Food: (1st visit) South of the border wrap with brown derby chopper salad 5/5. I ate it all!! The salad was fresh and a mix of the perfect amount of ingredients. The wrap was thiccc and chicken was juicy and hot (temp)! (2nd visit) I got the special of the day: which was a burger with the spinach salad 5/5. Again the salad was amazing could've made it better myself. I'm not sure what was better the burger itself or bun...burger was hefty and juicy with a slight taste of the summer nostalgic grill char and the bun was soft and forgiving but firm in the right places to hold everything together. Beverage: 5/5 I got the Sweet Iced Tea which was good but then did a 70/30 mix with lemonade and that was banging! The lemonade was a fountain drink, tea made in house. Dessert: I might be addicted to those brownies man! That's a don't eva skip! Total Price with Tip: Expect to spend at least 20 dollars for lunch, beverage, and dessert. This was a random lunch stop for me, I've never thought to go here but I'm so happy I found it. I had a quick Togo order. They have a lot of sandwich and salad options. I ordered the half sandwich and soup and with a drink it came to a little over 14 dollars. Both were so tasty so it was great that it was good and affordable. You order at the counter and they call your name when you order is done. It was efficient and although the line was long it went by quickly. The restaurant is open with lots of seating. First time eating here yesterday. Four of us ordered sandwiches and one soda. The total came to $63 -- and then we were prompted for a 20-25% tip. This is a walk‑in, counter‑service place where you pick up your own food and bus your own table. Asking for that level of tip with no service is excessive. I'm happy to tip for actual service, but paying extra for someone to assemble four sandwiches is the owner's responsibility, not the customer's. I ordered the Rascal's Reuben. Unfortunately, the brisket was carved incorrectly -- long, stringy pieces because it was cut with the grain instead of across it. Note to the owner: watch Katz's Deli videos from NYC to see how proper carving is done. The sandwich looked like something from vending machine. The meat was piled in the center so that when it was cut in half it appeared generous, but it was 6 oz at best. They also forgot the Swiss cheese. I tipped, and honestly I regret it. For the same price, Trali Irish Pub's Reuben is WAY BETTER and I'm happy to tip 20-25% for their table service. Now here's the Caveat. The original order was half a sandwich plus a side called a 2 & 2. Well when she saw the mistake she replaced it with a WHOLE sandwich. The service is super great with recommendations that have always hit the spot, the decor is cute, and the food selection is practically unrivaled. I was in the mood for something unique for lunch and read some great things about Piper's in the Park. The restaurant is one of those lunch only spots in RTP. It has a fairly large seating area, which is packed during peak lunch hours. Tables are wooden with a lot of dog decor on the walls. Cleanliness is great and staff was very amicable. My lunch was early at 11am or so as I had meetings to attend afterwards. I was lured into the Cheesy Chicken Chili Pepper Queso which was under the Grilled Sandwiches section. Turns out it's a quesadilla that tastes very much like the Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla from Taco Bell. I wasn't very impressed after paying $10 for the quesadilla, chips and a drink. Seeing the other reviews, I will return and try something else on the menu. The food being the most important part of any restaurant I had to taper down the rating until I really experience something truly appetizing. If a restaurant is going to offer a chopped salad on their menu, I wish they would take the time to train their staff on how to prepare the salad appropriately - with tiny bite sized pieces and premixed, and not plated and and served as any other salad on the menu. I hate to do this. but..I just thought it was OK. I admit, they have eye-catching items on the menu. The creative names help too. I got their special: Crunchy Flounder on Toasted Bun (Basil Mayo, Tomato, Lettuce.) The flounder was breaded and "fried" on the grill with olive oil. (They don't own a fryer, which is great!). The breading looked like it was infused with herbs, but sadly it didn't taste like it. None of the herbs/spices came out. The basil mayo was simply just dried basil mixed with mayo. Did I taste the basil? no. The LT was fresh, which was good. I enjoyed the bun, it was light and soft. From a foodie's perspective, it seems to me that they are using cheap dried herbs. That's why none of the flavours and scents came out of the sandwich. Especially with breading, the "frying" process takes away a lot of the aromas of herbs. Therefore, it would be especially important to use high quality herbs with strong aromas. I also got some of their honey walnut chicken salad on the side. In all honestly, I thought it was a little too sweet for me, especially since it's purposed for a sandwich salad. I would expect the sandwich/wrap would need a lot of other salty concoctions to counter-balance the sweetness, for it to be satisfied as a meal. Maybe sun-dried tomatoes. Too bad they ran out of their peach cobbler. I had a feeling that might have been the star of the show, if I had gotten that. O well. The sandwich was better because I made my own little side "secret" sauce. Balsamic Vinegar with Texas Pete (which they have available at the condiment counter). If you care: Fried fish is generally enjoyed with a dash of hot sauce. Texas Pete is a vinegar based hot sauce, therefore it would go spectacular with the aromatic nature of the balsamic vinegar. Since the sandwich lacked that sense of spice, it provided some flavours. Also the acidity of the vinegar goes well with fish. That's why we use lemon, to counter-act the "fishiness". I will go again for the cobbler. I definitely will. =) read more

