We stayed at Wakeda for an extended weekend last week. Check-in was easy and social distancing was not an issue at all. The grounds appear well maintained and most of the sites seem to be seasonal renters. If you have a camper, you have to be careful, the roads are pretty narrow in places and there are large pine trees close to the sides of the roads. We arrived at our site and started getting the camper set-up. As we made the water and sewer connections on the camper, we noticed a foul smell. Turns out it was the water. Thankfully, we had a filter with us and it did the trick. We had bottled water to drink. After we were set-up, another camper pulled into a space that was perpendicular to ours. This camper was followed by two others and it turns out that they all knew each other. So, all weekend, we had 12 adults and 3 dogs right outside our door. They were loud enough that we could hear their conversation with the doors and windows closed and well past the "quiet" time beginning at 10 pm. Saturday night they had a blazing fire still going at midnight. The "rules" were completely ignored and no one from security ever came by. With 12 people and a total of 7 cars parked on the sites, it would've been pretty obvious that social distancing and their occupancy rules were being ignored. Although the location of the campground is great since it does allow easy access to locations in Maine and the NH seacoast, it is unlikely that we will ever stay there again. read more

So I would give this place 4 Stars if they had a place for the tent sights to wash dishes. (Maybe a 5 but it's rare for me to give 5 stars) My wife and I and some friends stayed for a long weekend, bathrooms were clean for the majority of the time obviously in the late night early mornings they were a little dirty but nothing too bad. Sights are a great size plenty of room to have a dog on a lead if wanted. Some of the campsites for camping have a grill great some don't idk if you have to request them or not 1 of the 3 sights we had had a great. Showers are metered and are set to a warm temperature. Very exited for our next trip up. read more

Our first campground in New Hampshire and it was nice, large, well maintained, quiet, secluded but conveniently located within reasonable distance of Hampton beach, Portsmouth, etc. it has laundry and a playground and mini golf and a store. I rarely take a long term weekly stay at any campground that doesn't accept even a basic aaa or good sam 10% discount for daily rates, let alone not offering passport america 50% off at least some of the time. However, they did have a weekly rate and off leash dog park available on Independence Day week. Mind you it was during covid times. On that note, they need to get over themselves with the SCAMdemic precautions. The state does not require them to make people wear the ridiculous masks but they do. All nonsense and annoying. That being said we enjoyed our stay and wouldn't mind staying again, but not unless they offer some larger discounts. read more

I used to tent camp here with my parents more than 20 years ago. Having returned now with my own family we will now be annual campers! The grounds, facilities, and camping cabins are wonderful! The bathrooms are cleaned no less than every 3 hours round the clock! The staff is friendly and hard working. We had an amazing vacation and will be back! read more

Read the rules before you commit to this place. We should've done so as they are strictly and unapologetically adhered to. Security came twice the first night we were there because we were playing music and talking "too loud". At midnight they came and threatened to call the police on us if we didn't go to bed. NOT KIDDING! The next morning the owner Terry came and reiterated the rules we broke the night before. From 7:10 pm until 10:30 Saturday night security came 4 times to remind us that quiet time is at 10:00 on and the campfire has to go out at midnight. Thoroughly chastised and humiliated we were in bed well before midnight. Our night and experience here was ruined anyway. On the plus side - quiet place read more

I took my 4 year old son here a few days ago for his first real camping trip. Overall we were very impressed. I chose Wakeda specifically because of their (no charge) early check in policy. The site we got was available for early check in and were told we could arrive as early as 8:30AM! I called the night before and a beautiful secluded site was chosen for me by the staff. (I didn't have a preference) Amenities include a centrally located Trading Post with an ice cream shop and a really cool looking mezzanine level with TV and games. Outside there is mini golf (5 bucks for me, no charge for my son), a little arcade with stand up machines, playground and a large connect 4 game. The map shows a coffee shop on the opposite side of the campground but we didn't make it that far. The playground looks old but very well maintained. There is a super tall tube slide, suspension bridge, see saws, kiddie swings and a classic roundabout. Wakeda is adorable, family owned, dog friendly, great for kids and very clean. We are definitely looking forward to going back. On the way, about 10 minutes from Wakeda there is Walmart, Market Basket, 99, Starbucks and a ton of other stores and restaurants. read more

