This is my favorite local yoga studio. They are extremely welcoming of ALL students regardless of experience.

Today I did Bikram style hot yoga at a different studio and it was great but NOTHING compared to Sean and Marjorie.

I had tried everything; massage, chinese cupping, chiropractor, acupuncture, myofascial release, herbs, dietary changes, western medicine and still was suffering everyday. I scheduled a private consult with Robyn and in our very first session, not only was I was completely relieved of pain, she was able to restore range of motion in my neck and best of all, she taught me how to maintain my pain free status with exercises I could do at home. After a couple more 1:1 visits I was able to start exercising again so naturally I began attending yoga classes at Inner Freedom Yoga. I love the Anusara style of yoga that they teach, their focus on proper alignment, the use of props and the way they help everyone to feel comfortable no matter your prior experience with yoga, or lack there of. I love Robyn's classes and have been pleasantly surprised when she has been out of town and I got to experience the other teachers too. I value the differences that each teacher brings to class - history, stories, the magic of a well placed tennis ball, words of wisdom, interesting points to reflect upon, and more. Namaste.

I have been taking Patrick and Robyn as instructors for Yoga I and Yoga 1-2+. I enjoy both of these instructors very much. Robyn is tender, her approach is restorative and and I can transition into poses with ease. Patrick's Tuesday night class has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zones for growth, and he is very sweet and supportive. I would recommend anyone to this wonderful space and take advantage of the great teachers and programs our community has to offer. The center offers mats, blankets, blocks and straps for anyone who doesn't have equipment. Music usually is lightly playing while the class is going, which I enjoy. Robyn offers 10 classes from IFY instructors for $85, which I took advantage of for sure!

Liz and Peggy's teaching shined a light on a path I had seen but never seriously considered taking. The encouragement to create our own classes using our unique gifts along with brainstorming ideas and sharing stories broadened my understanding of what yoga is and what it holds for me and those I work with. This training offered incredible gifts and gems. I really appreciated Liz and Peggy leading by example and holding space for us to breathe and learn. Thank you for reminding us to look with eyes of love! I can't wait to recommend this program and to return to Soma Yoga Institute. --Dawn Stern

They really cared about us as both individuals and new teachers. I really enjoyed the attention to detail in all things. The precise language and thoughtfulness in the design of the curriculum was spot on. I loved the idea of safety first in the asanas and understanding the anatomy, this is key. I left feeling prepared to teach and this is a direct result of everything Liz and Alison taught us. Thank you, Soma Yoga Institute, for preparing me to be successful.

So I'm a mother of two, a teen daughter and a younger son, and I'm trying to get back in shape and…read morehopefully get them started on a healthier path too. Figured I'd check out some of the local gyms and see what's out there. I checked out health sport a couple weeks ago and wanted to share my experience. I live outside Arcata so first stop was the Arcata club. Idk, maybe it's fine for some people, but it kinda just felt like it was full of young meathead gym bros hovering around the weights and grunting. Front desk staff were friendly enough but the vibe inside just wasn't it for me. Weight room was honestly a little intimidating, especially when you're trying to bring your kids along. Then I checked out the McKinleyville club. It was super quiet and seemed clean, but also kinda boring? Not a lot going on there, like if you don't love cardio machines and weights. Not sure what else there really is to do. Might be fine if you just want a basic place to work out, idk yet. Then Eureka, locker rooms definitely needed some love. Pool had a bunch of stains at the bottom which just made it feel kinda gross. Crowd there seemed a little older though, which I actually liked better than the Arcata vibe. But good luck finding a staff member when you need one. Felt like nobody was around. Got roped into a "tour" by one of their sales guys as we wondered around. Dude's hair was all messed up like he just got up from a nap and looked like a gym bro in a polo. And worse, it looked like he was checking out my daughter whenever he thought I wasn't looking. Made me very uncomfortable and SO creepy. I finished the tour quickly and we left. I don't remember his name but if you go there, you'll know who I'm talking about. Will not be going back there. Heard they have a site down in Fortuna that's supposed to be nice but that's way too far for me, so not even gonna bother. Honestly not sure what my option is at this point. Arcata feels too much like a frat house, Eureka just feels sketchy, and McKinleyville, maybe?? I was told I could set up a trial so maybe I'll do that and see how it feels when I actually try to work out there. Guess we'll see. Anyway, that's my rant. Just wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent place to get a workout in without feeling weird or uncomfortable.

I can't say enough how much anger this gym causes me. The hours online say 24/7 which is a lie…read morebecause only part of the gym is accessible. A good portion of the gym closes including the locker room at 1pm on Friday which is crazy on a weekday. How greedy does the owners have to be to not be able to pay staff to stay later than 1pm? The last guy I interacted with that does work there when they are open is not too chill either. The whole energy at this location vs the others is bad, they have a big like 5 foot tall angry sign at the door when you enter that warns you they will cancel your membership if you open the door for someone and they happen to not be a member. So if a non member try's to enter the building behind you they expect you to act as security. What in the world?!? Hey healthsport I'm not your security I'm a member that pays a lot of money for your sub par shitty gym that closes all the locations too early. I bet the man that works there put that giant angry sign up probably without even consulting the owners or maybe the owners are really that bad and clueless. Pretty much all of their gyms always have something wrong and people are always complaining. The incompetence of the management staff has to be studied. For instance they keep the sauna temperature too low at the other locations which causes members to mess with the sauna which eventually breaks it. Usually takes a few weeks for them to fix it and the cycle goes on forever with people breaking it trying to turn it on higher. Management can't seem to figure that one out. There is no oversight over how good the staff is cleaning too so the bathrooms are filled with mold and it's pretty gross. Lots of dust on the gyms equipment. It's like the gym expects the members to do everything. Please do better healthsport.
