the outside of a restaurant

While out n about today, I ventured into a new to me part of Casa Grande. The area reminded me of smallish towns in CA Central Valley. While on the main drag, I saw a cool old drive-in diner place. I made it a point to stop for lunch after work stuff was done. Price was cheap, seafood was tasty, nicely breaded & fried but possibly frozen stuff. I see they batter the seafood there. My combo order had 2 fish pattie squares (moby jack - remember that?) and 7 shrimp (actually 3.5 shrimp cut in 1/2 lengthwise - weird but OK), fries were fine. Food was cooked fresh, tasty for what it was and what I paid (see receipt), service was nice and prompt outside, seating under the awning was clean. Being from CA and living in SF & SD, I've had some of the best fresh catch fried seafood. This was not that by far. But it is what it is in the desert and well it was just fine. Will I go back? Yes, but I would not go out of my way for it. Oh it's definitely better than LJS chain junkfood!

Fish, a frozen fish stick patty. Fries, soft and mooshy potatoes. I didn't have high hopes bit. I wanted to like it but the food is not good but very affordable so you get what you get.

My fish, just square patty

This is not Fish N' Chips this is frozen fish patties. Chips were not good had been sitting too long. They were understaffed but very friendly

Order here!

Definitely not a trendy new restaurant or an eclectic spot to get a yelp review in at but it did the trick this fine day. Generally a pretty health conscious eater, this was a bit out of my element. I was starving.......for real, starving. About anything would do the trick and and like a port in the storm, Pirates saved the day. A good serving of fried food can't be that bad right? I enjoyed the fish and chips with some shrimp as well. Breaded and fried was really the only items on the menu. It was par for the course in every way other than the fish patties varied in size immensely. Out of my 4 patties one of the small patties was less than half the size of the largest. Note that if eating there you will see a cast of characters lol. They also had a drive they option too. Enjoy the fish and chips!

One thing that caught my eye when a friend was driving me around Casa Grande last year was this fish & chips restaurant which had the design of a drive-in restaurant in the 1950s. The condition of the structure makes me believe that it probably WAS a drive-in restaurant in the 1950s, and ownership must have changed hands several times since. It seems, though, that the present management or owner isn't too concerned about the maintenance of the external structure of the building itself. It was nighttime, though, and the place looked OK. And since I am fascinated by mid-20th century Americana (see my review of MacAlpine's restaurant), I told my friend to pull in so we can order a snack. The menu showed items typical of most fish & chips places in this region, and the items were quite inexpensive. The burgers we ordered were about par for a fast-food joint, and the fries were quite good. As we dined, I looked around and imagined what the place must've been like half a century ago: cars with tailfins parked alongside the carport-like dining area, perhaps carhops bringing trays of ordered food to the people in the cars. I returned with my friend last week, in mid-afternoon this time. The poor state of maintenance of the building became even more noticable in bright daylight. I ordered Krab and chips (K, not C, because it's surimi, not real crab) while my friend ordered burgers and fries. I do like surimi, so my order was OK; and as before, the fries were good. My friend's burger, though, was obviously a frozen burger patty that had not thawed sufficiently before or during cooking, so it was cooked outside but raw within. A visit to the place could really be a cool nostalgic trip back to the glory days of the drive-in restaurants, if only they would give the building some needed repairs and touch-ups, and would pay just a bit more attention to the cooking.

That's the menú and more go see it and try it yourself

They had ZERO idea is their fish was battered or breaded. (It's Breaded) the fish was over cooked and the fries undercooked.

I've never tried their fish & chips, but I truly don't understand why anyone would be expecting fresh seafood considering this is in Casa Grande, Arizona.

I've struggled writing this review for weeks as I'm wondering, am I just getting lucky? Because…read morethis place has a lot of bad reviews. And I have had a few negative experiences, mostly with speed of service and one time(the last time to be fair) getting a skimpy taco because I dared take it back after it was made wrong. But my food has been good almost every time. The quesabirria taco was really good, as was the Al Pastor. I've also enjoyed the Carne Asada. Their chunky salsa is TREMENDOUS. I get a large one to take home, EVERY TIME. Crazy to think a place like this in Casa Grande makes salsa as good as I do at home. I'd avoid the hard shell tacos and rolled tacos though, stick to the heavier items. The fish tacos are terrible, easily the worst thing I've had here. They definitely have an operational problem, understaffing, poor training, ect. There are some young men who aren't working with any sort of urgency whatsoever (they work during the day). But overall, I like this place. You have to know when to go inside vs the drive thru, where they are pretty bad. But the food is consistently good, and better than what I find typically where I actually live. They have solid specials and are fairly priced. Portions are normally good, except for the one time . Will this place blow your mind? Probably not, but it's the best 24 hour place I've had in Arizona, and that's saying a lot.

Cravings tacos at 3AM on a drunken night? This place is open 24 hours and there's a drive-thru LOL…read moreEver since moving to AZ, I have found it super cool that you can order tacos through a drive-thru as that isn't much of a thing in CA. Even banks and pharmacies have drive-thrus here! Hahaha. I have to be honest, the tacos, quesadilla and rolled tacos here are mediocre. If I'm really craving tacos and this is the only place open, I'd go here to just fill my stomach up but I've had better tacos elsewhere. I tried their quesabirria and it was great and it's LOADED with meat and cheese but unfortunately, it's really bland compared to other places I've tried. I may need to try their burritos as it seems to hit the spot for most people so I can't completely knock on this place.. it's just convenient and it's open 24 hours but don't expect really good food.

As a result, I always have opportunities to leave 5 star reviews. Our order was $30 for two people, the same as we'd pay for our favorite order from Casa Mora in Arizona City or Karavela's (I get quesabirria tacos from both). The difference is that CFA also included drinks for the price. There was an issue with my CFA order. I intentionally ordered the fried chicken jalapeño bacon ranch sandwich because I got healthy at home. I was given the grilled version. I took a bite to see if my taste buds approved the oversight. They vetoed the decision. I reported the incorrect order via the app and was immediately given a replacement reward. I also retuned the sandwich at the counter and was taken care of expeditiously. Kudos to the staff and the shift leader, Nicholas, if I remember correctly. There are many reasons people protest and boycott CFA. The service, food taste and quality are not included. I don't know if all areas have the same events, but I was excited about what the CG CFA has coming up. I'll be back next Saturday for their free breakfast sandwich. I hope you go sooner so that I don't have to wait (April 6-11). They also have a Mother Son event I would go to if my 21 yo lived closer. Oh yeah, the food is good too. Their bacon is AMAZING!!!!
