    vegan Eggplant Pizza

Was greeted as soon as I walked up to the counter. Ordered the vegan pizza to go. I only waited a couple minutes for my pizza, very quick and efficient service. The pizza itself was extremely flavorful!! Loved the roasted eggplant on the pizza. Crust was chewy and actually had flavor. Only thing missing for me was spice/heat, but I'll adjust my toppings accordingly next time. Will probably be back again this week before I go home. 10/10 for me.

Outstanding pizzas and side salads. Friendly staff and homemade pizza with fresh ingredients are the keys here to some of the best pizzas in Philadelphia. The spicy garlic pizza had excellent dough--chewy but able to be held up easily. The mixed green salad was outstanding as it included a side of fresh olives and cheese, fresh oil+vinegar dressing, fennel and radicchio--a really gratifying salad for a really great price. All pizzas run about $13-15 and are perfectly sized for 1 person and the side salads are for 2 people almost.

tl;dr while inconsistency is an issue, at its best, the trim selection of premium personal pies rivals any other Philly sit-down pizzeria Pitruco was originally established a decade ago as a pie-slinging food truck equipped with a traveling, wood-fired oven. The venture was met with pizza praise, and, more recently, the brand debuted its brick-and-mortar location years ago as an inaugural vendor within Franklin's Table, itself a spacious, industrial-chic food court. The room sports polished cemented floors, high ceilings with exposed HVAC, and accent lighting above the parallel rows of wooden picnic tables. Pitruco is on the right side of the space, nestled between DK Sushi and Goldie. The stall's marble counter is decked with succulents, seasoning shakers, and an iPad-powered register. The warm glow of the oven contrasts the cool globe lights dangling from above. The subway-tiled corner of the booth is home to the menu, listed in moveable 3D block letters on shelves above columns of pre-folded pizza boxes. The staff, each assigned a specific task, buzz around the small space, and crosstalk mixes with the clanging of kitchenware. Although I've been around the Penn campus for years, I had yet to commit to one of Pitruco's personal Neopolitan-style pies. But Pitruco has remained a seemingly consistent and popular option, withstanding both the pandemic and fickle Penn undergrads. So, as I continued to work my way through the Philly pizza scene, Pitructo progressed its way up my shortlist. Recently, a friend and I hosted a small get-together on campus, and we opted for a dozen Pitruco pies. We placed our order about 1.5 hours in advance, and the staff just about completed it right at our pickup time. Each 12" pizza was split into 4 slightly-too-large slices, and a single pie felt to be the appropriate size for a moderately hungry appetite. Immediately, I was drawn to the long-fermented dough, which achieved a flavorful tang with each bite. However, the thin crusts were cooked inconsistently among pies (potentially due to the demands of our semi-large order), from perfect chewy to overtly burnt to blatantly doughy. My favorite varieties were the Margherita, flexing a mildly sweet sauce well-complemented by a drizzle of olive oil, and the Spicy Garlic, which released an intoxicating garlic aroma as we peaked into the box and then followed it up with delicious richness and spice. Less memorable were the Cheese, standard and wholly one-dimensional, and the Radicchio, too heavy-handed in its commitment to earthy and bitter notes. Each pizza ran between $13-15 -- undoubtedly more expensive than the likes of Allegro or Axis, but a slick deal compared to similar pizzerias in Center City. While I don't see Pitruco's premium pies making their way into my regular lunchtime rotation, Pitruco, at its best, slings University City's tastiest pizza.

    Mushroom Pizza, Cheese Pizza

The artisan pies you get here are fresh, cheesy, crispy, and yummy. Definitely recommend the mushroom pie (lots of different cheeses and comes with yummy mushroom and scallions). The sauce is delicious and juicy but the pizza does tend to be on the saltier side. The sausage pizza is not as yummy in my opinion - it's a just as fresh and crunchy and cheesy but i wasn't a huge fan of the sausage, although it also comes with mushroom. Props to pitruco for the fresh pizzas!

Love the pizza here and excited to come back again soon! Other positives- the people are nice and pizza is reasonably priced too!!

Note that with the lunch menu, appetizers are not on the menu, but because we were eating later and because maybe of our party size, they let us order anything from the dinner menu as well. I chose the fettucine alfredo with chicken. Oh so generous of a serving, and had to bring home half. Simply made, so so good. I loved how the linguine had some bite to it. From…read morethe speakeasy vibe of the restaurant to its South Philly culinary inspiration, it was an amazing meal that we'll always remember. We ordered a number of things to share family style - - The Artichoke Francaise appetizer was something we'd never seen before on a menu, so we wanted to try. It was so good and I'm still trying to dupe it at home for my vegetarian hubs. - My husband is a eggplant parm connoisseur, so we also ordered their Eggplant 'Parmigiana' appetizer. He said it was good. - Ricotta Tortelloni was delicious and our favorite savory dish. The aged balsamic cuts through all the richness of the cheeses perfectly. It was so good! - To round off the meal, we ordered dessert and ordered the tiramisu. Glad we did because Giuseppe's & Son's has the BEST tiramisu that either of us has ever tasted. Ava was our waiter that evening. She was the best! When I mentioned my husband was vegetarian, she made sure to clear with him if certain ingredients in the dishes were ok with him. It's a big relief whenever that happens when we dine out. Plus, she was friendly and convivial. The tables at either side of us liked her too. That quality is important and adds to the overall experience for diners. Just had to shout out. Giuseppe's is hands-down a wonderful place and a gem. This past Saturday evening, as it was our son's 53rd birthday, we took him, and his family, out to dinner at this outstanding restaurant. All of us truly loved every aspect of our dining experience. Every dish was made to order, as everything at Dante and Luigi's is fresh and made from scratch. The service is also excellent, and there are additional important benefits to dining there. For example, you have the opportunity to valet your car, and thereby not spend a considerable amount of time seeking a parking place. In addition, at the conclusion of your excellent dining experience, if you decide to pay your bill with CASH, you actually are provided a 10% reduction in the entirety of your total bill, which is usually a considerable savings for most of us. Our son and his family recently moved to Delaware from Florida, and now our son, like his father, fully agrees with my having always often stated, over and again, during the past 25 years, why Dante and Luigi's is my very favorite restaurant anywhere in the nation, [and I have literally been in every state.] Dante and Luigi's is simply outstanding, and I, therefore, urge all who are anywhere near Philadelphia to consider dining there when you next plan to go out for dinner. The White Claw is a pretty classic white pizza, mozzarella and swirls of basil pesto; the crust is amazing! It pairs perfectly with the salad.
