You could easily feed a family of four with one pizza. The waitress was friendly and chatted us up. Nice for a first time. It is a real locals place. With the exception of a few college kids, everyone seemed to know each other. I think we stood out as newbies, but this has happened at other Glenside restaurants. Glenside is that kind of town. They know if you are not a local. You get the look. While we waited I scoped the whole menu. Very extensive with Italian and Philly themes. The special were less that $10 and included garlic knots and a small salad. Not bad. I'm not going to review the regular pizza at pizza box. It is solid and worth getting. But it isn't anything special. I'm here to talk about their Margherita specialty pizza. It is sicilian style, but thinner crust. The sauce is very good, very thin and fresh slices of mozzarella are melted on top, and shredded basil is on top of that. The pizza is delicious. The absolute best part about Pizza Box are the amazing specialty slices - we like to go and pick out whatever looks yummy. Anything with grilled veggies is amazing, the Stallone (stuffed cheesesteak) is very tasty, and I had a shrimp slice once that still makes my mouth water. I love their tuna hoagies as well, and be sure to get the fresh (and free!) doughnuts on the counter. It's cash only, but they have an ATM and Wawa is right down the street. I ordered a pizza over the phone. when I went to pick it up I found out that they do not accept credit cards - something they should have mentioned when I ordered. Their ATM charges $1.75 + my banks fees for a foreign ATM. While I do not know why they choose to not take credit cards, many times when a business does this it is so they can not report income, and avoid paying their fair share of taxes. If this is the case, then not only did I get hit for a $1.75 (of which Pizza Box likely gets a portion), my bank fees, but I also end up having to pay more than my fair share of taxes as well! We ordered dinner last night and we were not disappointed! My daughter had the Madonna sandwich and loved it! I had a slice of Sicilian pizza with sausage and mushrooms and it was definitely the best pizza that I have had in a long time! I went to high school up the street from here so I would come here often with friends. I always thought the pizza was mediocre & over priced for what it was. In addition I always got a bad vibe from the people that work there. They seem impatient when you're unsure what to order, sometimes I even got a weird face from them, making me feel completely uncomfortable. Earlier this evening, I called to hear what the wait-time would be in about and hour. The girl told me 30 mins and gave me an attitude, but when I called back, they told me I had to wait an hour and a half! This was the first place suggested to us when we moved to glenside. Boxes all over, stuff all turned up etc we were starving and looking for somewhere good, but fast. The catch - cash...but they are pick-up or eat -in only. This to me was a clue they must be fairly good. They are. Not he BEST I ever had, though in response to the other yelper comparing to NYC pizza...Philly Pizza and NY Pizza are a little different....close but yeah maybe the water. Next to Roman Delight this is the best in the area by far. The guys in the shop are great - typical family pizza joint..all spitting italian back and forth...feels good. Only complaint is I wish they made homemade meatballs. They do buy the best ones you can buy, they are good...but still.... Worth the drive when you want pizza and not just take out. Meh...Don't get what the hype is all about. Tried today for the fist time and let me tell you, what a disappointment. We opted for 2 slices (one chicken parm and one chicken buffalo) and a white with ricotta, garlic and oil. Me and the wife split the slices so I used my pizza cutter (no 100% Italian should be without) and we had some issues cutting and that kind of raised a doubt... So here we get to taste it, the dough is horrid, hard to chew I feel like I've been eating gum for about 12 hours. The chicken on the parm slice was passable not much flavor on the sauce and cheese. The buffalo was worst, the chicken was so dry that I wonder if it wasn't yesterday pie. On the contrary the white one had a good flavor with no overtone of garlic, the blend of cheese was very very good. But, and that is a big one, the crust is absolutely impossible to chew. Our jaws have been put through the ringer. Not finishing the large pie and will end up in the bin. Highly doubt it that tomorrow is going to be any edible. The zeppole taste good, but again they are hard to chew, no surprise since is fried dough. I'm Italian born and bread and let me tell you if you make this pizza over there you will be out of business in a weeks time. All in all awful experience, I can guarantee that I will not be a repeat customer. Too many better pizza parlours in the area to patronize this one. Oh and they are expensive...A LOT! read more
