If you're looking for a fun time, with neighbors. Not the place. No one hanging out at night. And got told to keep voices down. Lots are small. Had a nice site...but no sewer hook up. The wifi is only available near office and pool, very near. The rest of the campground is dark and no cell service either. Thats in itself is a deal breaker for us because even the amplified antenna on our roof had poor reception which is odd for seacoast. We like to stay connected to the net and or tv at night after the days activities and that was not happening there. We decided to cancel next months trip to this place only to find out that even 30 days ahead our cancelation cost us $65 which is not good at all.....read the fine print. Lesson learned. read more

I don't know why this campground has such bad Yelp reviews. It was honestly a great first experience camping by myself! The office was super organized, friendly & efficient. My site was spacious and well maintained - it was also right next to the bathrooms. My only complaint is that they don't do online bookings... you either have to call, email, or fill out an inquiry form and they'll reach out to you within 48 hours. read more

Overall my 12 year old son and I had a very pleasant experience at Pines Camping Area. We were put at campsite 30 which from my experience at other campgrounds was huge! I couldn't believe the large area we had all to ourselves. There was one party across the road from us but they were quiet, otherwise we were down a small dead end with nobody else on it. The residential campers were very friendly, everyone waves as you drive by and one next to us even recommended the best spot to pitch our tent in the event of rain. The bathrooms and showers were very clean for a campground and we had one in walking distance which was nice. The pool was awesome, very large and clean, my son loved it. Staff (who I think may be the owners) were very nice. Check in was pleasant, the camp store was stocked with little extras you may have forgotten. My son was in the pool a little late one night (8:30) but when the man came to clean it for the day he wasn't bothered and told my son it was time to close up but that he could stay in for a few more minutes while he set up the vacuum. I see negative reviews and it seems like you need to stay here during the week and maybe it gets rowdy during weekends(?) because we stayed here Monday-Thursday in July and had no issues with other campers being loud or any other obnoxious behavior referenced in other reviews. read more

We loved the camp it was rustuc and bathrooms were clean, however we had some issues. No one was wearing masks around camp, the kids were all unsupervised, maskless and older kids swearing in front of younger kids. But most especially the group across from us of about 12 were up until 4am. The guy in the golf cart (who was also not wearing a mask) came around 3 times and they still carried on. Shockingly they started chopping wood at 3am. They picked it right back up at 7am with no slowing down. As a family campground they should be more diligent with the playground monitoring, making sure sites are quieted down late at night but most importantly enforcing the mask rule. We left Saturday night even though we were supposed to stay until Monday. I didn't even care about losing the $10 key deposit or the unused night. We slipped the key between the office doors and left. So disappointing as we were really looking forward to a low key and safe Fourth of July weekend. One more thing, the seasonal sites definitely rule the place and they were hopping from site to site visiting their neighbors with no fear of social distancing or wearing masks. Maybe Salisbury is immune to COVID-19 but we weren't taking that chance. read more

Constant construction noises!! Weekend seasonals put off in beginning of season. Now we have to hear it?? I come here to avoid this!!

