Chicken schnitzel with potatoes
Stephanie S.

Tasty dinner. It's down a quiet alley, has some outdoor seating. Typical Pilsners on tap. I had the chicken schnitzel for dinner. It was delicious, cooked perfectly. It came with mashed potatoes that were the most delicious I have had, super creamy and smooth. Everyone enjoyed their meal. A good dinner for the last night in Prague.

Meat platter

The meat platter was excellent. The sausage, duck, and pork were all good. The compliments of the dumpling, potato, gravy, and cabbage made the meal perfect. Add a pint of the local beer and you have yourself a very traditional Czech meal. The ambience of local music and local decor added an extra authentic notch. Service was very friendly and prompt. Highly recommend.

Fantastic place I found this place on yelp when I was looking for traditional Czech food. We started with the Beer cheese-nothing special but it had a perfect little taste to it. It came with a little side car of beer as well Paprika sausage-the mustard and the horseradish complimented this dish perfectly Beef goulash-delicious and hearty. It had a hint of cinnamon or cardamom in the sauce that gave it that extra pizzazz Duck with cabbage and dumplings. This was the real deal and it was amazing! Duck was perfectly cooked and the different kinds of cabbage and dumplings was great. One was like a potato style dumpling. Bread style. All fantastic. There is a little area outside with booths for a perfect Prague setting. We loved it.

We had a great time here. It was busy outside but empty and dark inside. We decided to wait for a table outside. I love watching the world go by, which was good because we waited for a very long time to eat once we sat. We had good beer (a really nice list) and good company so we didn't care. My husband noted that the waiter had numerous cigarettes while we waited for our food and we had to work hard to get his attention for more beer as well. We did hear a big crash in the kitchen halfway into waiting for our food. I suspect we lost a dish or two. The food was good once it arrived and we were famished. We had spent a long wonderful day at the Prague Castle.

Duck, dual sauerkrauts.

Awesome. Found this via yelp. Ate at another 'traditional czech' the day prior and were underwhelmed so we were happy to give a second go. Garlic soup, awesome. And strong. Just like God intended. Duck with dual sauerkrauts and dumplings, perfect. Goulash, near perfect. Some extra zing than most. Venison with the show stealer...mashed pumpkin! Amazing and delicious...everything! I will never eat plain mashed potatoes again. Service was excellent though the place was packed. We were one of two tables of tourists. The rest were locals. This place is a standout!

Braised ribs and Sopsky Insalat

Too full to write a complete review at the moment.... But do NOT miss this place if you ever find yourself in the Mala Strana area of Prague.

Soup in a bread bowl! Hearty and delicious! Perfect for a chilly day!

Traditional Czech cuisine done right! A great place, tucked away off the Main Street that leads to the castle. We did a quick search for places to eat around the castle and I'm so glad we found ourselves here! We ordered a series of meat dishes but the star of the night was definitely the braised ribs. So juicy and tender! If I had to pick a death row meal, I'd pray this would be on the table! Served with mustard and fresh horseradish. I also thoroughly enjoyed the potato soup in the bread bowl. My friends and I ordered an app, a main , a couple sides and two pints of beer each and our bill was under $20usd per person. I think this may have been the best meal of our trip! The staff weren't super friendly and the waiter seemed preoccupied but man did the food make up for the service! I have sent every one of my friends who have travelled to Prague here and none have regretted it!

Baked Czech duck

Restaurant is located on a pedestrian only street. Have to walk uphill on Trziste a bit before you see it on the side. Traditional old school pub-like setting with wooden benches and tables. Very laid back and chill. Also, not too much lighting. There's free Wifi with solid connection. Service staff are pretty nice. FYI, cash only (Euro or CZK) so I had to go to an ATM to withdraw currency. Food wise, I had the beef bouillon and baked Czech duck with a half liter of Pilsner Urquell. Afterwards, got the Czech plum dumplings with butter and breadcrumbs. The Czech dishes were unique and not something I'm used to, but fairly delicious. Would recommend to tourists staying in the Mala Strana area.

The pub is situated a few minutes' walk from the castle and cathedral at the top of the hill in Hradčany, just opposite the Loreto church. It's easy to find as the exterior has impressive baroque murals. Inside, it's rather plainer, with painted walls, simple, dark wooden benches and a tiled floor. Although it's location inevitably means that it's full of tourists, it makes few concessions to them: this is essentially a beer bar, and the main draw is its excellent Velkopopvicky Kozel beer, in light (tmavé) and dark (světly) variants, as well as Pilsner Urquell, all served in 0.5l glasses. They serve a limited range of hearty Czech snacks, including some vegetarian items (various forms of cheese). The staff are efficient and workmanlike rather than especially friendly; expect a hard stare if you just have one beer! Locals tend to sit at the front, with visitors at the back. However, the old-fashioned feel means that it is one place you really ought to try is you're in the area, and it makes a great antidote to the touristy crush of the castle. If it's open, stroll afterwards to the Loreto church, one of Prague's most over-the-top Baroque creations and containing the body of St Wilgefortis - a few beers to fortify you first may not be a bad idea, in fact! It's quite a hike up the hill to the Hradčany area, but trams 22 and 23 will take you (via a scenic, circuitous route) to within a few hundred metres, making the climb for you!
