Pilates has changed my life. I started going nine months ago to prepare for two major knee surgeries to strengthen my body to help with recovery. After my latest surgery in San Francisco, I came to Eureka to recover and wanted to continue pilates for the two months while in Humboldt. Susie Kidd, the owner and instructor, was not afraid to take me on and tailor instruction for my needs. I credit her training for helping me recover as well as I have and keep my entire body moving while on crutches. I am not the kind of person who normally takes exercise classes, but after a hysterectomy, I developed a pain in my abdomen that traditional medicine couldn't seem to alleviate. Out of pure desperation, I decided to try pilates at a studio in Manhattan where I was working at the time. Within a few weeks, I was feeling much better and enjoying all sort of additional benefits. Much like Jennifer N., I felt like pilates changed my life. Once I was back home in Humboldt, I sought out a local studio and found Sacred Bodies Pilates, which I found to be every bit as good as the one I attended in Manhattan -- and at nearly half the price. Owner and instructor Susie Kidd is a delight. Always professional and caring, she is knowledgeable and takes her job very seriously. If you've never tried pilates before, but are curious, Sacred Bodies Pilates is a great place to start. And if you're a veteran, Susie can definitely deliver a serious workout. read more

I've been a client of Susie Kidd since before her move to this beautiful studio...as busy as I get, I still prioritize her mat class into my schedule...Susie's knowledge and experience have been so helpful in tailoring the workout to my individual needs and have helped me rehab from injuries. I had tried weight training many times in the past, but I just never liked it enough to stay with it. After retiring a few years ago, I lost some excess weight and wanted to firm up. A friend mentioned they had tried Pilates and liked it. After taking a few initial classes in Arcata, I quickly decided I wanted to do Pilates on a more consistent basis, and that meant doing it in Eureka. I found Susie's website, contacted her, and set up my first session. I told Susie I knew I would never be (or want to be!) 20 again, but that I was interested in having the best 50+ body possible. She took my goal to heart, and I have been having private sessions with her 3 x week for over a year. Seeing that I tend to favor my right side, Susie consistently makes corrections to my form as I work out, so that each side of my body is worked equally, and the appropriate balance is maintained. As a result, I and my husband can definitely see the positive differences Pilates has made in my body and in my life! Susie knows her stuff, and constantly asks to make sure she is providing exactly what you want in terms of your fitness goals. I leave each session feeling like my body has been pleasantly "pushed," but I never feel sore or achy like I have with other forms of firming/toning exercise. And I am always eager to go back and do it again, which is an absolute first for me! Every time I get up from my final stretch, I say, "Ah, that felt really good!" In addition to her Pilates expertise, Susie is wise in many other modalities, so in our sessions together, we spend a lot of time sharing information about other things we've read about, tried, and learned from others. She is an incredible source of knowledge for me. Although I highly recommend Pilates in general, I can't recommend Susie highly enough.