We're a couple in our late 20's with a tent! We booked a few days beforehand and got site 44. When we arrived, the check-in was easy, the store was cute with necessities. Firewood was $6 bucks a bundle or 2 for 10, and it burns fast, we went thru 4 bundles in one overnight visit. You have to be let in thru a gate to access the rest of the grounds. I asked for a wooded, quiet area and feel like I received the complete opposite, but understand it was a great weather weekend and they were probably already mostly booked. The site was just a little more then the length of our SUV in depth, which was NOT my ideal situation, and also pretty much sharing just that open graveled side area of a dirt road with people very close on either side, no trees keeping them more secluded from each other. Everyone used their car/trucks as a wall between the sites. Site 44 is very tiny, and we had to cram our little 2 person tent, table and firepit in a small space. Behind us was a woods/ditch of sorts with poison ivy, garbage and according to my boyfriend, smelled like urine. Just lovely! Also whenever a car drives by...you, your vehicle, tent and table will be covered with a fine layer of dust, thats how close it is to the dirt road. But once we got over the size/look of our site, we did have a nice time(we can make the best of just about anything). Besides the wooded area ditch behind us, the place feels pretty well maintained. Only one bug bite, score! The bathrooms were fine, free showers. This is a dog friendly location, and people seem to coop their poor animals up in their trailers and leave for the day, so they bark until they can bark no longer. Our water spigot was broken but our neighbors were nice and let us use theirs. The hours don't seem enforced at all, I went stumbling in the dark around 1am to the restrooms, and there was still a fire going full strength and 20 or so people hanging out around it just 4 or 5 sites down from us. Our neighbors used a sound machine all night(which baffles me) with piano music, and a lot of people played music and radios rather loudly. Personally, we go camping for the atmosphere and quietness, so that takes a bit away from it. All in all, my opinion is the sites in the 40s suck, but when driving around, a lot of the other sites looked better,deeper and more private. I would probably return, just as long as I could pick a better location in the grounds, but I will be sure to book far in advance. read more

f you are looking for 5 Star Luxury camping... Please do the community a favor and do not spend your vacation at The Pines Camping Area in Salisbury MA. If however, you are looking for a safe, clean, well maintained campground run by a very accommodating family then welcome to The Pines Camping Area in Salisbury. A little about me, I have slept anywhere from the forest floor to 350.00 a night rooms. My husband and I camp in a tent and are far from "Glam'-pers". I was a little hesitant about staying here when I went to make the reservation and no one was available to answer the phone. I sent an e-mail asking if a tent site was available for that night 5-27-2015 thru 5-31-2015. I then proceeded to look up other local campgrounds as we had a situation at our home where we needed to vacate for a few days with little notice. Before I could locate the number of another establishment via goggle, (were talking fast), I received an e-mail from Cheryl informing us there was indeed availability. Just to come down after 2:00 and check in. Check in was super simple and I got to meet the newest addition to the campgrounds an adorable, spunky Mini Australian Shepard named Shorty. Really nice people. We actually after checking out decided to revisit from June 4th till June 11th. Technically tonight is our last night though my husband got called to work early for tomorrow so we have been breaking down and packing up. We arrived at the site 115A and to my excitement there was a platform for the tent. The site is well wooded with a nice rock wall bordering the area. Plenty of privacy though the one direct neighbor we had seemed very quiet anyhow. I have never had the luxury of a platform before so when I went to the office to ask exactly how one stakes down a tent to a platform I was feeling sort of silly. Cheryl however, was very helpful in helping me to solve this and even gave me a few cable ties to try. That would have worked awesome but we had the plywood platform, most others were boarded. I was able to get rope and tie it down super secure despite some nasty winds. The platform kept the condensation problem I tend to experience with my 17 year old tent in check, it also proved very helpful when the rains did come. The pool is heated nightly and it is not spa time warm, however it was refreshingly very swimmable. Given it was late May during a miserable spring following a nightmare winter it was great to go swim at an outside pool and not become hypothermic. The pool did get a few tree debris in it as the wind whipped but they were promptly taken care of and the pool is clean. All bathrooms were very well maintained and VERY clean. Some of the ones were a little out of date decor wise but beside a little fresh pollen dust these are spotless. We went to see if by chance the store had a cooler which they did not but again Cheryl accommodated us by giving us a mailing cooler which she had received and no longer needed. The owners and staff can easily be found upon the grounds and are always checking on things. The great thing is that no one is permitted to drive around in golf carts except staff. This means 1. it's quieter, 2. no dodging child drivers, 3. if you need to find staff when they are out and about, you can identify them quickly. The seasonal campers are friendly enough and for the most part the other campers were friendly and quiet. The weekends are louder I had no issues with any problem campers though if I did I would have felt comfortable bringing it to the attention of staff. The location is along the Marsh in Massachusetts... Bugs galore but amazing wildlife as well. We have seen wild turkeys coming down from the roost above us but 10 feet away. A fawn stopped by the site and hung out for a good 3 minutes 20 feet away plus the normal wildlife attendees you expect. I can't lie my husband and I enjoy reading places that have iffy reviews and finding out for ourselves what the place is like. So far we have discovered some of our favorite spots by going to places with horrific reviews as long as you read between the lines, you can usually tell a bad reviewer from a bad place. The Pines area campground is just another one o add to the list of places I am glad we were not deterred by previous reviews. I can see how a few of the sites could be considered small but they are few and far between. The complaints I have read about the seasonal camp sites are confusing. I have always seen seasonal camp sites with porches and build ons. This is not unusual at least not for this region. As far as privacy is concerned, most of the sites have beyond enough space between you and your neighbors. Unless your camping in the wilderness you are bound to have people around you and that is a part of camping.The bundles of wood are standard camp fare at standard prices. Seriously the owners went above and beyond to be accommodating. read more

