Now the good stuff - The owners who are sisters are super cool and explained to me their vision for their new thrift/ vintage eclectic store, which is a highly curated jack of all trades and master of ALL, at the same time!! This is a much needed store that competes with Artifacts, the second act, and every other thrift store, but has its own unique vibe that is different from all of the others in Iowa City. When you think of small business, this is it. I highly recommend giving them a look because if you're a little bored from the Iowa City thrift scene, there's a new show in town and the matinee is worth the price! Sellers also know they consign. They're still structuring their business model. So a great place to check out on the regular for now. Great time to experiment as a buyer and / or seller.

And the inside is so bright with eclectic merchandise tastefully organized -- showcasing shirts, dresses, rompers, pants, jeans, skirts, shoes, purses and accessories... you name it! I feel you can you shop for any woman here, young or old. For instance, our last shopping trip-- both me and my mom (30 years different) found something we liked! That doesn't happen at most stores. You also can find something for any occasion, casual or formal. The brands they feature are trendy and while I feel like the price is a bit higher than I'd want to pay-- they do have sales! I have always been greeted with a smile by their staff. And can't say I have any poor experiences. Parking could be tricky, especially with school in session. (Eco-Friendly, Hand-Made, Small Biz, Woman Owned... etc) It got me inspired. With Mother's Day a whopping THREE weeks away-- I figured I'd both support my local woman-owned small biz and get a gift or two to make a mom in my life feel seen, loved and appreciated. This review is for an online shopping experience at Revival. Their site is easy to use. I love the tabs...from new to sale items. Gifts for under $25 tab, too. They've got a little bit of something for everyone-- but compared to the store, selection is a bit limited. With the lovely lady in my life being 70+ and growing more fearful by the day of this pandemic-- I opted for the Cold & Flu Blend of essential oils. Practical, yet thoughtful. (Annnnnd... I may have gotten something for myself. HEY. I'm a mom, too! Revival has a WONDERFUL Free People selection.) I made my two purchases... got to the dreaded shipping options... and saw all local deliveries are free! I got my package a mere TEN HOURS after ordering it. (Even with a text informing me it had been left on my step.) Support local. Support small. Support women-owned. Support retail during this crazy time. Oh, and don't forget to spoil your momma. Shop Revival!

Loyal clients. High quality women's apparel and shoes. A GORGEOUS, light and bright store. And friendly, kind service. To be honest, the high price tag most of their items have is a bit out of my budget. And with over half a dozen other women's boutiques in the area, I'd probably choose to shop at any of them. BUT I appreciate what this women-owned shop brings to Iowa City. Upscale goods not offered elsewhere in the area and a pleasant shopping experience. This is one of two locations in the state of Iowa (the other is in DSM.) If you're in need of women's apparel that is unique to the area and don't mind spending a bit more for it-- come shop local at Velvet Coat. It's approachable and fashionable! MAN does it pain me to write this review. I've had a love affair with Von Maur for over a decade…read more And boy, oh boy do I miss my random shopping getaways pre-pandemic. It has been my go-to for formal wear, Iowa Hawkeye gear, shoes, accessories, swimwear and more over the years. But this summer they changed their return policy. I think a lot of it is pretty standard... - Return within 90 days with a receipt: Receive purchase price back to original form of payment - Return after 90 days with receipt or anytime with a gift receipt: Receive purchase price as merchandise credit only. - Return without a receipt: Receive current selling price as merchandise credit only. My issue with this change is with their new FINAL SALE policy. - They cut the tags off your brand new items to ensure you can't return them. Therefore my newly purchased, never worn item that I just so happened to score a great deal on... looks not new. Possible pre-owned. What if I planned to gift someone that item? Don't they deserve to know it hasn't been worn and is right off the rack? (Or in my case, I got a supposedly unworn bikini without any tags... which was unexpected. And kind of weirded me out.) If you need to scribble on the tag, over the barcode-- go for it. But I go to Von Maur for the experience and the unique items sold there. It is tacky and off brand to send new items sans tag. (And when I contacted customer service to express my opinion about said two piece. I was basically shrugged off.) I buy plenty of thrift items for myself and even they include a tag... just sayin. This would be a two star, just because of how I feel about the new changes. But I still stand by Von Maur as a quality store. This change may stop me from getting certain items here now. (#shopsmall, #shoplocal) But it shouldn't deter you from getting full-priced items here!

Many people mentioned how long they've been waiting as well as the fact people were polite in line and again were told we all lost our privileges to a fitting room and if we don't like it we can leave- exactly what was done not only losing a lot of business today but future sales as well. Looking at Google reviews this is a huge trend of this store so I question if it's policy and acceptable since it is a long standing complaint but its terrible business. There are too many options of where to spend our hard earned money to do so at a place that treats customers so terrible- fitting rooms aren't a privilege, it's a must prior to people handing over their hard earned money for your merchandise. I will never return or reccomend abd hoping to save someone the frustration we went through wasting our time in this store today.

Maker to market. Shop gifts intentionally--…read morehandmade, ethical. During these unprecedented times, I find myself thinking more and more about how I spend my family's hard earned dollar. Ten Thousand Villages is a fabulous retail spot to support. While the store has over a hundred locations in North America-- they do fair trade right. Every handmade purchase directly impacts the life and community of its maker in a developing country. I hopped on their site one day during quarantine to shop with my mom in mind. The site is so, SO easy to navigate. There's a Gift Finder tab that I found extremely helpful. I opted for the Recycled Sari Flowers. No two flowers are entirely alike due to them recycling fabric. They were made in Bangladesh. (My mom does NOT have a green thumb. I feel like fabric flowers will be welcomed.) On the site, you get to see a blurb about the maker of each item. It makes you feel good to see who you're supporting with your purchase. Shop Ten Thousand Villages for any gift giving you may have. Whether it is during social distancing on their site, or at their store in the ped-mall. It is a literal treasure trove.
