When you roll up to this tucked away spot, it already reminded me of an European cottage. It was a rainy afternoon so stepping inside the cafe area where you check in for the reservation was so warm and cozy. Their staff seemed happy to be there and we were greeted with the same warmth the cafe exuded. Getting into the spa was easy but you do have to make a reservation either over the phone or by walking in. Do note: if you want an hour with the sauna and hot tub, you have to tell them when booking. They will book you for an hour but for only one or the other if you don't tell them. I loved our time soaking in the hot tub. We had the best time and ended up buying the 10 pack. Definitely will be back again, and again, and again.

Prices are unbelievably low. 2 people, 30 minutes, and two towels run $34. A large Thai, a large earl grey tea, and a chocolate baklava? That will be $8.50. Those are the lowest rates I've ever heard of. We will be back.

I have always had good experiences with any teachers here, but I must shout out Shemaia for her teaching methods in particular as hers is the class I attend most frequently. She melds together an active and yin practice so beautifully and really encourages us to do things in our practice that will help us age gracefully which I really appreciate. Of course you can't go wrong with any of the other teachers either, Peggy is an icon, Geneva brings the most juicy yin classes and Brother V's tea class is the only one of its kind around.

The Front Porch Inn is a coastal artesian dream. The hosts responded quickly and the instructions were very easy to follow. As soon as you enter through the gate you are greeted by the sanctuary of ponds, and flora and fauna. We stayed in the Hideout room; decorated in thoughtful 70's vintage decor, the room was clean and well supplied. The bed and linen were cooling and comfortable. We slept great. The only...only thing is that the shower is small, but they used the available space. Speaking of space, the private tub was WONDERFUL. Plenty of hot water. And the aptomsphere was unbelievably romantic and relaxing. With the amount of vegetation around you may see a cobwebs or two, but in no way is it dirty or un-kept. We very much recommend The Front Porch Inn!

Jill at WholesomelyU is 100% doing her calling. She is exceptionally gifted at it…read more Her colon hydrotherapy brings me back to life. This is not an overstatement. I have a chronic horrible case of Lyme disease which I have lived with for many decades now. It completely debilitates me. Jill's treatments are magic for my body. They give my system a chance to clear the neurotoxins that build up in me. I can walk into her office truly suffering and come out having regained a remarkable level of vitality. It blows me away. She uses a gravity-fed water system which is sooo much more gentle and effective than the machine-fed systems in my experience. She also incorporates essential oils and is willing and skilled at palpating the belly if you are comfortable with that. Not all practitioners will offer this. I find it deepens the cleanse and so helps the colon to release especially if it is atonic or sluggish. She can literally help your colon not only release but tonify so it works better going forward. Win-win. Jill is a doll. She's easy-going, wise, earthy, fun, compassionate, and she walks her talk health and lifestyle-wise.  Being with her for an hour is part of the treatment. Breath of fresh air, she inspires me to live while I'm alive and be my best self. Her space reflects that too. It's super clean and beautifully decorated, classy and cozy. I come all the way from Piercy each time and it's worth every mile. Needless to say, I highly recommend WholesomelyU.

So I'm a mother of two, a teen daughter and a younger son, and I'm trying to get back in shape and…read morehopefully get them started on a healthier path too. Figured I'd check out some of the local gyms and see what's out there. I checked out health sport a couple weeks ago and wanted to share my experience. I live outside Arcata so first stop was the Arcata club. Idk, maybe it's fine for some people, but it kinda just felt like it was full of young meathead gym bros hovering around the weights and grunting. Front desk staff were friendly enough but the vibe inside just wasn't it for me. Weight room was honestly a little intimidating, especially when you're trying to bring your kids along. Then I checked out the McKinleyville club. It was super quiet and seemed clean, but also kinda boring? Not a lot going on there, like if you don't love cardio machines and weights. Not sure what else there really is to do. Might be fine if you just want a basic place to work out, idk yet. Then Eureka, locker rooms definitely needed some love. Pool had a bunch of stains at the bottom which just made it feel kinda gross. Crowd there seemed a little older though, which I actually liked better than the Arcata vibe. But good luck finding a staff member when you need one. Felt like nobody was around. Got roped into a "tour" by one of their sales guys as we wondered around. Dude's hair was all messed up like he just got up from a nap and looked like a gym bro in a polo. And worse, it looked like he was checking out my daughter whenever he thought I wasn't looking. Made me very uncomfortable and SO creepy. I finished the tour quickly and we left. I don't remember his name but if you go there, you'll know who I'm talking about. Will not be going back there. Heard they have a site down in Fortuna that's supposed to be nice but that's way too far for me, so not even gonna bother. Honestly not sure what my option is at this point. Arcata feels too much like a frat house, Eureka just feels sketchy, and McKinleyville, maybe?? I was told I could set up a trial so maybe I'll do that and see how it feels when I actually try to work out there. Guess we'll see. Anyway, that's my rant. Just wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent place to get a workout in without feeling weird or uncomfortable.

Great studio. The style of yoga taught here has foundations in 26+2, but Sean curates a practice…read moreentirely his own. Having done 26+2 and hot vinyasa at various studios across the country, I can say his classes are some of the most challenging I've ever encountered--if you want them to be. While his mastery and passion demonstrate what is possible for the human form, he cues the class in a way that is encouraging to beginners and builds on foundational movements; it truly feels like, and is, a class for any body. His lighthearted personality brings a sense of playfulness to the entire experience. One of the older reviews mentions a dungeon-like atmosphere and carpet... the current studio is beautiful, bright, and clean with natural hardwood floors. No showers available and only a single bathroom- the only reason I'd rate it 9.5/10 stars.

I can't say enough how much anger this gym causes me. The hours online say 24/7 which is a lie…read morebecause only part of the gym is accessible. A good portion of the gym closes including the locker room at 1pm on Friday which is crazy on a weekday. How greedy does the owners have to be to not be able to pay staff to stay later than 1pm? The last guy I interacted with that does work there when they are open is not too chill either. The whole energy at this location vs the others is bad, they have a big like 5 foot tall angry sign at the door when you enter that warns you they will cancel your membership if you open the door for someone and they happen to not be a member. So if a non member try's to enter the building behind you they expect you to act as security. What in the world?!? Hey healthsport I'm not your security I'm a member that pays a lot of money for your sub par shitty gym that closes all the locations too early. I bet the man that works there put that giant angry sign up probably without even consulting the owners or maybe the owners are really that bad and clueless. Pretty much all of their gyms always have something wrong and people are always complaining. The incompetence of the management staff has to be studied. For instance they keep the sauna temperature too low at the other locations which causes members to mess with the sauna which eventually breaks it. Usually takes a few weeks for them to fix it and the cycle goes on forever with people breaking it trying to turn it on higher. Management can't seem to figure that one out. There is no oversight over how good the staff is cleaning too so the bathrooms are filled with mold and it's pretty gross. Lots of dust on the gyms equipment. It's like the gym expects the members to do everything. Please do better healthsport.
