We've wanted to visit this restaurant for months and finally stopped today. Wow, there is something special about this place. We were greeted warmly by friendly smiling staff members who were attentive but we never felt rushed as we scanned the menu. Many wonderful choices but we settled on falafel appetizer and chicken gyro special. Fresh ingredients and cooked to order.. yum! We couldn't eat it all but had to try the baklava anyway. Delicious. Our leftovers will be dinner tonight. The place was clean and comfortable with spacious booths and lots of natural light. It has that retro community diner vibe. Great reviews on Yelp had me take the detour off of I-85 to give this 5 star joint a try for an early lunch. I've been really enjoying Mediterranean food and have found some really good places during my weekly travel for work. Geez, I think I'm being generous with the three stars here and was really considering only two. I can't quite figure out the high ratings. The server was very nice and did a good job. But Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils with dried out, bland chicken shawarma and flavorless rice just suprised the heck out of me from a place with such ratings. I'm not sure what kind of olive oil is being used, if at all, the dressing for the greek salad sure didn't taste like an olive oil base. I am not sure this place is worthy of all those stars given years ago. First time visiting. Found the place empty of customers. The meat (chicken) was not fresh, but frozen, thawed in microwave, then grilled. This made the meat dry and a little rubbery. Not sure why as they have a meat spit there on the counter. It is just not being used. Maybe they are not busy enough? The salad was fresh and good which helped. I think the white sauce provided was supposed to be tzatziki but it tasted off so I did not use it. Might have just been me but did not want to chance it. The place is small and a little dingy. The grill area did not look like it had been cleaned in a while. Some grease splatter and aluminum foil used on the back. The kind of thing you would do to avoid cleaning so that the foil could be replaced instead. Pretty disappointed as I was hoping to get good fresh Mediterranean food. Thanks to Yelp for again helping me find a local off the beaten path spot. This place is in what looks to be an old Waffle House. The owner was literally the only guy working there and he did EVERYTHING. They have a selection of American and Mediterranean foods! I ordered the Greek salad with chicken added on top and hummus for a starter with a coworker. Both were delicious and the salad was MASSIVE! If you're in Anderson looking for a quick meal at a proper diner look nowhere else, sure they may not have burgers and hashbrowns but when I tell you they have the best damn Mediterranean food you'll eat at a fantastic price, I mean it. I've ate here for two years now since my move to Anderson, I've never had a bad experience, I've never had a bad meal, and I've sadly never seen this placed packed out like it deserves. The service is great to be ran by one-two people, the restaurant feels like what you'd want out of an old fashioned diner, sure they may not have a jukebox, but there's plenty of seating, and just a great hole in the wall feel. The tabbouleh salad is to die for. (Had to look up how to spell it ) The humus is delish and the falafel is crispy and savory. There are other dishes on the menu I haven't tried yet. Looking forward to it. Did I mention the parsley is fresh? The tomatoes so sweet? The dressing so good. All are fresh, fresh. And the restaurant is soooo clean. Such a joy to enter, once I realized where it is. My Mediterranean cravings have a place to be satisfied. I like the other place in Anderson. The beef was not tender, the greek salad had canned pickles on it, the garlic sauce was bland - it needed a lot more fresh garlic, the hummus was very bland, and they do not season the fries (big problem). The service was good. The couple running the place are very sweet and hardworking people. The restaurant decor does not look good but the restaurant was clean. If they would season their food, make the dishes more authentic, and invest a couple of thousand bucks into renovations, this could be a great place. read more

What was once a Waffle House at some point, years ago, is now home to a hidden gem. Pita Way is authentic Mediterranean food on a budget, but it is short on cost and long on taste. Isn't that what we truly want? In a time when Mediterranean cuisine is seemingly all the rage in some communities, a diner can hardly swing a dead cat without hitting a restaurant that serves something resembling a gyro and considers itself kitschy and worthy of praise from anyone who darkens their door instead of wandering into the fast food joint down the street. But simply offering a gyro is a far cry from actually serving authentic Mediterranean food. Pita Way, however, is legitimate, budget Mediterranean fare, and plenty of bang for your buck Wherever I go, if I have the opportunity to order chicken shawarma, as a pita, a plate, a wrap, a sandwich, or whatever incarnation the kitchen can think up, I am going to do so. As a foodie/food critic/reviewer/snob, your favorite items are always judges by your highest standards. I am struck by the contrast that Pita Way brings to its diners. Such an unassuming appearance on the outside, and such quality on the inside. The chicken shawarma pita is remarkably good, rich in flavor, freshly cooked, seasoned well but not overly so, which tends to be the downfall of so many dishes, Mediterranean or otherwise. The garlic sauce is excellent, and it made me smile to see it doled out from a mayonnaise jar, evidence of the fact that this place, in every way, is an example of substance over flash, a pleasant change from the litany of places whose focus skews in the opposite manner. The pita is stacked with chicken, lettuce, tomato, and garlic sauce, resulting in exactly what I sought: a simple, filling dish at a bargain price. That very fact is why I made sure to make a return trip on my way out of town, not knowing when I would be back through Anderson again. The service was friendly, fast, and attentive and the cherry on top of the dining experience. On my first visit, the owner himself was handling the cooking as well as the service. There's just something about someone who looks and sounds the part when you're at a place that serves cuisine from a specific region, with the mustache, the accent, and the pleasant disposition. For whatever reason, it makes the visit just a little more memorable. There was another man there the second time around, and the attention paid to our table's every need was exceptional. Whether or not my next trip south will take me through Anderson remains to be seen, but if I find myself within a half an hour of Pita Way, ahead of schedule and on an empty stomach, I'm sure the GPS will be temporarily reprogrammed. read more