We've been coming here yearly for the past 5 years and look forward to it each time. It's one of the quietest campgrounds we've ever stayed at. There's everything from the children's playscape, mini-golfing, to open fields where you can play ball or fly a kite. Very safe for bike riding and being out and about. The only thing I can really think of that's missing is a pool, but hey, the beach is only a 15 minute ride away! Facilities are always clean and comfortable, but don't forget to bring your quarters for the showers! If your looking for peace and quiet with relaxing nights by the fire, this is the place for you! read more

We tented here this past weekend and it was great! If you like a quiet secluded private site request one of the tenting sites on the frog pond. It was quiet and the site was very well maintained plus it was huge and there was a ton of room to spread out. The restrooms were clean as can be, I had no complaints about the restrooms or any of the other camp facilities for that matter. The showers are coin operated and I only used one quarter per shower which is not a bad price for clean facilities and hot water! The trading post has anything and everything you forgot to pack and the people were very friendly! If you're looking for something to do take a short ride up to Portsmouth and see all of the little shops and restaurants - have a sandwich at the Portsmouth Brewery, you won't regret it - and if you're really into beer take the 7 mile ride up the road to the Smuttynose Brewery they have free tours and tastings! Relaxed, peaceful and quiet....but only minutes to Hampton Beach. The office staff is very helpful and friendly. Large lots, dog-friendly....a real gem. They also offer both trailer storage and a tow-on, tow-off service which is perfect for campers like us who are not particularly skilled at backing up. My family and 3 other families went camping there on the 4th of July weekend. This review is for the sites we used, there are others which seemed WAY better then ours. Pros: very few mosquitos. Cons: the ground was COVERED in pine needles and pine cones. Very understandable but when you have campers going to the sites and want to make a fire in a U shaped fire pit it's a challenge. WE had to clean around it because the fire was spreading. It's like going to a hotel room and you have to change the sheets of your own bed!! Why should we clean it?!!! I think they should have set it up before we got there. Quarters to take a shower. With long hair $.50 will do. I have been to a couple of campgrounds and sure didn't have to pay for my shower!!!! And I would definitely not mind it at all if the shower came out running strong which was not!!!! In a 90° weather it was too hot for the kids to play in the playground with no shade. Mini golf we had to pay for it! Ice cream social we had to pay for it! There is a better campground in the area with a pool and a lot of activities FOR FREE. I wanted to try a new campground hence Wakeda! Will not go back! read more

Beautiful campground- super clean!! Staff is friendly and accommodating. The place is enormous but you don't feel like it is. Tons of tress allow for lots of shade. Can't wait to come back. It does cost .25 for a 10 min shower - the showers are clean but can get steamy hot with no ventilation. read more

Great campground very well maintained. Mostly full-time set ups, but lots of spaces for travelers. We stayed in our 40' motorhome in one of the pull-through sites and really enjoyed our time there. Of course the week days are a little quieter than weekends. It was a little more difficult to walk the dogs on weekends due to vehicle traffic. This was the site of one of the best weekends of my life. Three friends and I stayed for a weekend in a camper the summer of 2012 and had an absolute blast! They were all a little timid about going on a camping trip and were worried it was going to be boring. Needless to say, they were as blown away as I was on my first trip to Wakeda with my family when I was a kid. The mini golf is a great way to spend time there, as is the arcade. The campsite was clean, spacious, and had a fire place and picnic bench, with friendly neighbors not too close and not too far away. We spent a day at nearby Hampton Beach, which is about a 20 minute drive, and had a great time there too. I just booked again for this summer with the same group, but for an entire week this time, because we were all severely disappointed the morning we had to pack up and go. We're all college students and don't make much money, so this was also a great find as far as cash goes. You definitely get all the perks of staying at an expensive campground for much less money. This place is also pet friendly and great for families.Overall, the best campground I've been to, and I've been to state parks and campgrounds all over New England! read more
