FANTASTIC place. Totally recommend and would absolutely go back. Easy to make a reservation over the phone and our party of 5 was welcomed and brought to our table upstairs. The upstairs area has a chill vibe with some Mario-themed art as well as a TV. It seems that the kitchen is upstairs, so a lot of waiters were flying by out table to the staircase. Our waiter was pretty chill. Apparently an O's fan, he was excited to learn we're from Baltimore. Food was all fantastic. The style of fries isn't my preference, but they were decent. Other than that, I was blown away. Child #1 and Child #2 got some items from the Kids' menu - grilled cheese and cheeseburger. Bread and Butter appetizer. Is it expensive for just being bread and butter? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes. The homemade bread is great, but combine it with honey butter with flaky salt, and it's incredible. Loads of reviews on Yelp talked about the sausage roll. GET IT. It's greasy and filling in all the right ways. Goes great with a beer. My wife got the burger and she found it to be very tasty. I got the Grilled Maitake Mushrooms dish and holy cow; it's perfect. Even if you're not a vegetarian (I'm not), you can appreciate this dish: crispy rice cake (not the dry kind from the store), tender baby bok choy, and of course the well-cooked mushrooms are tied together with black vinegar, garlic-whipped tofu (!), and a peanut sauce. A++ would absolutely get again. The food menu has some staples, but overall it does change nightly, so make sure you check it out before you come. Apparently, on Sundays, they do a different experimental flavor of wings. I was curious, but my stomach has only so much room, so I had to draw the line. There is a respectable drink menu. My wife got the blood orange mezcalita, which she liked, but thought the smoke flavor was more subtle than described. I got the Plum Fizz and would totally get it again. Found a great burger in Philly! Fresh meat, seasoned & grilled well with a perfect dark char. So flavorful! This was house special of the day with Gruyere cheese and arugula, delicious! The bread roll looks large but it's just so super fluffy, made locally (Lost Bread Co), and was a perfect compliment to the burger. Bad Brother I'm told makes their own sourdough bread and Chef is out of San Francisco so he knows bread. Known for their sriracha wings which are a 2-day process to make (brined then soaked before cooking). I didn't try this trip but 7 orders at the bar while I was there speaks volumes. Bartenders are foodies too so drinks are creative, plus they are fun and engaging with the crowd. Weekly specials offer locals savings. Will definitely be back soon! read more

One day I was craving a burger and decided to come to bad brother for the first time. I came on a Monday night not knowing there was a drinking event so it was pretty busy for a Monday. They were doing raffles if you ordered certain drafts but I decided to get a cocktail instead. The plum fizz was so delicious and refreshing. I liked that it wasn't too sweet or too strong (especially because it was a weekday) Anyways, because it was pretty busy I just sat myself at the bar. The bartenders were all so kind and nice and answered all of my questions. Apparently they do change some items on the menu and they do a martini and meatloaf Monday. I stuck with the burger and fries. When I tell you it was the best burger I've had in fairmount, I'm not exaggerating. I was expecting typical bar food but I was wrong. I will be back for sure and I'll be sure to tell all of my friends to go there as well. Absolutely delicious! Went to this place before a show. Super hard to park in this area. Small menu that makes it easy. My wife got the sausage sandwich. She said it was similar to Gaul's wit wizkowski. I tried a bite and it was so good but I didn't feel the comparison was accurate. I got the veal and man was it good. Veal was $32 but Veal is always pricey. Both got side salads that were delicious but not filling at all. Small for $7. I was surprised it was so good because it really didn't have much on it. I got that delicious sausage sandwich!!!!! It was incredible what an absolute gem in Fairmont. They do take out--try calling. It is probably my favorite cheesy sausage sandwich I've had. If you've ever had the Antonio at Gilda in fishtown, this one is a similar profile but Bad brother cuts up the sausage into pieces and is just so flavorful. I think this is my number one now'! We got here 5:30pm on Labor day Monday and the bar and first floor were already full. We were the only ones seated on the 2nd floor but that also filled up while we were there! You might want a reservation to play it safe on a busier night. We got a couple beers during the happy hour. There was a nice selection of draft beers! For food, I ordered the braised pork kimchi risotto. It was fantastic! Every bite was so flavorful and a mixture of textures with the soft but chewy rice, the shredded tender pork, and the crunchy peanuts. Generous portion too, I ate half there and saved the other half. (I actually ate it while writing this review!) I also had a bite of the italian pulled pork sandwich which was also incredibly flavorful and the fries had the best crunch. I can't believe it took me so long to check out this establishment! Great restaurant/bar in Fairmount that's walking distance to Eastern State Penitentiary. I highly recommend making reservations. I came here with a group and they were able to accommodate and seat us upstairs. We ordered the Carangi Rustic Bread and Srircha Buffalo Wings for the table. The bread was addicting with the honey butter and sea salt. So simple yet so delicious. The wings were cooked to perfection and had a unique flavor profile especially paired with the bonito umami filled ranch. For entrees, I tried the house salad and cheeseburger. Both deserve a 10/10! The salad was very tasty and I wouldn't change one thing about it. The burger is something I could eat every week if possible. Loved all the condiment pairings with this. I came here upon seeing phenomenal reviews and it mostly lived up to the hype. On one side, there's a bar area and the other side is the restaurant area with TVs. It felt like a place locals went to to watch sports. I ordered the beer battered flounder after it was recommended to me. Apparently the sausage roll is the star of the show but I was told it was very hearty and I wasn't hungry enough for that. While the servers were very nice, the food took forever to come. I will say the flounder was cooked to perfection. So very crispy. My main complaint for the food was that the sandwich could've had a bit more flavor. Even with the sauce and ketchup, it could've used something more. Also, the potato wedges were thick and I would've preferred regular fries. Beyond those small complaints, it's a pretty good spot to get an American meal. One additional thing to note is that there's an automatic 20% service fee in favor of a traditional tip. read more

