It's the oldest and most famous brewery in Prague, established in 1499. They are known for their dark beer. The complex of buildings includes, many dining halls, a beer garden, a cabaret theatre. They seat 1200 people! They also have roving musicians, so there's always music in every area. They only have two beers and they walk around with them on trays and just drop em off on your table, they also walk around with trays full of brandy shots. We had one of each beer (even though they kept trying to drop off more) and one of each shot (and yep they kept trying to drop those off too). For dinner we ordered the goulash and Greek salad. The beef in the goulash was tender and the rich gravy it was served in was delicious; it also came with bread dumplings? Stopped by for lunch as it's the oldest brewery and had a lot of expectation, but it was decent. Order the beer with the beer staff (the ones carrying the drinks) and food is ordered with the other staff members. The beer guy brought dark beers, but I declined and had to wait to order the light beer. They all assume you drink dark and if you don't, you get the funny look. I got the knuckle, but here, the skin was soft and not crispy like other places that I had it. The meat was tender and I enjoyed it at lot, but wasn't fan of the pork skin, but it is what it is. Right when seated the servers come around for drink orders but they're usually holding a tray of shots. Definitely start off with one or two of those. The food was reasonable, though no better or worse than a lot of other places we'd visited: the "Moravian sparrow" (pork) was your standard Czech "meat-in-sauce over dumplings" and a Greek salad. Americans be advised: lettuce is not necessarily the base of a salad (this was cucumbers, tomatoes, red and yellow peppers, and feta cheese). One warning: they assume that anyone going to a 15th century beer pub is there to...drink beer. U Fleků is the oldest brewery & pub in Prague, having been around for over 500 years. It's still filled with medieval style beer halls with great atmosphere. We were welcomed by an older gentleman upon entering this famous pub, and promptly seated in an area with a musician playing accordian. Only one beer is on tap, and it's their special dark lager that's been brewed since 1499. The unique taste is quite interesting, and you can't go wrong with this original brew. Conveniently, mugs of beer are brought forth to tables by a waiter making the rounds. Also, their traditional Czech food was surprisingly well-prepared. The roast pork and beef goulash were both tender with a good balance of flavors. Given its popularity with locals and tourists, expect to pay menu prices that are a little more than typical in town. I noticed most of the reviews saying that the restaurant is a tourist trap, mainly because they encourage you to take drinks. We were offered a lot of drinks but declined when we didn't want any more and had no problem. I didn't think they were overly pushy. I had the pork knuckle, which was delicious. Although it was my first pork knuckle, and I can only compare it to NC and Texas BBQ, it seemed to be perfectly cooked. Juicy, tender, fall off the bone, etc. Paired with mustard and horseradish along with chopped cabbage and pearl onions, it was great. My girlfriend got the goulash, which was also good in my opinion. I had a couple of the dark lagers, which may have been one of the best dark lagers I've had, although my experience with them is limited. Overall I thought the restaurant was really cool, we had live tuba and accordion music played in our section of the dining hall and the vibes were upbeat and fun. Pretty tourist trap place if you ask me This place seems like it was designed to suck money out of its patrons. Waiters kept coming around with trays of beer and other beverages for guests to take and immediately wrote down the drinks on the bill as soon as they were touched. One of the waiters lingered at our table even after we declined more drinks and basically forced us to take more because "it's tradition". The food is like any other food you can get at the dozens of Czech places around. This is a fun place! You walking in the place smells like Czech food. As you wander through the various rooms on the way to your table which are long communal tables, you will see lots of people drinking beer and doing shots and a guy playing the accordion so that everybody can sing along, except me because I don't speak the language. Whoops. So in our visit the place was totally packed, the menu is quite limited but they do what they do very well. I think we ordered basically one of everything and it was plenty of food. The beer cheese is not what you think it is it's more like a cheese spread and you have to rub a piece of raw garlic on your toast first before you put the beer cheese on. Makes for a stinky day but the flavor is pretty good. All the food that we tried had good deep flavors. They put this little paper on the table and every time you order drinks they just mark it on the paper and you take that paper up to the register to pay. They serve one kind of beer the kind they make there and it's dark and flavorful. So that's what you drink because that's what everybody drinks. By the way it's cheaper than a bottle of water which comes in like a six or 8 ounce glass bottle for like three bucks. They also have a person walking around with trays of shots they have two kinds of shots and I can't remember exactly what they are however one was like a honey mead liquor and the other was some kind of herbal Liqueur which tasted like medicine but apparently is quite popular. The restaurant is 800 yrs old. We were seated right away. The waiters come around with trays of beers (although they only have one kind, my friends says they were delicious). It's a bit crowded, and touristy, but I loved this place! It's the oldest brewery/brewpub in Prague, since 1499! This place churns out a dark beer, which tastes a lot like Shiner Black 97, if you're from Texas, you know what I mean. It's a delicious beer, not too strong. While you're eating, they come around and sell shots of honey wine, which is strong, sweet, and floral. The entire time I was here, they had accordion players working in shifts, wandering around taking requests, jamming out, and just playing random polkas. The tourists seem to be seated in the back Cabaret room, with communal seating, and the locals are seated in an old wooden room up front. This place is so iconic, they have a little gift shop up at the front! While there, be sure to check out the restrooms. There's a woman in a little room with a small window that maintains the men's restroom and accepts gratuities for the restroom cleanliness. The food is prepared quickly! 5 stars for the beer and atmosphere. We didn't go for food. I really enjoyed U Fleků, we went because it was highly recommended. The beer is outstanding, for sure the best dark beer I've ever had. They only serve their ONE beer that they brew and it's amazing. It's overpriced (59 CZK or $2.67), which is double, almost triple the price of beer that you'd get anywhere else in Prague, but worth it! You barely even have to order it because the waiters walk around with a giant tray of about 20 filled glasses, handing them out. And they keep a tally on your table with how many you've had. Simple and perfect since there's only one option. The place is huge, multiple beer halls with tons of communal seating. We sat outside in the garden and it was so fun and beautiful. Music, people dancing, lively atmosphere for sure. Can't comment on the food because as I said, we didn't go for that, just the beer. But from what I saw, it was typical Czech cuisine. TOURIST TRAP - stay away! Seriously this is the type of place I hate going to whilst traveling, but I was told about it by four or five people who swore that while the place wasn't the best for food the beer was worth a quick stop for the experience. The service is overly aggressive for really bad beer. Drank one pint and before I could get down to the second half of it was asked 5x if I wanted another one. Where do I begin... all the tourists are put in the back room and locals in the front of restaurant. They come to your table right away pushing beer and honey wine. We asked for 3 different things on the menu and they no longer offer them - change and update it ! They food is mass produced, and was served in 5 minutes but it was barely warm and pork was fatty, duck was dry , and beef was tough. Live accordion music pleasant- the building itself is unique considering it's the oldest restaurant in Prague - over 600 yrs old.
