My friends and I were in town for a conference and stumbled across McCrossen's Tavern. We were seated outside, because we were a large group and there was a Phillies game on and the place was packed! We had great service even though it was busy. The food was fantastic. I got the burger and fries and they were delicious.

As a connoisseur of the ever famous "cheeseburger" I wasn't sure what to expect when choosing McCrossen's. However this was the most incredible surprise. The burger, god damn. I will thinking about this burger forever. I would move to Philadelphia from Arizona JUST to have this again. The service was great, our server was nice, and the overall feel of the building was stoic and calm. Back to the burger. The cheese complimented the medium patty perfectly. And the chilled tomato added crispness. My lemonade washed down each delectable bite and cleansed my pallet for the next one. I wish I could come back for more. Burger I miss you already. The End

I walk past this restaurant all the time and there are always people eating here. Finally tried this place and wow, the food was better than I expected. We got the shrimp taco, Philly cheesesteak, and the tavern wings. Their portions are big - the shrimp taco comes with 3 tacos. For the wings, you can pick different sauces on the side if you can't decide. Their wings are big and nicely battered & fried. I didn't try the cheesesteak but friend said it was good. There's nothing fancy about this place, but it feels like an ideal "hangout spot" when you are looking for a casual night out with your friends. I can see why there are always people here! Overall: Perfect spot when you're picking a place to catch up with a friend! Great food for the price

I will never go back to this place again. I have been going there for years because I love the burgers. I would literally have self care dates. Last night, I was there for the Phillies game and the bartenders only care about drinking WITH you not to serve you. One bartender literally said F*** Y*** to me. I am beyond disrespected and employees shouldn't be wasted on the job.

While visiting Philly stumbled across this place as we were hungry and needed something to eat nearby. The space is one long hallway. Restrooms located towards back and long bar style set up. We were seated as soon as we walked in. Our waiter was not up to par as this led tot his rating. It took about 10-15 minutes before we were able to get water for the table and place our order. We did see her pass the table back and forth. Either the place was super busy or short staff, but it took away from our experience of this establishment. Now the food.....worst wings I've ever had! Ordered 10 piece buffalo wings with fries. The fries were cold (perhaps b/c took her so long to bring out from the kitchen) the sauce for the wings was on the side and not mixed in?! Others at the table had a burger and sandwich which were just subpar. One of my friends never received her side of fries. We tried to bring to the waiter attention, but once again she was on the move never stopped at the table. We had to tell someone else which led to cancelling the order. Overall, Ehh experience food was not worth it at all.

With a welcoming, come-as-you-are atmosphere, friendly staff, solid food, and good music, McCrossen's essentially checks all of the boxes you could ask for in a local pub if you're in the area. For me, it's everything that I look for in my local spot. It's become our reliable go-to for a quick bite or a drink when we want to get out of the house. If the weather is good enough, we'll even take the dog and sit outside. We've tried just about everything on the menu and everything has been good. Their highlights for me are the wings (meaty and delicious) and the falafel sandwich, but at worst, the food was always perfectly fine on the pub food spectrum. Considering how often we've been there in the short time we've lived in Philly, I'd say their batting average for pub food is definitely worthy of an all-star vote. The staff has always been great. Outgoing, warm, and in really good spirits. The service has always been good, as well, which is impressive when considering how busy the bar gets at traditionally-predictable times. Just have a little patience when it's a rush, as they often seem a little understaffed on the floor during those times. The staff will be running around like crazy to compensate, so someone will get to you pretty fast. If there's one complaint, it's that the music in the evenings can get so loud that it's hard to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. Of course, if you stroll in later in the evening like we tend to do for a nightcap, it's sort of par for the course. Overall, McCrossen's Tavern is a fail-safe spot. It's a pub that feels like a local pub. The surrounding neighborhood is diverse, and the bar fully represents that, too, which is nice. Sometimes convenience is enough to bring us back, but thankfully, McCrossen's offers far more than convenience. Which is why we're always returning!

A good tavern, local to the Barnes foundation and Logan Square. Came here for dinner on a Friday night for dinner with my family. It was pretty crowded and is a cozy place, a little dark inside however. Started with the hummus and the chipotle and lime chicken tacos. I ordered the sausage rigatoni. Other meals around the table included mussels in white sauce, seared scallops, falafel, and seared salmon. Both appetizers were good, and I would definitely recommend the tacos, especially if you like a little bit of heat. They do have some kick, but it's nothing over the top. I also enjoyed my sausage rigatoni. There was nothing too special about it, but was a good sized portion and filled me up. I tried the mussels - definitely not the best I've had; they were a little chewy. Overall, the consensus among my family was that the meal was average. We think that part of the problem was that we ordered and were expecting a nicer meal. If we had ordered more traditional tavern food such as a burger, and paired it with drinks, for more of a tavern experience, we probably would've been happier. As such, I would recommend it as a tavern for bar food and drinks, but not for a sit down dinner with higher expectations.

This is a local gem. Shishito pepper is my go-to. I've been here many times and it never disappoints.

We ordered the crispy cheese curds (Wisconsin cheddar, smoked guajillo salsa, and charred scallion ranch). These were a unique take on the classic and I was here for it, definitely try these! I then had the wedge salad (blue cheese, nueske's bacon, cherry tomatoes, radish, pepitas, crispy onions, and thai basil goddess). There were no tomatoes on ours, and so we were given sliced avocado instead. This was an interesting attempt but not my favorite take on this dish, I probably would not get this again. However, the shrimp po boy buns came through to round off this meal! (crispy shrimp, smoky aioli, house made choppy chop, dill on two buttered potato rolls.) These were fantastic and absolutely fire. NOTE they are tiny, almost appetizer sized, which didnt bother me because after the salad and cheese curds I was feeling full already but I would go back and get two orders just for myself they were that good. It's casual but you won't be out of place if you dress up. For food, we started with the crispy calamari that came with a citrus frisee salad and was already sauced up. It was a unique style that I enjoyed and much lighter than other calamari dishes I've had. The petite plateau was perfect for sharing among the 4 of us. Everything was fresh and delicious while being presented so beautifully. The cocktails I had were good. They were different from ones I typically order which I thought was fun to experiment with new flavors to see what I like. One had a pickle garnish and the other was with a non-smoky mezcal. For entrees, most of us got pasta which were all handmade and tasty. My favorite was the one with crab & vodka sauce. The cacio e Pepe & mushroom ones were also good. What stood out the most during the meal was dessert. We got the double chocolate mousse and that was one of the best chocolate mousses I've ever had! It was so gorgeous and topped with a sunflower seed praline & had tangy passionfruit sauce at the bottom which made for a flavor explosion. I was so impressed! The key lime panna cotta was also a work of art topped with candied sourdough that provided a nice crunch to the creamy texture of this dish. It was so yummy! I can't wait to go back again!