Despite Bad Brother being a 'bar,' we were surprised by the vegetarian options and found the salad to be quite sweet and balanced in flavor. The quinoa looked really good on paper, but felt a bit underwhelmed, both in size and flavoring in comparison. My babysitter and wife loved their meaty dishes (burger and steak) respectively, and my kids loved the kiddie version of the burger and grilled cheese without any complaints. It is easy to understand the Fairmount resident compulsion to gatekeep the heck out of Bad Brother. Upon arrival around 6pm on a Friday, my friend and I were hoping to score bar seats to enjoy some post-work dinner and drinks. Both of us live in the neighborhood, had never been, and were way past-due for a visit. No dice on the bar seats since the Bad Brother happy hour is such a crowd favorite, but the awesome staff here squeezed us in at a table for 2 upstairs. Everything was top tier from service to food to easy going ambience. They seem to do it all - great cocktail list, strong wine selection, elevated and delicious "pub" food, and also...arcade games. I love a reliable spot that can be a catch all for any mood, vibe, or occasion, and Bad Brother does it with ease. I tried the kids burger, caesar salad, and fries and thoroughly enjoyed everything, with a special shout out to their house made caesar. Once we wrapped up our wine and meal, our server casually said "are we gonna get some doughnuts?" and we immediately (and correctly) responded "yes." If you take nothing else from this review, do NOT skip the doughnuts. Under no circumstance are you to skip the doughnuts. Oh, you're too full and don't want dessert? You're wrong. Oh, you don't typically like sweet treats? A) seek help and b) order the doughnuts anyways and thank me later. The menu was unexpected considering the venue seems like a typical neighborhood bar. We were seated upstairs which is quieter than the downstairs which has a large bar area and then a smaller seating area. Having read the Yelp reviews, we ordered: bread with honey butter and sea salt - 5/5 outstanding, we wanted to lick the plate that butter concoction was so good! wings with sriracha - 5/5 outstanding again, crisp and delicious with a kick! radicchio salad - 5/5 - not so much radicchio, more arugula, but that is more to my liking, fresh, tasty, I'd have this again and again kids' burger - 4/5 - I ordered mine with everything including bacon, but ended up taking off the bacon because it was not crispy as I prefer it (and I don't really need to eat four strips of bacon on top of my cheeseburger!) the wedge fries were very good and crispy (unlike the bacon) I could have stopped at the bread/butter, wings, and radicchio salad. Maybe next time I'll throw in the roasted cauliflower which also sounded good, and when Lent is over I'll go back for the dessert doughnuts! read more

Good. The menu was small, makes sense given that it seems like a local bar more than anything. The crab bites were good but underwhelming. My hubby had to split his sausage sandwich so I felt like I was getting more of a well-rounded meal. The Good: The milk punch drink was excellent. Not a lot in the glass for the price, but it was a great cocktail. The bread and honey butter were delicious. The presentation was kind of meh, but it was good crusty bread. The Not-so-good: It's dark and loud, the parking is Fairmount parking (although we miraculously found parking a block down). There's a 20% service fee. Make of that what you will. I appreciate places trying to do right by their employees but it hampers the patron in some ways, I think. There were other little fees and taxes that accumulated on our bill that made the meal about $170 all told. I get it, but that struck me as a lot for this bar.
