You walk in a tiny hallway and bam traditional old school diner, we were seated right away! Everyone is so nice. Get the big giant menu but I already went to the "lighter side" section for healthy choice and ordered the poached eggs on English with a side of grits. We also ordered the basic omelette with the biscuit option. Served quick but enjoyed seeing some really delicious looking plates come out to other tables. My English mussin was literally perfect so thin too, poached eggs perfect, grits, OMG super yummy, omelette was perfect. Ok! Let's move on to the fresh made buttermilk biscuits and gravy. It was your average diner food. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. I had the 2 (scrambled) eggs with crispy bacon( which was good) and hash browns. Something about the hashbrowns that threw me off. ??? Hubby had the chicken fried steak and very easy eggs. Chicken fry steak definitely came out of a box that got warmed up in the microwave. Don't let the outside fool ya, as this is a diamond in the rough! The sign outside has damage and the surrounding buildings are rundown. However, once you step inside, you step inside a busy, hustling thing of beauty!! We went on a Saturday morning around 9:30/10am and it was busy, but we only had to wait 10-15 mins for a table of 7. One thing to mention is that this is pure original breakfast. There are no blueberries or chocolate chips for example to add to your waffles/pancakes. However, the pancakes were VERY good without the extras. Plus, the pricing is no frills as well. My pancakes/2eggs/sausage plate was like 10.50. The food was all REALLY good. We were in Arlington looking for that perfect go to neighborhood diner. I found the Pioneer Restaurant in my YELP quest and it looked perfect. It did not disappoint. We went on a Sunday morning with people waiting outside, the 20 -30 minute wait was more like 15 minutes. The service was quick and the food came out hot and cooked exactly as ordered. Wife and I stopped here for brunch and it was very busy inside, but we were seated right away. Our waitress came right over to offer assistance and to take our drink orders. Of brunch I ordered the French toast with eggs and bacon and it was a really reasonable price. The meal arrived less then five minutes later. The French toasted tasted really good and the baked on was very crispy, but the eggs were very runny so I didn't eat them. It was definitely worth the visit. read more

While visiting Six Flags, we found this old school restaurant nearby. It's the kind of place where you see pies in the display case as you walk in and you can buy a box of Junior Mints when you pay your check. We had omelettes and eggs with biscuits and gravy on the side. The omelettes were three eggs and loaded with ingredients. They were slightly overdone but the flavor was great. Biscuits were scratch-made and dense with a mild sausage gravy. If you want a stick-to-your-ribs type of meal, this is the place to go. Friendly service as well. Recommended. read more

So. We decided to visit again just based off all of the other options around. Creatures of habit. The service was great. She was very attentive 100% of the time. The food was not as fresh this go round. My husbands chicken sandwich was dry. Asked for mushrooms and got maybe 4 slices. The feeling of the restaurant was HOT. The AC was not working. I saw a new fee added to our check for those who don't use cash. Bummer. If you are going to charge a fee to use a debit card, bring free fee ATM inside for your patrons to use. We came here for a late lunch around 1:30... was surprised this place is only open until 2:30pm. We were seated right away but menus took awhile to arrive... Our waitress came over asking for our drink order before we even got our menu. Our 3 kiddos each ordered a soft drink (which we assumed would be included with their kids meal... we were wrong). My husband and I each got a club sandwich with fries ($9.25) and our kids got pancakes and bacon ($5.25) and chicken tenders and fries ($5.25). The shocking part is that the 4 sodas ordered came to a whopping $10 ($2.50 EACH!) In addition, if you're paying with a card, you will be paying the $1.67 transaction fee as well. We adore local diners and on our few and far days off together we always try to find one for breakfast. Pioneer has now knocked the rest off to take our number one spot! Big dining area, a menu full of different breakfast choices and really really good prices. Hubs got a chicken fried steak breakfast, added a side order of sausage, piled it altogether and said it was incredible. For the first time in as long as I can remember he couldn't finish his whole meal and had to take his biscuits home to enjoy! I had migas and they were so good. We came today to bring some of our friends that were in town here. We were an 8+ table. Went to ask for PLASTIC spoons for 2 1 year olds and they told me it would be 25 cents each. When I said I was eating here and just needed them for the children, the manager just gave me the dumbest look and turned away. this place is more like a 3.5 out of 5 stars. they charge extra if you use a credit card, so that's why i'm not giving it the full 4 stars, but they do have delicious food that's cheap. i don't know what it is about me, but i love diner food. I was heading to Arlington and made a stop here. I got lucky for parking, as it was very crowded. When i walked in, most of the tables were full. We ended up getting Country Fried Steak and an omelette and both entrees were filling and tasty. we also got grits and hashbrowns and toast and it was a nice addition to breakfast. (you get to pick between grits or hashbrowns and toast or biscuits) Out of the two, i really enjoyed the Country Fried Steak, which also comes with a bowl of gravy, so you can control how much you want on it. Even though it was busy, service was quick and prompt. There were times we needed to wait for our waitress to come around for water/coffee refill, but completely understandable on how busy it was. You pay up at the front, so better to leave cash tips on the table for the waitress/waiter.... or hand it to him/her. You could tell this was a good ole home fashioned place from all the cars in the parking lot on a Sunday morning. Tried because of all the great Yelp reviews. This place is fantastic. We were seated right away. Waitress was at our table immediately for our drink order. Then we ordered and our food was out very quickly. Eggs, over medium, were perfect, grits were good, French toast was very good, thick pieces. Husband liked the biscuits, but they're very filling!!! We met some friends visiting from California for breakfast. This was our first time to eat here. I ordered a #1. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns were crispy. The sausage was very tasty and the coffee was good and plentiful. The four states was because of the biscuits. I am a biscuit and gravy man. The biscuits I was served this were not traditional. They were more like rolls and tasted like it. The restrooms were clean but the floors were wet in both of them. Visited Pioneer Restaurant at the recommendation of a friend. PR has been here for decades and with good reason. Food, service, price and setting are top notch. My friend had the two egg breakfast with bacon, hash browns, biscuits and gravy. I had the #5 Sampler with two eggs, hash browns, one sausage patty, two biscuits and gravy, and a generous slice of ham. We both had coffee. Everything was cooked to perfection and the biscuits appear to be made in house. The gravy was thick and delicious. While I enjoyed everything and would probably order each part on it's own, next time I'll get a smaller combo. The #5 is just a lot of food. The interior is clean, attractive, and well maintained. Service was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Would I come back? Definitely if I'm in the neighborhood. read more