This place is awesome, I have not a single complaint. It seems as if a lot of the other reviewers are not keen to campground standards and had quite high/obscure expectations. Cheryl was prompt with email correspondence, getting us checked in and putting us in a spot that fit out specifications. She even got my dead car battery jumped the next morning, no problem. The general store had an array of normal camping necessities and snacks. The facilities were very clean, and very very well maintained/up to date . The seasonal 'campers' or those who obviously lived there year around did not stand out or take away from the camping experience whatsoever. read more

Mary We stayed here on a visit to Boston. On a positive note, the campground is close to the Boston commuter train station. However we found it dark, dingy, and confining due to the heavy tree cover and dusty roads. There is no WiFi and impossible to pull in satellite TV. The campground needs major updating and cleaning. I can't recommend this campground except for a one night stay. But be careful, the office doesn't open on Fridays until 10:00, and most days until 9:00, so if you're pulling out early morning you can't get your $10.00 gate card refund. read more

Would not recommend! I was hoping to take my family for a relaxing long weekend vacation, and instead found myself at an all night rave, nearly blasted deaf by the high-volume dance music. This was a terrible camping experience for me, and I will not be returning to this camp for many reasons. First of all, the staff seems bored with everything and their camp store service is extremely slow. Second, my money was taken from false advertising of camp store prices and paid more than I had to due to a basket marked 75 cents that I paid $1.25 for. Third, everyone at the camp is shady and nosy overall. Fourth, their arcade games are RIGGED and IMPOSSIBLE to win, no matter HOW many times you try them. My fifth reason should be a HUGE red flag for campers, especially families. I saw COCKROACHES at this camp. Yes, cockroaches, as in the kind NO ONE wants in their RVs or tents. These pests can carry diseases to infect anyone who comes into contact with them. Sixth, they are in such a strange location, down a road of residence and hidden. Seventh, they only have one entrance/ exit, causing traffic on the road. Eighth, anyone could just walk into the camp with drugs or weapons and no one would notice, as you NEVER see staff riding around on golf carts or patrolling the gate in, which anyone can walk around. Ninth, there was broken glass in my site, which shows lack of effort in preparation of the sites after people leave. Tenth, there is only ONE dumping station, causing traffic in RVs both coming and going, and lastly, we were put on a site that was basically 2' away from a road, and we tried not to have our dog RUN over. My wife and I stayed at the Pines campground for a few nights. It was late May which is early for camping. We found the campground owners attentive to the surroundings and responsive to our requests. Our stay was enjoyable with the exception the campground appears to be surrounded by marshland and a high water table that encourages the misquito population. We did like the shade we had from the tree as opposed to being in an open field at Salisbury Beach campground. The weird aspect of the campground is the seasonal campers in their array of makeshift sites. Some sites had older RV's or trailers surrounded by makeshift wooden structures. Many of these sites were in disarray with a light green mold covering the structures. Looking at the the many makeshift summer homes brought visions of some post apocalyptic village. read more

