Today was my first visit to the Target downtown Iowa City and I was amazed. The store looks small from the outside but the inside has all the essentials! Groceries, cosmetics, clothes, etc etc. I was absolutely amazed and my youngest daughter and myself enjoyed checking out the store.

One of the better Targets in the area. Always has what I need (and what I don't need ). The staff are always friendly and helpful.

There are an adorable, young married couple. I wanted to buy everything but I'm trying to downsize so I was there to sell. They took the time to look through all my things even though they weren't buying much at the moment, but they were able to find some pieces and offered me a fair price. I urge anyone who loves stores like Artifacts and the like to check this place out.

Housed in a former staffing services space, the building is open and airy. I stopped in the other weekend and had a great (socially-distant) conversation with the owner. They've only been open a few weeks but already have a great assortment. The shop is curated with mid-century modern and modern furniture, art and records, plus clothes like vintage Hawkeye apparel, hats and jerseys. Fun fact: The owners know the team behind FindFurnish in Minneapolis, a similar store that has made trips down to Iowa City to buy some of their pieces before selling them at much higher, big-city prices. Definitely recommend this new, inspiring shop! Prices are great and the selection is varied.

A lot of the furniture is in pretty good shape and can be fixed up with some new upholstering, sanding, or painting. They also have a significant selection of appliances, lighting, and other odds and ends (like sinks and countertops) that could be a good fit if you're looking for something for a small space. I was thrilled when I looked at the prices on some of the desk/dresser/drawer items in particular. I came looking for a filing cabinet, and found one for just $5! Doesn't get much better than that.

And ALSO because you can schedule pickup for items you plan to donate. MAN does that make donating an old couch easy! We contacted on them on Monday and they came by to grab our sofa that Friday morning. They gave us an hour window a few days prior-- they were on time! Professional and prompt, a two man team came up in a truck, got it and were gone. In the blink of an eye! They take appliances, cabinetry, doors, hardware, flooring, furniture, art, mirrors, lighting, vents, exercise equipment, garden tools, bricks, pavers, fencing, lawn equipment, roofing, windows, tile, power tools, lumbar and more. One mans junk truly is another mans lucky day. Donate to Habitat for Humanity Restore-- and give them a shout-- they'll make the entire process painless by moving it for you. Cheers to that.

I think the front bagged stuff was a good selection but I can't pay those prices when discogs and eBay exist. I have an ultrasonic and returns are guaranteed online. I'll gamble online before paying $30 for a record I've seen elsewhere for $5-10. Plus most good albums have been reissued at about $20. Some people may want an OG copy, I don't get paying more than the reissue price for a used OG record that looks eh.... Now the stuff in back had some good stuff too, but it should have been $5 a record and I'd have bought a bunch, they're just not worth $10 for common stuff. I don't need to fill out my collection that much, and nothing was rare or uncommon really. I managed to find a couple things I was ok with buying, was eventually helped at the counter, and was then told they only take cash. Who carries cash? I'm not 60..... cards are everything these days. So I wasted a half hour to an hour browsing through overpriced records just to be turned away. I could have found an ATM, but I'm out of town. So we tack an ATM fee on to the overpriced records too? Nah, didn't feel like it, so drove back to my hotel in Cedar Rapids... If you need decent copies of mostly basic albums (classics) with the occasional gem or underpriced record, come here with a lot of time, and cash only. Moral of this story? A question - You talked my ear off when I arrived but mentioned nothing of cash only? Waste of both our time.

Logically, I wanted to confer with like minds. I stopped in one downtown district shop crawl and was instantly greeted by the shop owner, Jan. What a wonderful lady! I loved the shop. A couple Iowa-centric items, lots of beautiful decor, paintings, furniture-- all carefully curated. I begrudgingly left that night empty handed. (A lot of the items on my radar were not surprisingly pricey. I unfortunately tend to have expensive taste. And this shop definitely has some higher end items.) Then, last week, I realized they sell items ONLINE with free contactless local delivery. *Happy Dance* I'm not sure if you've perused the Northside? But currently an entire street is closed to outside dining which is amazing, but does the parking situation no favors. ANYWAYS. The online shop was filled with candles, tea towels, furniture, pillows, vases, rugs, artwork... the whole gambit. I found an amazing photo of the pedestrian mall in the rain. I couldn't resist. My treasure was well priced. Jan emailed me personally that night to set up next day delivery. I found my package neatly put between my doors, packed with care. The cherry on top was a handwritten note from the shop owner. The picture is perfection. I haven't used Luxe for interior design purposes. (And due to my frequent HGTV watching and inherent designing expertise, let's face it. I probably won't anytime soon. ;)) But Jan is fabulous, the shop has tons of flair. A great addition to downtown! Stop by virtually or IRL.

In August, we received another email with an invoice for $2,100 as she had received items in her warehouse which we paid. The owner failed to keep us posted on timelines and deliveries which we were supposed to have in September (after paying for items in August). Our delivery was scheduled for October 22 when I got a call that the truck had been in an accident and all of our pieces were damaged and she would have to reorder. She did not offer a refund. Months later, she delivers $6,000 worth of the items. That was the end of it. I finally called and demanded a refund which they processed (has not reached my card yet). I come to find out that 1) No one at Luxe Interiors ever heard anything about an accident and 2) the order for one sofa was never placed and the other order was placed then cancelled back in December. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE LYING CRIMINALS!
