The main central loop is considered "easy and nearly level." All lies and I was on foot! After stumbling over tree roots and trudging through dead leaves & mud I soon realized, I don't like hiking. I like nature walks! Pretty, paved, moderate, you get my drift. That being said, Jackrabbit Mountain Trails are lovely! Parking is free. There are pit toilets, maps & information, air pumps & tools. There's a hose to rinse off and a grassy field with picnic tables & grills by the lake. The trail was created for bikers in so I walked alone as they politely zoomed past. The trails are well-worn so you won't get lost and there are colored stickers on the trees every mile or so. There are no benches to stop and rest. But there are educational signs on trees and plants. I met the sassy 'Sassafrass,' the 'Oriental Bittersweet Plant' (which really needs to stop threatening the others), and the beautiful, slow growing, long lived 'White Oak' which can reach 135 feet! Because it was Fall, I couldn't take my eyes off of the trees. I've never seen such brilliant colors! The beautiful golden yellows, bronze and burnt orange leaves were really breathtaking. Then I saw the peaceful, still waters of Lake Chatuge and fell in love! Of course a loud boat sped past and messed up all that tranquility but it was still worth it. I'll return and I'll bring my bike!

This is not a ride for the weak unless you break it a lot with the pull up handles. You are striped tight into the seat. It goes fast and it Is over in about 2 to 3 minutes. YOU control the speed. The faster you chose you go the more g-forces you will feel. It does Not go upside down but just takes a lot of sharp turns which give the g-force feeling of about 4 G's. This ride is extremely safe. It has a lot of automated safety features such as automatic breaking if you get closer than 180 feet to the car in front of you. In the unlikely event the seat belt came loose it will automatically stop as well. So you are not going to be able to do something unsafe or stupid on this ride. There are cameras that monitors the riders as well as workers posted in look-out booths along the route. I would do this ride and not the "sled ride" that had the concrete pad. This ride is very smooth. I rode it full speed with my braking handles fully released so that it would roll as fast as possible and it was so much fun.

There's a weight limit of 300lb per car and if you want to ride with someone they have you and that person stand on a weight to see if you can or not. They don't want you flying off the mountain after all. Hubby and I had to ride separately (oh noes!) but it was fine. You have control over how fast you go so you can slow down on curves if you choose to. I slowed down on a quite a few (and hubby said he did, too). I would totally ride it again. It was so much fun.

This was our 3rd time visiting the park and renting a machine as we had a great experience the first 2 outings. In addition to the $800 rental fee they put a 5k deposit hold on your card when you rent the machines. This occasion, the machines were brand new (which I did not request). It had rained the night before and the trails were poorly marked with deep water ruts yet we still managed to avoid any collisions or damage. Fast forward a week later and I received an invoice from a Jim Smith from Iron Mountain Resort (who does not work for the company) for $1,018.91 for New Decals and some light painting. After receiving no answers to questions posed in 3 emails I called only to find that there is not Jim Smith with the company but was assured by nice lady that she would look into it and get back to me. Still no response a week later and called back whereby I spoke with a gentlemen who was unwilling to make any concessions and threatened "if you ruin my business I will ruin yours." Here's a thought...If you run an off-road rental business at an off-road park you might want to consider letting people know the $ risks of renting new machines vs used ones. Charging people over 1k for what would seemingly be normal wear and tear and putting a fake name on the email suggests you know exactly what you are doing and it's sketchy as hell.

His customer service was amazing. He made the entire experience fun from start to finish. We laughed the whole way down the river, learned so many interesting facts about the area, and always felt safe.