We have a 34 foot fifth wheel and made our reservation accordingly. It was our 1st time at this campground, we were staying just two nights (as it turned out, we were so glad). Check in at the updated office was quick and the woman seemed pleasant enough. I was not happy when my husband later told me that she charged him an additional fee ($5 a day) for my car (I followed the camper in), I have never heard such a thing. As we were driving in, we thought that it looked very sketchy. What appeared to be seasonal sites were very old, run down, dirty campers, unkept sites with old decks and all around unappealing items all over the place. They put us on a site, that we thought was actually a road. The person who worked there actually put up a wooden saw horse after our camper was in, apparently so no cars would try to drive through!! As my husband was setting up, he realized the power to our site was not working! The campground staff was still there and was "surprised" that it was not working! She suggested that we jump off of our neighbors, who was outside watching all of this - and quickly declined that idea, since his air conditioning kept shorting out his power! I don't blame him! So her solution was then for US to go to the RV store and BUY a long cord to reach the next available power supply!!! I couldn't believe it!! I could go on but I think you get the picture after reading other reviews. I wish I had read them before booking. Long story short - I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, nor would I ever step foot inside that park again! Definitely not in our league. read more

Picked a great weekend (8-19 & 20) to visit friends back at the Pines Campground. "Halloween in August" Cheryl had a fun filled weekend for the adults and kids. Texas Hold-Em Friday for the adults. Saturday for the kids Arts & Crafts, Candy Bar Bingo and games in the playground area and pool games followed by the kids going Trick or Treating. Enjoyed watching all the kids take part in the games a lot of laughs. Great job Cheryl. Everyone got to vote on the Pumpkins and Scarecrows made by campers. The evening ended with a campfire for the kids. Then Sunday it was time to say good bye and back home. I would recommend the Pines Campground to anyone who is looking for a family campground. Anyone planning on renting a site here do yourselves a favor and look somewhere else! The owner and the wife are both miserable people, they don't greet you in a friendly manner when you arrive and then they will find any little excuse to kick you off the property just to keep your money. BE WARE!!!!! There are much better camping sites than The Pines do your homework so that your vacation doesn't get ruined by money hungry people like the owners of the Pines. My site was small and cramped definetly not worth $140 dollars for the weekend. I was only there for 6 Hrs. before he started picking on us and harrassing my family. I hear his temper and ignorance along with wife is getting worse as the years go by!! Spend your money else where. read more

We stayed here two nights in a tent-spot. Nice management but otherwise an unpleasant experience. The whole campground smelled like a porta-potty. I was up all night because the campers next door encroached on our spot and snored so loudly I thought they were in my tent. Lots of drinking, people left their sites full of uncovered food overnight. There was toilet paper in the woods surrounding the campsite and we found ourselves running from the tent to the car in both the evening and morning because of the mosquitos. I found a large roach in both shower stalls. It was noisy until about 2am on the weekend, thought the weeknight was quiet. This is more like a permanent trailer-park than a campground. I would never stay here again. read more

We found ourselves at this campground this weekend because the state park wasn't open yet and we were itching to camp somewhere near the ocean. Family-owned business. Good customer service. We stayed at a tent-only site which was clean and quiet but it is by no means peak season yet. Only bathhouse open was at the main office which required a drive. There were a lot of mosquitoes, which I feel will only get worse as summer comes because the campground is surrounded by swampland. Ocean is 5 min drive away from campground. Price was steep ($52 for 4 of us to tent camp), but I guess I'm used to state park prices. read more

