    Belanger & Son Plastering

    Belanger & Son Plastering

Unfortunately my experience with Belanger and Son plastering didn't match the online A ratings that…read morehad influenced my hiring decision. In late October of 2013 my home's stucco was in need of patching so I made the usual estimate rounds. Belanger and Son seemed like a very established company and Mike Belanger was among the contractors who checked out my home. Mike's recommendations included that the house be sandblasted prior to being stuccoed and also offered a painter for the trim. All were recommendations that I ultimately went with. The stucco product was described as top notch Omega brand ColorTek 426 Still Creek grey. Very pretty. When the 7k job was finished the house looked great. His guys are very good at what they do, Especially George who has 28 yrs. of experience and is quite the master plasterer. Yes a couple of post cleanup issues arose which I'll explain in the second half of my story. The following week (Nov 2013) I was outside admiring the west wall of my house and ran my hand over the stucco when.... ALL THE TEXTURE FLAKED OFF. I was stunned. I immediately emailed Mike who initially didn't believe me. His suggestion was for me to water the wall. I also contacted Omega Products representative Steve Taylor to see if this was normal for a brand touted as top quality. Anyway Mike eventually came over and determined that the stucco had dried too fast and agreed to redo the problem wall. Fast forward to June 2015. I walked outside to water the lawn when I noticed a large circular portion of stucco missing from the south side of the home. Reaction. OMG. Not again. So I called Mike for help and after a few forwarded pictures it was decided that along with the repair the house would get water sealer and also a fog coat to match up the stucco color. $850.00 total. One guy. One day to complete. Problem #1. One the day of the job I went to the gym and asked Mike's worker if he needed anything before leaving. He said no and off I went. Not so. Apparently he needed a bucket and went to into my garage to look for one. Result. The house alarm triggered and the police showed up. Two weeks later I received a $365.00 fine for the false alarm. Problem #2. Overspray on expensive pavers which weren't noticed until I swept the pavers along the walkway and doorstep. And not tiny specks of Still Creek grey either. We're talking droplets on the walkway and backyard bricks. Additionally, when wet, what appeared to be greyish footprints were visible on the doorstep. In late June I emailed Mike about the problem asking if he had anything that would remove the spots from my pavers and also suggesting that he brief his guys not to enter homes/garages when clients aren't home. No response. 10 days (July 3, 2015) later I sent Mike a text asking if I'd be getting a response to my email. He responded politely asking for a resend of the message. I think I asked for business card for a friend too but that's a different story. Mike's July 4th response to my email was that he was out of town for the holiday and would be starting a big job the following week oh and that he'd have to see if he could get time to help me out (help me out? did I cause the overspray?). He said that a stiff brush and some concrete cleaner should clean off the pavers but that I (yeah. me) should be careful not to hit the wall or we'd have another issue. The first inclination was to respond and ask Mike if I misinterpreted his suggestion that I the client clean up the overspray. Then I remembered what happened after the first job in 2013. After it was completed I noticed that the satellite cables were left hanging from the side of the house. When the topic was brought up guess what I was told? "Oh you can buy the clips at any hardware store". The overall impression I came away with from this expensive venture with Belanger and Son is that shoddy customer service can be expected if one is female, Hispanic or doesn't live in an upscale neighborhood. Then again, it could be with this company once the bill is paid there's no need for customer service. That said potential clients of Belanger and Son and may want to invest in a wire brush, concrete cleaner and cable clips before signing the contract.

Mike is a magician with Stucco! 'nuff said.read more