Pipers is one of the few good places I've found for lunch in RTP. The menu overall is a bit hit or miss, but there's several items that are consistently good. Favorites are the Cowboy Brisket, and the Steak Fajita tacos! Pipers is a great place for a tasty lunch. It's in the back corner of the same shopping center as the Sheetz, off of Alexander Drive. The ingredients are fresh, the food is tasty, and the service is always friendly. They have a different lunch special every day, and most of them are scrumptious. My favorites are the Southwest Chicken Burrito, the Fajita Soft Tacos and the Crunchy Fish Sandwich. All three are deeeelish, and I almost never turn them down if they're the special of that day. The Grilled Fish tacos are so so, in my opinion, as are the Pork Sliders. Off the menu, if you're looking for something greasy and savory, the Cowboy Briskett is excellent. Buttery, cheesy and piled high with meat. Other favorites from the menu are the Mallard's Cardinal, Rocket's BLT, made with thick slices of black label bacon, and Papa Sweeney's Pimento Cheese. All the items come with sides, and all the sides I've had are great. There's a variety of soups available as well, and they change daily. The Tomato Basil, Tomato and Red Pepper and Seafood Chowder are always delicious. Wrap it up with one of their cookies if you want something sweet. They are thick, fresh, soft and SO good. My first time here, I tried to Walnut Honey Chicken Salad and wasn't terribly impressed. It was decent, and the ingredients were obviously fresh, but it wasn't the greatest. Show up at 11:45 or 1:30 to avoid the crowd. The line isn't super slow, but the lunch rush often fills the place up, and Piper's isn't fast food. After 1:30 the room is almost empty, so it's a great time for a relaxing lunch if you're looking for something quiet. read more

Pretty delicious! I came here with my co-workers today for a team lunch. We got here close to 12 & the place was hopping! For our group of six, there were about three people in front of us in line, but a lot of folks already seated. Salads, sandwiches & wraps with a twist are their offerings, with plenty of side choices. Prices are reasonable, because the amount of food you get is plentiful. I chose the BLT & potato salad. We waited about 10 minutes for our food. It's very loud in there, so probably not the best spot for a lunch meeting or intimate conversation. They do have a good bit of seating available. My sandwich was delicious. I loved the maple peppered bacon. It gave a nice crunch to the sandwich. The romaine lettuce & tomato were fresh & the bread toasted/grilled nicely. The potato salad was a mayo & mustard base with small chunks of potato (with the skin still on). It had a nice texture & kick to it. An eclectically named menu that hides some really good food. I tend to pick a menu Item I like at each restaurant, this one has two that depending on the weather I will choose. The first is their Chili. It's excellent stuff. Not terribly spicy but just a good quality flavor and with an option of being served in a nice bread bowl. The second is their brisket sandwich. That is a monster and my favorite thing they serve. I will normally get this every time unless it's finally cold around here and I want something different and get the chili. Tender, held together by a hunk of melted havarti cheese on a butter roll it is just fantastic. I have been to Piper's a handfull of times in the past two months and have not been disappointed yet. Piper's is your standard strip-mall, lunch joint in RTP - order from the counter on one side, get a drink, take a seat and wait for your number/name to be called for pickup. The menu and the quality of the food on the other hand is above standard. My fav sandwich is the Papa Sweeney's Pimento Cheese - a grilled, Southern style pimento cheese with portobello mushrooms and roasted peppers. If you have a craving for pimento cheese this is the ticket. There is always a special, if it happens to be any type of quesadilla you might give that a try - they are very good. No matter what you try you will not be disappointed, Piper's serves a quality lunch. Hope you enjoy Piper's as much as I do. Note: Like all RTP lunch joints they get crazy crowded by noon. read more

One of the better sandwiches I've had in a while, thanks to Serena S's suggestion. Lots of things on the menu looked good, but I opted for the honey walnut chicken sandwich. It was paired with the most perfect bread, just enough crusty texture to hold it together and offset the innards. I ordered a side of kettle chips (from a bag, but the nice brand). And it was the perfect amount of food for lunch. Had a bite of my companion's pasta salad and admitted it was pretty darn good, considering I don't even like pasta salad!