Just returned from our first trip to this campground. First impressions are important and driving past some of the seasonal sites made one think of a shantytown. I am amazed that the owners do not enforce a rule that you cannot turn your site into what amounts to a junkyard. My guess is that many of these people have been here for many years but there is no excuse for creating a virtual slum on your site. The garbage bins should be moved to a less conspicuous location. They get smelly and placing them right by the entrance/exit is not appealing. Be aware that there are only a few sites with full hookups and there is no cable TV. The internet is available at the store but is not extended to the entire campsite. The closest bathhouse for us was by the pool and it needed updating. They also charge 25c for 3 min. to shower which is an anomaly in today's market. On a positive note check-in/out was easy, the staff was courteous, and many of the sites are very large - two to three times the size of sites at other campgrounds we have visited. Finally, the rules clearly state that there are quiet hours and they are strictly enforced. It was very quiet the first four nights but on Sun. night a group had a very loud party that continued until almost 1 am. After not getting much sleep we left Mon. morning - a day ahead of schedule. This was my first visit to this area and Newburyport and the coast is nice but, if we return, we will check out other area campgrounds. read more

Stayed at the The Pines for a few days after spending years at Rusniks (that place needs work). It was for the most part very nice. The 2 people that we dealt with in the office weren't overly friendly but were at least courteous and that is all they really needed to be. I agree with one of the other reviews that some of the seasonals that you drive by on the way in makes you wonder if you picked the wrong camping area! The campground itself was clean with large and level sites. They did a good job keeping the 2 restrooms clean, they were not spotless, but hey you are at a campground, not the Marriot! Campgound was louder during the early evening, we were nearer the horsehoe pits but it was nice and quiet by evening. I look forward to staying there again next season. read more

Our family has been going to the pines for years. We enjoy it every year! Bill & Cheryl make adults and kids have fun throughout the summer. Lauren is very nice as is Carlene and Dana. Our children love the pines. The pool is clean and well kept. They do special holidays throughout the summer (Halloween trick or treating for the kids, Christmas in July and hay rides. They also offer fun adult time with music under the pavilion, bingo, adult swim & Father's Day breakfast. We really enjoy the pines every year! The bathrooms are always clean. My family is heading south at the end of summer. And we all will miss the pines. read more

we are a family of 4 and we are seasonal at the pines. we love it their. the activities are great for the kids on the weekends the kids look forward to it . and i will say the biggest thing for me is my son is 3 and he wanted to go play the playground games with his older sister i went up to supervise and their were abour 30 kids up their doing organized games and when it came to my 3 year olds turn he was not pushed out because he was oe one the little kids they were very accepting of him and gave him his turn with no issues all of the older kids came closer so he could through the ball to them . everyone is included in the activities :) i feel very safe with my kids i let them go to the playground and am within yelling distance it is a gated campground with security at night the golf cart. just making sure everything is order. summer 2011 we became sesonal and love it 7 min drive to the beach everymorning we wake up we go dwn to the beach for awalk with the family over all the grounds are kept clean and the bathrooms are as well never any issues except when to be expected on super busy holiday weekends in the evening after everyone has been in them all day. but i will say next morning 7 am they are spotless and clean smelling. i plan on bringing my kids here for a long time to come. good camp ground and atmosphere. great to create the kinds of memories i want for my kids child hood. never had any issues here :) read more

Our family of 5 camped here in July 2013 and did not enjoy the experience. It began with the unfriendly atmosphere during registration. There is a long list of rules and they are delivered in a very negative manner. Most campgrounds have the same list, but the delivery is so much more positive and friendly. The campground is surrounded by swamp so the mosquitos are everywhere. The showers cost 25 cents for 3 minutes and it takes 30 seconds to get hot water. Wifi connection is only available at the registration office. The location is lovely, so we spend most of our time out of the campground and returned only to sleep. We will return to the area, but not this campground. The atmosphere was very unwelcoming. read more

