Art, music and more. Had the opportunity to attend "Salt Lick Sessions" at the Umbrella Arts Center…read morein Concord. The venue is intimate, seating is comfortable, acoustics are first class. Peruse a visual art show on the lobby before entering the auditorium. The evening was capped off by three outstanding musical artists who performed their hearts out: Olivia Barton brought her melodic voice and guitar, and crooned the audience with folksy songs about everyday life such as simply making the rent. Carter Benjamin energized the audience with his 3-piece rock group that evoked funkaledic influences of REM. Last but not least, Kiernan Rhodes serenaded us on the piano, with songs of youth and family, in a style and energy reminiscent of Billy Joel meets Hollywood. The talented musical trio capped off the evening by uniting in an unexpected encore, covering James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend."

My higher grade is more for the art center itself rather than the performances. The facilities look clean and orderly, including the bathrooms and artist studios. I liked seeing all pottery made by the various artists. I also enjoyed the theater itself. While the seating itself isn't all that special, the acoustics are quality. If you expect something significantly higher than community theater here, you may be disappointed. While the performances were fine, they're not really all that polished and feel rather barebones (two actors playing one role in a production was rather strange). If you want a more grander theater experience but without going into Boston, consider Reagle in Waltham. (For all you Yelp police out there, yes, I paid $ here for tickets so I can review)

I was just reading some of Emily M's South Shore reviews and realized that I too, should review…read moreHolly Hill Farm. We love this place. First of all, it's right off Jerusalem Road in Cohasset which is only like the most beautiful street in the world. Never been? Do yourself a favor and get in your car now and take a drive! Anyway, back to the farm. They have a few horses and chickens and goats, oh my. They have lots and lots of walking/hiking trails and you can bring your dog (though I shouldn't have mentioned that because now I've given away one of my secrets of places where you can take your dog that not everyone knows about). It's a functional vegetable farm and you can stroll through the grounds and see everything growing (when in season). You can also purchase all kinds of fresh produce here like lettuce, spring onions, heirloom tomatoes (and heirloom tomato seeds and/or plants as Emily mentioned) etc. More often than not, no one is there and you just take what you want and leave your $, a la the honor system. This is the kind of place that makes you forget you're only like 20 miles from a major city and really, where else can you find a farm that is across the street from the Atlantic ocean?

My personal favorite is the asparagus --- must get it when it's in season! plus, i can never resist grabbing a bottle of honey. it is seriously liquid gold. everyone who works at the farm is so friendly and helpful, and the animals are awesome. love it here!
