BUT I appreciate what this women-owned shop brings to Iowa City. Upscale goods not offered elsewhere in the area and a pleasant shopping experience. This is one of two locations in the state of Iowa (the other is in DSM.) If you're in need of women's apparel that is unique to the area and don't mind spending a bit more for it-- come shop local at Velvet Coat. It's approachable and fashionable! I think a lot of it is pretty standard... - Return within 90 days with a receipt: Receive purchase price back to original form of payment - Return after 90 days with receipt or anytime with a gift receipt: Receive purchase price as merchandise credit only. - Return without a receipt: Receive current selling price as merchandise credit only. My issue with this change is with their new FINAL SALE policy. - They cut the tags off your brand new items to ensure you can't return them. Therefore my newly purchased, never worn item that I just so happened to score a great deal on... looks not new. Possible pre-owned. What if I planned to gift someone that item? Don't they deserve to know it hasn't been worn and is right off the rack? (Or in my case, I got a supposedly unworn bikini without any tags... which was unexpected. And kind of weirded me out.) If you need to scribble on the tag, over the barcode-- go for it. But I go to Von Maur for the experience and the unique items sold there. It is tacky and off brand to send new items sans tag. (And when I contacted customer service to express my opinion about said two piece. I was basically shrugged off.) I buy plenty of thrift items for myself and even they include a tag... just sayin. Shopping at Windsor today, 5 pm on a Saturday and experienced the worst customer service ever…read more There was a very long wait for the fitting rooms, we waited for twenty minutes and were halfway to fitting rooms when their employee started scolding the entire store like we were misbehaving children- she yelled for everyone to hear, stating we all lost privileges to the fitting rooms because people aren't picking up after themselves so fitting rooms were closed. Many people mentioned how long they've been waiting as well as the fact people were polite in line and again were told we all lost our privileges to a fitting room and if we don't like it we can leave- exactly what was done not only losing a lot of business today but future sales as well. Looking at Google reviews this is a huge trend of this store so I question if it's policy and acceptable since it is a long standing complaint but its terrible business. There are too many options of where to spend our hard earned money to do so at a place that treats customers so terrible- fitting rooms aren't a privilege, it's a must prior to people handing over their hard earned money for your merchandise. I will never return or reccomend abd hoping to save someone the frustration we went through wasting our time in this store today.

Ten Thousand Villages is a fabulous retail spot to support. While the store has over a hundred locations in North America-- they do fair trade right. Every handmade purchase directly impacts the life and community of its maker in a developing country. I hopped on their site one day during quarantine to shop with my mom in mind. The site is so, SO easy to navigate. There's a Gift Finder tab that I found extremely helpful. I opted for the Recycled Sari Flowers. No two flowers are entirely alike due to them recycling fabric. They were made in Bangladesh. (My mom does NOT have a green thumb. I feel like fabric flowers will be welcomed.) On the site, you get to see a blurb about the maker of each item. It makes you feel good to see who you're supporting with your purchase. Shop Ten Thousand Villages for any gift giving you may have. Whether it is during social distancing on their site, or at their store in the ped-mall. It is a literal treasure trove.