I just returned from this campground today.. and I had to pick a star , should be a zero there. we reserved a site, they gave us 44, was almost funny, dont think it was really a site more or less on the side of there road, my choice was put the tent up or park the car , so went to office they gave us another site 45, ok was almost as bad but at least I could park the car. things went down hill from there, There bathrooms, every time we used them were a mess. the campers were older and not kept up at all , most were falling apart, the sites were a mess and nasty. the partying soon started, almost every camper on that road, and it went on til at least 3am.. dogs were loose barking most of that time,we knew it was a bad sign when we entered the gate and noticed a very bad odor, we realized they had some sort of animals horses , pigs what ever behind that fence. we waited to see if sucurity would come by and quiet them all down, didnt see it happen. It had rained that night , and we wanted to dry the tent out, otherwise we would of left early that morning and ate the cost of camping plus the extra $15.00 they charges because we wanted to get in a little earlier. That day we decided to stay as we were just to tired to pack up, and ofcourse the partying started and continued to early hrs. of the morning, again. the people partying behind us dumped something into there fire which made it huge, I really thought we would be calling the fire dept now!!! I know You are not suppose to bring fire wood in, as they make it very clear, that to was a joke! As I was spending $6.00 on there wood I watched people bring it in trailers.. stacking it up throwing it wereever on there site, looking around everyone had plenty of stock for there fire wood, and it certainly didnt look like it came from the store for $6.00 a bundle! So much for state Laws ... The following morning we couldnt waite to get the hell out, packed and ready to go at 7am. But realized the store wasnt opened to return my gate pass that I gave $10.00 for, so we waited to 9am.. At that time I was not going to give them anymore of my money. when I complained to both the man and woman in the store on how bad things were, they both looked down and NEVER said a word, I couldnt believe people could be that Rude ., So Im guessing that they hear my nitemere story alot! I will say after looking around they have a few nice sites with campers who keep it up and clean, So if anyone decides to try this so called campground, STAY off of Main st. and the 40 sites!!! Now I know why we always camp at Salisbury resv. I can honestly say after being a camper for over 30yrs, this campground was the worst!!!! I hope they enjoy the $91.00 dollars that it cost me for just 2 of us, Because I am not that foolish to ever go there again. And like the old saying goes Rules are made to be broken.. read more

Horrible camping experience! When we arrived, they tried to send us to the dreaded site 44 which was little more than a parking spot. The couple camping in site 45 looked at us when we pulled up and I know they were hoping we didn't stay there cause we would have been right in their front door and have no privacy. We asked to be moved and ended up on "Main St" at another site which was roomy but literally right on the road. So, when cars went in and out throughout the night, their lights are shining in your tent. Night #1 we got little sleep due to what sounded like people breaking beer bottles and loud music. Night #2 again got no sleep whatsoever due to the folks right beside us talking loudly, laughing, and screaming across the campground at each other with no regard for others sleeping. Both nights this went on until 4 a.m. Management won't do anything about this due to these folks are their regulars that stay virtually all summer and are afraid to say anything due to losing their business. To top it all off, we were warned while there about theives in the campground, and sure enough, we ended up having something stolen that wasn't even left out in the open. So, these theives are not above going in tents, campers, or cars to steal. RUN DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! read more

Dirty littered unkept site. Careless staff. Booked two nights sight unseen in summer for a weekend get away, because State campground in Salisbury was full. They gave us a tiny downhill site, gully washed out from rain and surrounded by swamp. We thought it was a joke, no one could think of this as a real site.We just barely fit a two man tent on the only flat area ( 6x6 foot). The table actually leaned downhill and the fire pit at the bottom of this washout was filled with debris. The woman in the office was disinterested with our complaints and refused to move us, stating it was the only site. We decided to try make the best of it. We didn't even have a fire and went out to eat instead. Salisbury was a terrible disappointment. The beach is nice enough, but the area is rundown, smells of burnt oil and sewer, and police cars fly around with sirens every 10 minutes. We gave up, fleeing for Portsmouth the next morning. Our request for a refund was refused. Somehow I doubt others were in line for this rip off site. Do not fall for this place. The side of the marsh would be more pleasant. read more
