First night in Prague, and we wanted to try local cuisine. Quite honestly, I have always thought of…read moreCzech food as hearty, which has never been my preference. I had beef neck sous-vide with a lager. The beef was accompanied by a poached egg, bread dumplings, and a dill sauce. I was expecting something heavy, but it wasn't. It was really excellent. So fun to try new foods when traveling.

TLDR: there are better options for food and beer. I came here because the reviews were excellent,…read morehowever, I wasn't the biggest fan. We ordered the beef cheeks, which were served cold (likely as intended but not what I was expecting). Flavor was fine but not great. The burger was also just okay. For something so standard, it was passable but not likely to order again. Our favorite dishes were 1) the duck and 2) potato and vegetable patties. Duck was crispy, hot, and had pretty good flavor! The vegetable patties were also crispy and balanced, slightly sweet. The beer list was limited but we liked what we ordered. Hate to be a broken record but we've had better while in the city. Wouldn't recommend this place to a friend since it was just average.

Don't come in with inappropriate expectations and you'll be happy. This is a beer hall, not a fine…read moredining restaurant. The food is here to keep you busy and to slow down how fast you get drunk. Order bar food - fries, sausages, fried cheese- and you'll be great. Order a whole meal and well, you get the picture. The beer is good and the shots may or may not be to your taste. No, they're not free. Why would a beer hall give away alcohol? However, the word "no" is perfectly acceptable if you don't want a shot or another beer. The staff doesn't care whether or not you order beer. I got bottled tea and I saw others drinking coffee. No hassles. Atmosphere is kicka**. On a nice day the outdoor tables are lovely. The interior has to be seen to be believed. If you tried to conjure up a fairytale Bohemian tavern you couldn't come up with something better than this. Stay as long as you like and enjoy the accordion music and the vibe. And this is from someone who doesn't drink alcohol and doesn't much care for Central European food.

I ordered the Moravian Sparrow which was tasty and 2 of the light beers (they have only 2 choices...light or dark). A staff member came by as I was enjoying my meal with a tray of shots and I declined. He then began to argue with me for over a minute while I kept telling him no. He was very pushy and I did not appreciate having to say "no" more than once, let alone 5 times. Overall, the food was good, but I was off put by the pushy staff.

It was honestly just like my grandmother's cooking when I was young. Brought me back. This was my…read morefirst real Czech meal and I loved every bit of it. I had a garlic soup that was really tasty to start. I had the salad with pork tenderloin (meat cooked and tasted perfectly, seasoned just right). I was under the weather so it really hit the spot. Menu is in 4 different languages. (English included yay). For my main I had the beef goulash. I don't eat bread much anymore but I used it to get every single last bite of the sauce. It was that good. Place is cute and homey for a little bar. Lots of locals which I loved. The staff was really friendly. They got busy toward the end and less attentive but that's because 40+ kids showed up at once in the end. (Glad I ordered early ). Also prices were super reasonable for what you get! Will definitely be back!

A lot of the more "touristy" areas are and I can only imagine this was open because of the proximity to the Gehry Dancing House, almost within eyesight of this place. It's a small place, and thankfully was not crowded just before 18:00. Seemed like mostly Czech people; the locals were getting a bit loaded but really just enjoying themselves on the holiday. Had to have the goulash before leaving Prague. To be honest, I'm not sure that I've ever had it... Certainly not in Prague, so I have nothing to compare it to. Basically a really rich and thick beef stew without the stuff that Americans add in. Price was good.
